I made jokes about this one in the comments when I first read the synopsis. I was expecting to be force-fed some BS attraction between a young guy and a woman 14yrs older than him. After the first episode, I felt like I was dead on with my expectations, but kept watching since it was entertaining enough. It didn't take long for me to see that I was actually dead wrong.
This show was so well-executed that even the cliche parts came off as normal occurrence. You feel like this story is somehow familiar, like you know some people who have experienced the same regardless of how far-fetched that would be. What I love most is each hurdle is a real growing experience. Not just an "Oh, I messed up and apologized, now forgive immediately." There's depth in each situation.
The chemistry between all the characters is spectacular. Yes, I said all. Each person fits into their role snugly and works so well with anyone else that's on-screen with them. Enemies, friends, lovers, family... you'd think you were made privy to the lives of actual people, it all feels so natural.
Best part: Uhm Jung Hwa's acting. None of that typical stuff actresses do to mimic falling in love. She brings those real reactions that women usually can't prevent from doing and endearing qualities of an enamored woman to her character. All of this while still maintaining a strong no-nonsense personality. She portrayed a woman that can be an axe-grinder, and cutely fall in love without compromising her strength. She also is able to grow to learn from her lessons and change only what needs changing.
For me, this is the second best drama I've ever watched and I'm a harsh critic. I'd highly recommend it.

It seemed like the people behind this show caught a lucky break getting a second season and didn't quite know what to do. They just added on more fluff to what was already fluffed enough. In the first season, the meals Miwako and her Grandfather would have together were humorous because of how ridiculous they were in extravagance and formality for just two people. This season, it was overkill and made you only hope someone was enjoying all that food and it wasn't going to waste.
What you might have liked most about the first season was Miwako's contradicting cleverness and stupidity. I feel like this is what could have evolved the most, but it was the same ol' dried out routine. Nothing new, nothing even kicked up a notch. Biggest disappointment. I kept waiting for it each episode I watched, and it never showed up. The cases don't get better, either. We already know she's going to suggest solving everything in an overblown fashion with her money, but that becomes the focal point of the episode and takes away from any really difficulty in figuring out things. All the answers come so easy. I know who the culprit is already in the first quarter of the episode. In the first season, at least she actually was solving cases that required some real deciphering of clues.
The worst part was that the last two episode were exactly the same scenario as episodes from the first season, just swapped out characters and changed the situations a little. I kept saying to the screen, "You gotta be kidding me!!!!" Now, that's just sheer laziness and/or lack of creativity. We've run out of ideas, so let's use the same ones we've used already. Like no one would notice with how blatant it was. I havie a saying that applies here, "You must really think me a fool to make your lies so transparent."
If you're in this just to see all the luxury and how much junk Miwako can fit on her nails, then give it your 10 hours. If not, I say don't waste your time.

The whole concept of 'contract dating' is quite commonplace in Korean drama, nevertheless I still enjoy watching hate turn to love. Usually these story lines can become repetitive but the writers managed not to make that the sole focus of the drama, managing to weave in a comedy, drama and romance. For me the highlight of this drama would have to be the comedy.
I have to say that the main leads Yun Woo-Jin & Han Groo had an amazing chemistry from the very beginning and both actors suited theirs characters managing to portray them well. Also the acting of both the male and female second leads was very well done and the writers made the smart choice not to ruin them. This drama was filled with potentially irritating characters however the story arcs given and the actors playing them made them lovable.
The music suited the drama but for me there was nothing that really struck me as amazing.

acting;
This is the first time i've seen Han Groo and Yun Woo Jin in a drama so I had zero expectations for them. Overall their chemistry was good and they were quite a refreshing couple. The only complains I have as far as acting are the idols. Sun Hwa's acting needs a lot of improvement and Jin Woon didn't do much other than smile. The latter might be the writer's fault, after all he's shown his acting skills before and they could have done a lot more with him and his character. Lastly Yoon So Hee ( apparently the viki community isn't too fond of her or her character ) and Heo Jeong Min. They didn't steal the spotlight from the main couple but, in my opinion, complimented the drama. Heo Jong Min also added comedy when we really needed it.
music;
Not much to say here. It had a fun soundtrack, lively and easy to sing along to but not very memorable. It fit the mood of the drama perfectly as well.
overall;
Overall this is a drama I will miss. It was fun and exiting with very real characters. I'll definetly be re watching this in the next few months.

