A Hot Mess!

Gosh, I don't even know where to start. This was one of my most anticipated BLs of this year, and I am so disappointed.
Let me start with the good. I adore Zee. I have been following him since Why R U? and he is literally why I was looking forward to this drama. His acting did not disappoint, and I was pleasantly surprised by NuNew. For a first-time actor, he did a great job. There were a couple of scenes where I felt like he could have delivered more, but overall them and the rest of the cast did a pretty good job acting-wise.

Another thing that actually led me to finish this instead of dropping it, is the side couple. Syn and Nuer. OMG. They are just the cutest lil beans I have ever seen in my life, and if I had to watch an entire drama of them just staring into each other eyes, I would!!!!

Finally, the music. I will be honest and say I don't know much about Thai music, but this drama introduced me to so many great songs that I have been listening to on repeat.

Now let's move on to the bad. The story was a complete mess! And honestly, calling it a storyline, is a bit of a stretch. The same plot was dragged and spun for the entire twelve episodes and the characters just kept lying and deceiving each other. Not to mention, the pacing was so hard to follow. I felt like I had no idea what was happening half the time. I get that the whole point of this drama was to watch them grow and learn to communicate, but I still feel like they haven't. In fact, this show had some of the most stagnant characters I have ever seen. There was little to no character development for both of them, in the end, they both found out each other's secrets, did nothing to resolve the miscommunication, and continued on in their lives like nothing was wrong, but NOTHING CHANGED! There are so many things that I felt went unaddressed. The show should have focused less on being preachy and more on actually writing a plot with substance.

Hot kissing scenes are always fun to watch, but it's not going to save a drama with a boring messy plot or boring stagnant characters. The saddest thing is, this had the potential to be so good. A stellar cast, a good budget, and an established fanbase. It had everything going for it. Unfortunately, it just couldn't deliver.

Full Review
Of all the various remakes, I have to say Thailand did it best. Whether it be in production, music, visuals, acting, or anything else. I completely enjoyed watching this version of F4.

Let's start with the plot. While it's true they didn't change much of the plot, they changed it in ways that matter. They've added details, backstories, and even some new plot lines that really explain character motivations and honestly help the viewers connect and empathize more with the characters. The focus on the world of business, the harshness associated with it, and the privilege the rich get, is something extremely relevant to society today. They were able to incorporate this into the plot and make it seem like it was always meant to be there. I liked that they also aimed at exploring the power of social media throughout the show, whether it be at school or following the lives of the boys. Essentially they've fixed up plot holes and added in details, that make the entire thing fresh and new, which is exactly what it needed. Even If you have seen another adaptation of F4, there is no way you would find this boring or repetitive. It was the perfect blend of romance, humor, angst, and emotional payoff. The pacing was incredibly well done as well, the 16 episodes were structured and planned out so well, I can't think of a single thing they missed. Of course, I wouldn't be mad if we got more fluffy moments between the main leads though. If I had to complain, I should say that there were a few scenes that were much more dramatic than they should have been or plots that were taken a little too far. I think it's just something inherent to Thai dramas as a whole, and it didn't happen often, so it didn't really bother me too much.

In terms of production, F4 really outdid itself. Everything looked amazing, the cars, the clothes, the houses, the school. In addition, every scene was shot beautifully, and with meaning. Everything thing had a touch of symbolism to it, representing a bigger picture. I loved that. Even flower garlands were used as metaphors at one point. I haven't seen any other works from this director, but you can be sure I am going to check them out. They are extremely talented.

Now my favorite part of the entire series, the characters and acting. In my opinion, everyone did an amazing job, but some did stand out more than others. First of all, for this to be Tu and Dew's first series, my mind is blown. They did so well. Tu was perfect as the strong-headed FL and Dew made me swoon with every move he made as Ren. Win and Nani did great as well. I love that they and their characters were given more of a chance to shine as well. In past versions, they seemed like side characters, who were just there, but here they had dynamic personalities and actually advanced the plot. I love love love what they did with MJ, and I am a fan now. You can bet I am going to watch everything Nani is now. Even Prim as Kaning was adorable, and I enjoyed watching her relationship with Kavin develop.

