I accidentally started my exploration of obsession with Asian dramas in October of 2019.
I was exhausted with all the horrible TV shows and movies on Netflix and I was aimlessly scrolling, looking for a new show to binge. I kept getting some 'Netflix Original' Asian content popping up as recommended so I decided to give one a try. I used to watch a lot of anime in the past - subtitles weren't something I avoided - and in that moment I had nothing to lose but some time.... So that single click of my mouse turned into a 2 day obsession - I barely slept, preparing food became too time consuming, and it was hard to step away for bathroom breaks. The style, pacing, and story line of the show was so different compared to what I was used to seeing in American TV. It captured me like nothing I've ever experienced before.
Now I have more than 495 shows completed or in progress, over 7,600 episodes watched, and I am learning a new language. 한국말을 조금 할 수 있어요.
I have dedicated a large portion of my life for 5 years to these beautiful stories of love, loss, life, and everything in between... and I have no regrets.
How I Rate My Watched Dramas
(I tend to rate generously based on how much I enjoyed the show or how well it engaged me from start to finish)
1-3.5 out of 10: Hated it so much I don't know why I finished it
4-5.5 out of 10: Didn't like it, but couldn't say I hated it either
6-7 out of 10: Meh. Nothing to write home about but it was ok
7.5-8.5 out of 10: Liked it although there may be some larger plot holes that bothered me
9-9.5 out of 10: Loved it but maybe one or two small things were lacking
10 out of 10: I adored this and I WILL re-watch it more than once
