A short, yet beautiful bildungsroman.
Middle School Girl A is an endearing movie about two people--facing struggles in life and feeling complete hopelessness--coming together and comforting each other through their struggles. This movie highlights issues ranging from bullying to domestic violence to suicidal tendencies. It showcases how two unlikely people can meet and become each others' beacons of light through their darkest moments.
Kim Hwan Hee portrayed Jang Mi Rae phenomenally. She completely captured the essence of an outcasted middle school girl's struggles. I couldn't help but sympathize and pity Mi Rae through every hardship she experienced; it so vividly reminds me of days where I felt in similar positions. My heart undividedly ached for her through the entirety of the movie. Kim Junmyeon // Suho did a fine job playing Jae Hee. It was convincing enough that I also felt for his character, but didn't stand out in any particular way.
The supporting cast played their roles decently as well. Jung Da Bin was very convincing in her mannerisms as Baek Hab. The rest of the students were alright, but it's clear they lack the experience of both Hwan Hee and Da Bin. One of the teachers played a more comedic role, and he was just over-the-top to where his character was humorous, but not too much to where he'd seem insincere.
The music, or often lack thereof, fit the movie's more realistic tone very well. As such, there weren't very memorable moments, but the directing created a befitting atmosphere throughout the entire movie.
Overall, it was a very refreshing watch. I love how the movie addressed real conflicts, and the final message hit close to home. Don't bottle up all of your feelings; it's okay to cry when you want to.

A masterpiece hidden within its title
I have never written a review on this platform before, but I had to share my thoughts on this masterpiece. I'm absolutely in love with the korean drama and movie scene and finding hidden gems is something that doesn't happen too often. However, this movie blew me away entirely. Not only is the storyline something so tender, but still relatable; the cast is also insanely good at conveying emotions way beyond their time. The music is lowkey but beautiful and the character building is something unseen in such a short time. I do not wish to spoil anything but I definitely recommend giving this a watch!Esta resenha foi útil para você?

I actually like that it doesn't have much background music, makes it feel more realistic and focus more on how the story goes. I don't think it's for everyone though since it's a bit slow paced. I didn't feel bored watching it but it's not the type of movie that leaves a big impression. Production is budgeted and it's understandable, it didn't need much cost anyway. I just wish that they omitted the game realm scenes if they're aiming for low budget. It makes the movie look like it's made by amateurs, like those movie made by students for school festivals wherein the staffs are also the actors & they need to rent out costumes. The scene about the giant saving Mi Rae is out of place too like it's a realistic movie and never was fantasy.
Overall for the acting I think it's the story and how it was directed that makes the actors look awkward and lacking. The acting was so-so for me. Even Hwan Hee and Da Bin who are both young but experienced actors didn't show pretty much of their acting skills here. Suho's acting here is okay. Some may argue that he didn't but he did pretty decent compared to that one drama of his. Some can't separate him from being an idol so I think it affects how they see him act. He's a great theatrical actor than a movie actor though.
The only thing that makes me give this a good rating is because I like the aspect wherein opposite gender with an age gap can have a platonic relationship. Also, doing a bucketlist and talking about funeral picture as if it's a casual thing to say is a bit dark but I like how they're preparing to end their lives but ended up saving each other. The movie is not memorable as a whole but I'll remember it as one of those that has a satisfying ending.

I'm so glad I did I found this to be a thoroughly refreshing piece. The story is good with the usual ingredients served up a novel enough way to keep you involved and guessing. The pacing is mellow and thoughtful but never had me hitting FF and I liked the fanciful twists. The darker edge had tears in my eyes and I was well satisfied with the ending.
The music was good enough to notice in a couple of places without detracting from the drama on screen. I liked the end credit song.
The acting on the whole was good especially the FL her love interest and the idol dude I found a little unsatisfying though.
I could see me watching this again though knowing the story would take something away from it.