The standouts for me have to be Bright and Cindy though. Oh my god. Bright is already a well-established popular actor, and as always he did great, but his version of Thyme is honestly the best one I have ever seen. He isn't a single-minded arrogant bully, who was turned good by the power of love, no. He is a real person with real flaws and actual motivations that lead him to do the things he does. From the very first episode, we see a glimpse behind the curtain of his facade as a ruthless bully allowing the viewers to truly understand, empathize with him, and at one point even start caring for him. Something we never saw in other versions. Instead of just watching his journey of falling in love, growing up, and becoming a better person, it feels like we are taken along with him. We see every instance where Gorya has an impact on him and how it slowly starts to change him for the better. His personality is much more dynamic and well fleshed out, which is honestly one of the biggest reasons why this may be the best F4 adaptation. I love character development, and Thyme had the best of it.

Cindy though, wow! We didn't really get to see her shine until the last few episodes, but every time she was on screen I was captivated by her. Her acting was outstanding, easily my favorite of the entire series. She has been acting for a while, and you can see the experience, but I know some veteran actors who aren't as good as her. She did amazing. Thyme's mother is such a complex, intriguing character. She has actual motivations and reasons for her actions, which is one of the best things that can be done for an antagonist. But an antagonist who does what she does out of love is such a hard character to play, and she nailed it. With every expression, and look in her eyes, you can see the emotion just rolling off her in spades. Whether it be hate, arrogance, love, sadness, or fear, she expressed everything so beautifully, even if I tried I couldn't tear my eyes off her. Even though it came off a little rushed, I was so glad to see her character development because it was something I was waiting for. From the beginning, you could tell, that while her actions appear selfish, her motivations weren't, and we just had to wait for her to realize what's truly best for her son.

As amazing as each actor was individually, the chemistry between all of them was outstanding. The couples were cute and made me squeal, but it was their friendship that sealed the deal for me. They had an actual bond and truly cared for each other. They were real friends that were truly supportive no matter what and it was amazing to watch. It showed that as important as romantic love is, friendship and family are just as important in shaping a person and helping them grow. Even F4s interactions with Gorya were adorable, in my head, I call them the Gorya protection squad, and honestly, that should be canon. Also, I don't care what anyone says, but Kavin and MJ are the true MVPs, they never failed to make me laugh.

Lastly, the music. It was so good, I loved it. Who am I (the intro song), is easily my favorite, shooting star is really good too, and I personally enjoyed Nani's Best Life. I am not a huge music buff, so I don't really pay much attention to the music, but F4 did an amazing job. Nowhere did I feel that the music was odd or mistimed, in fact, it only enhanced every scene it was in.

This was an enjoyable watch and my favorite part of Saturdays. Every week, without fail, I would wait to watch this, and promptly after the episode was over I would be in anticipation for the next. Without a doubt, the best remake of Hana Yori Dango. If you are skeptical about picking this up because you didn't like the previous adaptations or are worried it's going to be more of the same old thing, let go of your doubts and give it a try. I guarantee you will be hooked.

An absolute hidden gem of a series!

So I was not at all planning to pick this up. The synopsis did not interest me, nor did the trailer, but on one random day when I had nothing to do, I decided to give this a shot, and boy am I glad I did. The first two episodes were a little hard to get through, but after that, this entire show was just such a delight.

First, for the plot, it is not terribly deep or intriguing but I never felt like it was boring either. The point was to tell the story of various people discovering themselves and falling in love in the process and I think they did a great job with that.

What I absolutely loved though, was the characters. Every single one of them was so unique and dynamic. There wasn't a single time when I wished anyone would get off my screen or things would move along. Gosh, Toh was such a weird little bug, but Nuea was just as weird in his own way, and they were adorable together. In the first couple of episodes, I was creeped out by where I thought the story for them might be heading, but they ended up being super sweet and healthy, I was shocked. The character development was just *chef's kiss*!