As for the acting, I knew all of them from other dramas and honestly loved the most of them and respected them as actors. Although you could see that in this drama they were young and for many of them it was a beginning into the world of famous people and the whole Korean cinematography, also you could see after the watching this drama that they were fantastic. Literally. All of them. I mean, they are idol boys, they are models, I was fascinated that in only one drama I get to see the guys who were tall, all of them and all of them were, well and still are, pretty much a great looking young men. And despite that they deliberated us amazing performance of the all characters and showed us that they know how to play and act. If I have to pick my favourite character, well that would be Choi Chi Hoon- he was the smartest one no doubt, always with a cool head and cold thinking but very good friend, he was brilliant and also Sung Joon is my favourite amongst them, I just adore that actor. Of course Kang Mi Reu was my second one favourite, he was a true hero and a bad ass man! As for the rest of the characters, everyone was great and had their own role and purpose, everyone was important equally.
Twisted, dark, psycho, mystery, thriller drama with a perfect cast and the story about young people with many problems in their minds who were in some hand abandoned by the others and put in the biggest psychological test with a serial killer crazy man. Oh, I loved this show so much, I just feel empty now. ;-)
The only part I find a little bit predictable is that you can easily see after the episode 4 who were the main culprits and the part about that 7 strong men couldn't bring down one man with a gun. But it was well done after that so that little mistake wasn't important in the end.
And about the end, definitely THE MOST MEMORABLE ENDING EVER, it became my favourite ending part in some drama, I was so thrilled and satisfied in the end and for sure the ending scene had a big part in it why this show has such a high score, no doubt that it wouldn't be the same without that perfect end.
I will stop now and go to listen the whole ost and all of the songs in this show which is with a reason one of the strongest, greatly done dramas ever in the history of dramas. They should really make more dramas like this one, it's a pity for the rest of us who truly enjoy more in this kind of plot and story.

Drama effectively portrays the complicated relationship between family members. A person trying to show their love to one party can be taken as additional and unwelcomed pressure from the other party, who would feel not good enough for attaining what is expected of them. It's never black and white between family members. Its always love and resentment, co-existing. Sometimes they over do-it, a particular character I felt like beating up half the time, while the other half I felt bad for her.
Even so the drama did manage to keep us in suspense. Half way through the drama, the suspects get narrowed down but another mystery gets revealed, and keeps you wondering what the truth is.
No complaint in the acting department. Actually there are some young talent to look out for. Some actors we usually see in secondary roles are put under the spot light which was nice.
As for the music, I loved the ending theme song, it was upbeat soundtrack added to the last scene of each episode, encouraging you to watch more.
I didn't start watchign this drama for a particular actor so what kept me going and enjoying this is the story, executiong and talent. It has a nice balance in many themes like family, love, friendship, mystery, crime.

plot: while the story line and plot were really good and unique, I found it to drag on for a long time in the beginning. The first 12 episodes was really just about the two main leads whining about not being together and then even when they were together they were still whining about other things. The length of this drama definitely should have been shorter say around 14 or 16 episodes.
characters/actors: the acting was really good but I found them lacking in character depth. The main female lead for example didn't really seem to have much of a personality which I was disappointed in. all the characters showed great chemistry however and the two main leads were excellent in depicting two star struck lovers.
music: The music was okay, nothing outstanding but it wasn't too terrible though
overall it was an okay drama, not something I'd rewatch but there were some things in it that were worth watching.

Story - The story line is good. Watching the end of an episode then backtracking towards the beginning might take awhile to get used to. I do like the way the story moved. Not too fast and the end wasn't rushed either. The beginning made me cringe a bit but I got to hand it to the writers. They made me ride the emotional rollercoaster in each episode. One minute I'm laughing, then I'm crying then mad then there's an "awww" moment. I tell you, anyone who was in the same room as me would have probably thought I had lost my mind. But it was a great ride. Great kissing scenes too. There was chemistry between the leads. Has one of my favorite kisses of all time.
Acting/Cast - I don't think I've ever seen the younger cast except for the girl Yoon So Hee. I believe this was the first time I've watched Yun Woo Jin, Han Groo, Jin Woon, Han Sun Hwa and Heo Jeong Min and they just all played their part so well.
Yun Woo Jin who plays Gong Ki Tae was so adorable and he just made the list of leading men I want for my own. I just love him.
Han Groo who plays Joo Jang Mi, she was just no matter what kind of crazy stunt she pulls, her heart was in the right place.
Jin Woon who plays Han Yeo Reum, was such a cutie pie. And in episode 9? Thank you, I'm dead.
Han Sun Hwa who plays Kang Se Ah is my bias in the girl group Secret. She played her part so well, I almost took her off my bias list XD.
Heo Jeong Min who plays Lee Hoon Dong. Hated him in the beginning but he kinda grew on me.
Yoon So Hee who plays Nam Hyun Hee. I watched her in Let's Eat and she was ok there. Here she was annoying most times.
A lot of the characters were developed so well that even if you hated them in the beginning, you end up liking them later.
Most of the time in k-dramas, there's at least one set of parents you hate. But in this one, I only hated one. And before I close this part, I just want to say, I love halmeoni. :).
Music - The songs are great. I had the song "Love Lane" by Mamamoo stuck in my head so many times. But now that the drama is over, I have "One Day" by Ho Young Son & Danny Ahn stuck on replay. Harumaaaaaaaaaannn...
Rewatch Value: Most definitely. I love the emotional rollercoaster ride this drama has given me.
Overall: 10 out of 10. Actually it's an 11. I love this drama.

