ABOUT ME

My name is Ren. Besides watching dramas, I love writing, video editing, making digital art, and I'm learning Korean. Free thinker, controversial, and hard to pigeonhole, but people try anyway.

I took a break from Western TV and watched Hotel Del Luna in 2020 and three years later, the break hasn't ended. K-Dramas have helped me through some crazy times and I'm super protective of them. Some people say westernization isn't happening but I think in some cases, it absolutely is, and I'm not a fan. I hope there will always be K-dramas coming out that feel authentically Korean, like the ones that drew me to dramaland to begin with.

I also hated the constant, heavy-handed push of sexualization and objectification (especially of women) in Western TV and saw Korean dramas as a refuge from that. The fact that you could have a crazy strong, powerful, and sexy FL who doesn't strip naked at some point in the drama? Incredible. The fact that you could have two people with fire chemistry who were crazy in love and didn't rip each other's clothes off onscreen? Even more amazing. I don't care who's doing it, Hollywood or South Korea – pushing sexual content isn't something I will ever support. Especially if it's explicit, as I believe filming explicit content is compromising and dangerous to actors and completely unnecessary for viewers. Yes, sex is perfectly normal and natural, and is also sacred and private between two people. However, rest assured I will never try to force my convictions on anyone else.

No insta-love and no toxic romances. I love innocent romances and unlikely slow burn pairings the most. I'm obsessed with chaotic female leads. Only SLS when the writers mistakenly give all of the healthy, nontoxic character traits to the second lead (I try to avoid these dramas if possible). I rate dramas based mostly on my feelings but also on my opinions about quality. Check out my list of all-time favs if you like.

Music is life. I'll listen to any genre if the song touches my heart. Some of the K-Pop artists I like listening to are Gaho, DMEANOR, Taeyeon, GSoul, HYNN, Punch, Elaine, and BEN.