And ugh, Sky and Jao!!!! I don't even know where to start with them. They made me squeal and cry and laugh, and I just couldn't get enough of them. Sky is a walking green flag, who knew what he wanted and did mess around to get it. I loved how he was so respectful of Jao's boundaries but still being straightforward and reassuring, that yes, Jao is the one he wants. Even when Jao gets insecure or unsure, he just listens to Jao's concerns and doesn't berate him or call him silly for having them, and I love that. And Jao, that sweet lil bean. Oh, I love him. I loved watching him grow from someone who hid away in corners, to someone who is openly able to express his affection, it was beautiful.

Of course, how can I not mention Intouch and Daisy???? They were so sweet!! AHHH!! Every time Touch saw Daisy, his smile would just light up the whole room. I am not kidding, it was blinding. And he was so respectful of Daisy and the way they identified themself, I was in awe. He wasn't ashamed or hiding his affection, and he made sure Daisy knew that. He made sure Daisy was unafraid to be themself, and I almost cried every time I saw them together. I really really wish they had more screen time because they deserve it! Here's to hoping for a spin-off.

I also need to talk about Toh and his group of friends! I just, I don't think I have ever seen a more supportive loving group of friends. They really were a found family, and you can see it in the way they really cared for each other. There was this one scene where Som (whom I freaking love, omg, like the coolest chick ever) was telling Daisy not to force themselves to be anything they don't want to be, and I was in tears. It was probably, the highlight of the series for me.

Other than the characters, what I really really really loved though, was the representation. This is an example of how a show can do it right. Where the gay or trans characters are not a plot device or comedic relief, but real people with real feelings, who deserve to have their stories told. It wasn't preachy or weird, it was just there and natural and beautiful.

I do have to say though, that as much as I loved this show, each hour-long episode took me two to watch, because of how much I had to pause or rewind. I don't think I have ever watched a show that gave me as much second-hand embarrassment as this one. Not even 'Fish Upon the Sky'. I even think my immunity and ability to watch embarrassing moments went down not up lol. That being said though, I do not regret watching this one bit. It was a joy to watch, even if I was watching through my fingers.

Spoilers Below
Where do I even begin, oh my god. Although the plot is not anything new or even special really, the way the story was told and everything was executed was so well done, I can't say enough good things about it. There were no toxic cliches and immature misunderstandings. No gay stereotypes like tops and bottoms, or trying to fit the characters into heteronormative ideals. It was just a beautiful love story between two individuals who learn how to love themselves and each other, and I am here for it!

I absolutely just ADORE Pat and Pran, like I can not get them out of my head. First let me talk about Pat, the boy is a walking green flag! He is adorable and sweet, and so so in love. You can see the adoration and love in his eyes when he just thinks about pran let alone looks at him. Every little thing he does for pran just warms my heart I can't even mention specific moments here because everything was endearing. From the guitar, to the kiss, to the confession, to just being there when Pran needs him, everything was great. Plus, he is the KING of communication, so there's that. One thing I just absolutely love is that he knows pran is more reserved and careful than him, so he does everything in his power to make sure Pran is always comfortable, and that none of his boundaries are crossed. Guys, I just wanna cry thinking about it. I just love this stupidly in love, pure, clingy, lovable puppy of a boy and nothing can change my mind. I have seen Ohm in almost all of his other works and I have always enjoyed his acting. He's only been getting better with time, and his talent definitely shines through here. I am so glad that he is finally getting the recognition he deserves.

Pran is also a wonderfully complex character, and I loved watching him throughout the series. His characterization is so complex and dynamic, I loved every moment he was on screen. I especially loved that even though he is reserved he was the king of flirting, and turned pat into an absolute puddle with a single glance. If pat is considered a character to act before he thinks, pran is definitely an over thinker and they compliment each other so well. And while he might be more quiet, he is not any less sure of himself or a pushover. Nanon did an absolutely incredible job portraying such a complex character, and his acting absolutely stole the show. This is the first drama of his I have ever seen, I am certain that I will follow his future projects as well. His acting was so subtle and real, I could feel the emotions through my screen, it was just pouring out of him. I think he is honestly, one of the best actors I have seen in any drama. The one scene that totally ruined me, was at the end of ep 4, when Pat says that he thinks he likes Ink, god! The emotions on his face and the subtle tears in his eyes. It broke my heart, but in a good way. I can't put into words how much that scene moved me. There are so many examples through out the series, where we see more of this amazing subtle acting, that can bring me to an emotional mess just by the change of an expression. I am a huge fan of Ohms, but Nanon just kept drawing my eyes to him.