The story like I mentioned earlier is definitely not new. I've seen it quite a few times now. You basically know the story inside out even before you begin watching the show. Why watch this show then? Because it's a got a freshness that you will find rejuvenating. Granted, there are no major twists that you should be anticipating. What makes this drama good is the way the plot has been executed. You can think of it as a traditional dish that has been made with the same ingredients but has a different flavor. I hope I made sense there.
As far as the acting is concerned, I won't say I'm thoroughly impressed with the whole cast. Some performances did stand out. Yun Woo Jin surprised me the most and stood out far more than anyone else. The main reason for that could be that since I'd only seen him in a dark and gloomy role as a second lead, it was an eyebrow-raising and praiseworthy performance by him as the multi-faceted Gong Gi Tae. My thoughts about Han Groo are stuck in the grey area between like and dislike. In some of the scenes she did a brilliant job with her character, whereas in others it felt a little over the top. But I guess it's all a part of the package. There wasn't any actor/actress that I found unfit for their role. Just that nobody really stood out other than Yun Woo Jin. No negative marks here.
The music in this show was quite good. Quirky, peppy tracks are sprinkled throughout most of the episodes, and a couple of sad tracks dot the story here and there. I'd say the peppy tracks were pretty decent and easy on the ears. The mellow ones, though nice, didn't really leave an impact. Not really complaining.
Even though I enjoyed the drama very much, and looked forward to the next episodes, I'm in two minds about watching it again. Maybe that's because I just finished watching it. But either way, I wouldn't put it off the ReWatch list just yet. Maybe in a few months or an year or two perhaps. Although, I should mention it HAS got quite a bit of cute romantics scenes and real kisses you feel in your toes.
Overall, it was a good experience. I don't think I wasted any of my time with the show, that's a really good thing if you take into account that it basically took 16+ hours of my life to get to the show's end. And if I'm being honest, I think I really will miss the lead pair a little bit. They are those sort of characters, ones that grow on you and you don't even realize that until you find yourself missing them out of the blue. Well written characters, solid execution and no dragging at all. I'd take this RomCom without a second thought if I hadn't already seen it :P