As amazing as these characters are individually, together they are even better. They just compliment each other so well, and they actually communicate. This is honestly one of the healthiest on screen relationships I have ever seen in BL or straight dramas, and I love it. OhmNanon's chemistry is off the charts. Just single glances and touches has me squealing like a little girl, I can't even begin to describe what they do to me. I am so glad that we got to seem them as a couple, and that they actually behave like one. There are too many BLs where they say they are dating but act even more distant than friends, like just being in the same room is uncomfortable and I am so glad we are moving away from things like that. I also love that neither of them went that cliche 'I am not gay I just love you' route, although not explicitly said I think the show was hinting that Pran is gay, (I wished he did say it explicitly though), and Pat pretty much implied that he was Pan. So a step forward in terms of representation, but still a long way to go.

A major major part of this drama's high rating is honestly just the characters, but the plot itself is good as well. Its not the most amazing or unique plot, but it is an example of a common plot done entreatingly well. The production and story telling was really good, and the pacing was good as well. I never felt like things were dragging or too rushed. The side characters were also interesting and well developed, Ink and Pa were adorable, and I enjoyed every moment Korn was on my screen. I may be a little biased towards Drake though. Jimmy was a sight to look at and Wai had his moments both good and bad. I am a little upset that we didn't see a proper conversation between Wai and Pran though, especially where Wai apologized for outing him, because not cool Wai, not cool!

And finally the music. OMG the music. I did not know that Nanon sings so well, but he does and the first time I heard his song Just Friend? I fell in love. I never listened to Thai music before this, but I cant get this OST out of my head. Even our song is so good. I am not a big music person, so I rarely mention it, unless the music is really good or memorable, and in this case it was both.

I could honestly rewatch this drama over and over again just because I love the characters and actors so much. The plot is simple but fun, and just thinking about PatPran puts a smile on my face. I already miss them so much, and they literally nestled their way into my heart, and don't seem to be keen on coming out anytime soon.

I regret not watching this sooner! (Minor minor minor spoilers)

I kept pushing this off for the longest time, and as I neared the end of my BL binge and didn't have much else left to watch, I finally decided to give this a try. To be honest, I am not a fan of the whole heart transplant thing, it always seems to messy and complicated and takes away from the romance. Thankfully, P'Aof handled it tastefully. For a BL the plot was definitely unique and I can happily say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. But my favorite part of this drama has to be the characters, and I'm not just talking about the main leads. Every character was well fleshed out and interesting. I loved seeing the village interact with each other and the leads and never felt like they were taking up too much screen time.

The chemistry between EarthMix is just WOW! I could feel it through my screen just with glances and brief touches. They absolutely killed me. I have seen Earth before in other dramas, and always enjoyed when he was on screen, so had an absolute thrill watching him as the main lead in this series. Although his character was a little static in the way it was written, I think he did a really good job. And Mix, damn! Hard to believe this is his first acting role. He did so amazingly well, I am blown away. Tian's character growth was a sight to behold and I love the journey that both he and the viewers were taken on. To see him go from this spoiled entitled brat who was mad at the world, to a man who has found his happiness and is thankful to be alive was such an emotional journey, and Mix really did an amazing job in portraying Tian's emotions.

The only thing, and this is literally the only thing I didn't like was Phupha's behavior towards the end. I think he had no right and was unfair to Tian. Other than that I have zero complaints, except maybe for Phupha's fake beard, lol.

Since this is a slow burn romance drama, I don't think I would be able to sit and rewatch it all over again. Maybe if I feel like it, might rewatch a couple scenes but nothing else. But if you are a first time watcher and unsure about starting it, just give it a try. I promise you will not have any regrets.

Watch only if you have nothing to watch or just want something on in the background.

This is the lowest, I have ever rated a drama. The only thing that I liked in this whole drama was Yoon Seo Bin, who plays the non vampire main lead. He is definitely a newbie and that shines through in his acting, but you can see potential. He was adorable throughout the drama, like a puppy you just want to put in your pocket. The other ML did an okay job but nothing too memorable, so in all the acting was quite lackluster.

In terms of plot, it is so underdeveloped its not even funny. There are the makings of a few good ideas, albeit cliche, but nothing was executed well. A lot of plot points were actually left unexplained, and left my puzzled by the end of it. I was wondering who this or that person really is, and why they did the things they did. In fact, it seems like the writers had no idea too and just used underdeveloped ideas and static characters to further the story. The ability to tell a plot rich story with complex characters in such a short time is a hard feat, and one that this drama could not achieve.

If you really have nothing to watch, or don't have a lot of time or energy to invest into a different drama, then go ahead and pick this up. But if you are looking for something that keeps your eyes glued to your screen, skip it.

I loved this!!!

I went into this not really expecting much (recent K BL's have been a let down), but wow did I love this. In terms of plot it is nothing new. A simple enemies to lovers trope set in university, which is common to a lot of BLs, but this was a trope done excellently. The plot was well thought out and not too complex so nothing was really left hanging, and I love the characterization of both leads, not to mention their amazing chemistry, Every interaction left me with a smile on my face. In my opinion the casting was spot on and both leads really embodied their characters. I never felt like the acting was lacking or awkward. Also Yu Na is an absolute spotlight stealer. I loved her in ever scene she had and actually wish she had more screen time. Another thing that I really love is that there was none of those stupid, I am not gay and I like only xxx lines. I am not too sure if it was ever explicitly stated, but I think I remember Yuna talking about Jae Young having an ex bf or something of the sort. And Yuna herself mentions and ex gf, which ahhhh. I think this kind of representation is super important, and I am glad the Korean industry is coming around to it. Hopefully, it won't be long until characters can openly identify themselves. I will definitely come back to this every now and then when I am bored or need a pick me up.

A cute and light drama that was undone by its length.

So I started this without too many expectations, I just wanted something fun and light to watch, which it was. This is not something with a super deep plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat or in suspense. So I watched at my own pace, whenever I had the time. Even though there is nothing unique about the plot it was entertaining in its own right. It's your standard childhood friends/crush that is explored as adults, and I liked that it was set up against a corporate background, so we got to see the leads as working individuals and not just as a couple. I enjoyed watching the characters' journies, whether it be in love or work and the chemistry between the main leads was really good. The second couple was cute too. The side characters were not all that present throughout the show, so I felt that they lacked dynamic.

That being said I need to mention Du Lei. The writers did such a great job with his character development, only to ruin it at the last moment. He went from being someone we were slightly suspicious of, to someone who was growing into himself and figuring out what he really wants from life, which was honestly just love. Even though the girl he loved, loved someone else he was supportive and never made her feel uncomfortable. At one point he and the ML lead were even becoming friends. But in the last 6 episodes, everything went to hell. He become a bad guy who started using his job for illegal gain, became pushy and jealous with the FL, and even forced an unwanted kiss onto her at the end. They didn't just undo his character development, they pushed him into the negative. He became someone completely unrecognizable. This was honestly the biggest disappointment of the drama.

I also hated the story in the last 6 episodes, especially when the ML was trying to convince the FL that she should quit her job and stay home to start a family, that he was rich enough to support all of them. Thank god the show didn't end up going that route. Honestly those last 6 episodes were so unnecessary. If this show ended at ep 30, its rating would be much higher.

However, don't let that stop you from picking this up. If you want something that's light and fun, and you can watch at your own pace, this is definitely a good choice. Maybe just skip the last 6 episodes.

A slow paced drama, that starts well but becomes repetitive and boring.

I had really enjoyed the previous works of both main leads, so I was quite excited to start this. I watched it as it was airing, and during the first couple of episodes, I thought okay, this looks like it could be interesting. And towards the middle of the drama, things were picking up and I was genuinely invested in the characters' lives. But after that things just go downhill.

Conflicts kept arising which would usually be okay, but all the conflicts were so similar to each other. Just there to sow discord and doubt in the main couple's relationship. This caused the drama to feel draggy. At the start, I felt like the chemistry between the main leads was a little lacking, but in the next few episodes I saw their chemistry slowly start to build, and I truly enjoyed watching them go from strangers to people in love, in a realistic way. But that's about it. I feel that this honestly did not need to be as long as it was. 8 episodes would have been enough to tell a nice story that didn't make me want to skip scenes.