Don't let that happen to you. Read on further and know why you should give it a chance. Bear wimme since it is a little long. :)
King Of high School doesn't bring anything new to the already established genre of romantic comedy. The plot seems predictable and the actors not veterans in their fields. What invited me in was definitely the awkward dance moves in the teasers that TvN released for this show which inspired many other upbeat teasers for many dramas by main broadcasters in Korea.
Seo In Guk certainly caught my eye and i have loved this man from his Reply 1997 days. Seo In Guk plays this high schooler who gets to be his hyung at his workplace due to some behind-the-scenes stuff happening. Romantic and office hijinks issue as the consequence of that. This drama takes some time to kick start so don't expect fireworks and instant excitement with this drama.
Seo in Guk was undoubtedly the star of the show. Every expression, every gesture and his body language genuinely expressed what he was feeling at that moment. Playing a high school kid when you are already 26 aint easy. to top it off the character of Min Suk was not easy to play. Seo In Guk played Min SUk with so much conviction that i wanted a high schooler of my own. His childish anger, his laughs, his arrogance, his smile, his pure and kind heart are all indications of a great man he is going to become. In that he is a plain contrast to the adults in the show who are too serious for their own good. Where Min Suk goes he turns everybody's lives upside down and gives them a taste of fun and cheerful stuff that life should be made of. . He is like a sun on a cold wintry morning because he brings warmth and screen presence with him. The fact that he is so handsome only adds on to this young actors talents. Did i mention how utterly awesome Seo In Guk looks when he curses? Mind blowingly hot that it makes me wanna curse too. :D
Lee Ha Na is purely a delight to see on screen. Soo Young is a total contrast to every other kdrama heroine because neither is she some naive innocent girl and neither is she worldly and arrogant. She is someone who goes all out for the ones she loves regardless of the fact that that could lead to some very awkward and downright embarrassing situations. That doesn't mean she is weak and cries all the time. She is one of the strongest heroines who knows when to open her mouth and spurt out some swear words or give some much needed advice or speak harsh words to set someone straight. Jung Soo Young will grow on you and after it is finished you will remember how strong, bubbly, lovable and adorkable she was. She is played with a lot of gusto and heart by Lee Ha Na and now im a fan.
The chemistry that Min Suk and Soo Young share is similar to having two high school kids experiencing first love for the first time. They are utterly adorable and totally childish with each other. The age gap didnt feel too much because in real life they are so close to each others ages and frankly Seo in Guk is too much like a puppy in love which just turns my heart to all time fangirl high.
The relationships in this show are the heart and soul of the whole masterpiece. The writer reminds me in a lot of ways of the writers of Reply 1997. Everybody and i mean literally everybody gets screen time in this show from the side office workers to the grandpa. The talent of a writer shows in the way they treat the show's smaller characters. The writer here gives them a life of their own irrespective of their contribution to the plot and fleshes out these characters who are least stereotypical and one-dimensional. I love the office workers who are a bunch of kids bowing to another kid. They fill the screen with lots of necessary laughs and cutesy side romances as well. This is possibly the second show after Can You Hear My Heart in which i loved Every.single.character barring just one.
The ever immortally handsome Lee Soo Hyuk came out of hiding and played a flawed and loveless man whose life is filled with thorns and after meeting the bright Soo Young understands that life is much more than money and success. His bromance with Seo In Guk is another highlight of the show and i loved all their childish quarrel, their little squabbles and bro fights.
Halbe and Min Suka should have a show of their own with the way they act like a family. The grandfather-father-son trio are a delight to look at with their sassy talks and crazy dinner table antics. Soo Young and Yoo Ah are probably the bestest of sisters in dramaland who are mature and know what family and relationships mean. The best friends of Min Suk deserve an applause for being such amazing besties who stand tall with their BFF through thick and thin.
There are no betrayals in the show. There is no villain. No bitchy women are here. No monster-in-laws. No meddling relatives. There is no action and neither any over the top stuff happening. Its just a slice of life drama unraveling before our very own eyes with a certain beauty.
Watch it if you are in mood of a little romance, some crazy laughs and adorable family relationships.

Story: I gave it an 8 since the plot isn't any groundbreaking and I admit the description for this drama is cliche but when you get into the drama itself, it was so refreshing. In most romcom kdramas, I usually know or my expectations were right on what will happen next but Marriage Not Dating is just pure surprise. They made the cliche worth watching, you don't even know what to expect.
Acting/Cast: 10. The actors are so perfect esp the main leads. I already forget the last time I root for the main couple so much. Props to Han Groo and Yeon Woo Jin, it's like this drama its tailor-made for them. Though the side characters Jinwoon and Sunhwa did not appeal to me, Jung Min (Hoon Dong), and Kim Hae Sook are so great I kind of forget the 2nd leads.
Music: Should I include the sound effects here because 10 is not enough for it. :The sound effects guy must be in every romcom drama) The OSTs in this drama are so good and it match the scenes perfectly.
Rewatch Value: Oh boy, this one of the few kdramas I will never get tired rewatching. Maybe I'll start in a few hours. Haha. :)
Overall: 9.5 This my highest rated kdrama ever because I never give a perfect 10. It's just me but definitely all those almost perfect dramas waned in the middle or still lacks something. But all in all this is still the best romcom drama for me. No extended angst and pure fun.