As for the side couples, I enjoyed watching the FL's sisters' relationship, they were actually adorable and probably my favorite couple for the series. As for the SML and SFL, I am just so surprised they even worked out. All they seemed to have done the entire series is fight, and it's always the same fight spun in different ways.

Apart from the different couples, the plot was basically non-existent. Every other episode or so there would be some drama about forecasting the weather, and if the prediction would be right or not, it was fun to watch at first, but after the first couple of times I started skipping the forecasting scenes because they all seemed the same. I really wish they had introduced a more complex plot related to their job, so it would just be us watching the home lives of a bunch of people who work in the same field, because thats exactly what it felt like.

All in all, this is definitely not a very memorable drama, and if I didn't watch it while it was airing, I probably would not have finished it. If you really like the leads or want something slow-paced that you don't need to pay a lot of attention to, then pick this up, otherwise I would say skip it.

A simple, enjoyable drama that puts a smile on your face.

This was such a fun watch. I am new to chinese dramas, and I honestly just wanted something sweet and romantic. Boy, did this deliver. The chemistry between the main leads was so good, and Lu Si Cheng, had me swooning over him. The romance was paced well and not too fast or slow. Once they get into a relationship though, omg. I can't handle it. They. Are. So. Adorable. The ML especially, he is so cute I don't even know what to do with my self. This is the first drama of Xu Kai's I have ever seen but ajhdgsjdsl. He is so swoonworthy. Apart from the main leads, I adore absolutely all of the side characters. Especially those on the ZGDX team. The team dynamic and character interactions were just so fun to watch.

Plot wise, there is nothing ground breaking or revolutionary, but it was entertaining. I did speed through some of the gaming scenes because I just honestly couldn't understand some of it, but there weren't too many so it was fine. I do wish, they would. have delved a little deeper and developed the some of the characters back stories that we say. It would have added an interesting flair to the drama, but considering this is a fluffy, slice of life drama I can't complain much.

The music was good, not too memorable but enjoyable.

I could definitely see my self going back to watch some of main couple's cute scenes when I need a pick me up or am in the mood for some nice fluffy romance.

A good watch for those days where you just want something simple, fun, and doesn't require a lot of brain power. It's a nice relaxing drama that is sure to put a smile on your face

A cliche rom-com done amazingly well!

This was such a treat to watch. It actually had me looking forward to Mondays. The drama had me hooked from the very first episode. Sure it's a plot we have seen often, fake dating to real, and it had almost every cliche mentionable, but everything was done right and tastefully. Even scenes you would think to be over the top were done really well. I think the fact that it didn't take itself too seriously and fully embraced the comedy-style romance, worked in its favor. There's not one moment where I felt this is too cheesy or awkward. As a bonus, there were no silly misunderstandings that lead to over-dramatic break-ups and whatnot. Both couples had incredible communication and it was refreshing to see. Not to mention that their chemistry was off the charts. Even if I had to, I couldn't pick which couple I enjoyed watching more. The cast was absolutely fantastic. Everyone acted well and fit their roles perfectly. I already loved Kim Mingyu and Kim Sejong, but this drama decidedly put Ahn Hyo Seop and Seol In Ah on my radar and I couldn't be happier.

Apart from that, I enjoyed every moment the side characters were on my screen. Whether it be Hari's family, the chairman, or food development team 1, I laughed in joy every time. Sure there were a couple of annoying ones, but their screentime was minimal so I won't complain.

I am also super glad that they decided to only film 12 episodes. I think that's the perfect number. Because of it, they were able to get the pacing just right. I never thought that any scenes were unnecessarily dragged on, or even worse rushed through. Also, I wish there was a section to rate the production or editing because it was so well done in this drama. Whether it be the silly animations, the words, or flashbacks, nothing felt out of place or kiddish. The director and editors did a great job.

This was a great drama that had me looking forward to the week and was sure to put a smile on my face. Sometimes you need a sweet, fluffy, and funny drama. Not everything has to be deep and meaningful. This fills that purpose and it was a joy to watch.