For starters, let me mention the difficulty to assemble my thoughts about such a wonderful drama. It took me a while to know where to start but let’s begin with this: Making a Taiga about one of Japan’s most influential figures was such an astonishing idea! Once again, let me insist on the accuracy of Taiga’s, they abide to historical facts with only few minor changes that can never cause the deviation of the historical flow. There is also the very informative “Travelogue” at the end of each episode to nourish your historical knowledge on some characters with the addition of real places to visit in Japan (when my long dream of visiting Japan comes true, I will go there for sure!).
Ryoma didn’t live much but through his short life, he did many unforgettable deeds for Japan and its people. Being born as a Tosa’s Kashi (Low Samurai rank), he wasn’t handcuffed by the daimyo rules or the common traditions. Instead, he had dreamy ideas to change his country to what Japan became like in our recent days. The Bakumatsu era aka the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate was one of the most turbulent times in Japan’s recent history until the Meiji restoration came along. Our hero had to go through that period with many revolutionary thoughts in his mind. Ideas that were harshly rejected at times, hardly accepted at other times but very much acknowledged most of the time.
Ryoma character always intrigued me, being a low-class samurai who stood up for the well-being of all the people of Japan must be the main reason behind it. When the bakufu was ruling Japan for over 260 years with the same old fashioned thoughts, an air of change had to blow them up and make them realize that the world is moving on and so should they. That air was Sakamoto Ryoma, through his adventures he was able to gather the essence of Japan’s future in a new world. It’s a world where they can be amongst the leading countries instead of falling into the merciless claws of imperialism.
Ryoma’s life had many turns and countless of encounters. It started with his family, his childhood play-pals, going through his first love, his idols in life, his allies, his enemies, his teachers, his women meetings and all of his comrades. Sakamoto Ryoma always managed to leave a deep impression into anyone he met, whether they loved him, hated him or even those who wanted to kill him. I think Ryoma’s most note-worthy quality was his ability to negotiate and convince the other party of the legitimacy of his views; he does that with perfection even against the most fearsome and huge figures of his time. Many believed in him and countless supported him as he embarked his journey towards a bright future and that didn’t come from naught, Ryoma was able to capture them one way or another.
Turbulent times are full of political clashes and endless battles but that made the drama even more exciting. Every detail of the Japanese history at the time was inserted in the most captivating way. Our narrator Yataro played by Kagawa Teruyuki added more attractiveness to the events. His historical tone while telling Ryoma’s life was priceless; one of the best narrations I ever came across in any Asian drama!
Now if I have to state my little displeasure about this drama it would be the over-idolizing of Ryoma’s character. I know about that because I actually read a lot about Sakamoto Ryoma and Japan’s history prior watching this drama and his character isn’t as perfect as the drama describes it to be. I know that they want to honour a Japanese hero and a little dramatization is no escape to make an appealing drama but I felt uneasy about those parts, even a little.
When we talk about Taiga dramas, we need to pay extra attention to acting considering its crucial role in maintaining ground-breaking historical telling. Fukuyama Masaharu nailed it so bad as Sakamoto Ryoma, he was able to make the character feel pretty much alive. He once stated about playing Ryoma’s character: “His appeal stems from being the kind of person onto whom anyone can project themselves”; that explains it all.
The supporting cast was full of many incredible talents such as Omori, Tanihara, Iseya, Takahashi, Aoi, Kiritani, Oizomi, Takito, Oikawa, Maki, Kamikawa, Sato, Kaname and many others. They were able to maintain a very intriguing historical tone throughout the whole drama. It’s no secret that Taiga and historical dramas overall are what make you test an actor’s skills and this drama’s cast gave wonderful credits to the characters they played. However, the best of them all was Kagawa as Yataro, no wonder he got many awards for that role; he was able to flawlessly play the role of Ryoma’s lifelong friend with all of their complex relationship, it takes an actor from a high calibre to pull that off. He undisputedly managed to steal the lights from Fukuyama countless of times.
The cinematography was pretty well illustrated with all of those charming sceneries in old-times Edo, Tosa and Kyo. I was pretty immersed in the realistic depiction of the historical setting and the soundtrack used in this drama. However, I was displeased with the camerawork. Directing has been the major issue with Taiga dramas. Although it can be disregarded since this is a drama not a film but I still hope this can be changed.
Watch if:
-You like historically accurate dramas.
-You like NHK Taiga dramas.
-You want to watch a drama about one of Japan’s most important figures.
-You like political oriented dramas.
-You want to discover Taiga dramas.
Don’t watch if:
-You don’t appreciate historical Japanese dramas.
Ryoma Den left me with many great thoughts about Ryoma’s character even with the little differences compared to history. My second NHK Taiga adventure was a total success and now I am thirsty for more!

Acting/Cast: Love the lead couple. Excellent chemistry! The rest of the cast were brilliant as well and their stories were given adequate weighting.
Music: There is only one song that I liked from this drama. The rest were ok but not outstanding.
Rewatch value: Watching it as it aired was the way to go. If you haven't watch it, you'll appreciate this drama. It is a worthy entertainment. However, I will not be re-watching this soon due to work commitments. It is a drama that you'll like to the point of wanting to finish watching it on one seating but not one that you will be addicted to for months to come.
Overall: I give it a 8.5/10, mainly for its well-written story and excellent cast. Well done! I was definitely entertained!
