A perfect balance of romance, action, fantasy and comedy!

You know those dramas that you start watching with not many expectations and they turn out to be one of the best dramas you’ve ever watched? AoS is that drama for me. I started it when I had nothing to watch and my Saturdays and Sundays were starting to feel boring. But boy, did I know that would be hooked and wait for those days of the week so eagerly? Absolutely not!

As said in the title of the review, AoS offers everything — acting, plot, groundbreaking cinematography, toe-curling romance and what not? Kdramas, in my opinion, have stopped making *many* romance or simply fantasy dramas ever since they expanded in the west. It’s not like I don’t love thrillers and experimental plots, I’m always up for a good thriller. But sometimes I’m just tired from work & stuff and I just want some action, some family drama and some romance in my life. AoS did the job for me. Though it has a handful of heartbreaking moments (not to mention the one at the end of part 1), it’s still very entertaining and doesn’t get boring.

Onto the last part of the review: acting. Jung So-Min is a phenomenal actor and I regret not discovering her earlier. I can’t spoil much here but the way she has portrayed different characters, I feel like nobody else could do a better job than her. And Lee Jae-Wook, what do you mean he’s a ‘98 liner? How can a person be that versatile and that talented at such a young age? I totally fell for him in AoS. The other actors did a great job too, of course. There wasn’t a single bad acting moment in this series, for me at least.

Last but not least, I’m on the edge of my seat for part 2. Words can’t describe how I’m getting through each day right and how many times I have thought of sleeping right now directly waking up on December 10th. Although I’m a little sad that So-Min will no longer be a part of the series, I’m very excited to see Go Youn-Jung and her chemistry with Lee Jae-Wook. She did a great job during the starting of the series and I’m sure she will do a great job playing the FL in part 2, too!

Thanks for reading this review ♡

A waste of potential

The title of my review says everything. The plot of this series is very captivating and a very good thriller could be built on this plot, but, well, it has been ruined. It might sound like I’m generalizing but why are most of the non-BL thai dramas like this? Good potential, good plot but everything is a waste.

I started this series with so much expectations because 1) the plot looked interesting.
2) it had only 6 eps so I believed it wouldn’t be slow and wouldn’t have filler episodes.

But all of my expectations were trampled on. The series started and the FL character started to annoy me since her very first shot. She was bad at acting. I can’t conceal it more than that.

The ML was okay-ish. To be very honest, the only person who acted like an actor was Bright. And he had a role you could label as a cameo. The reason I didn’t give zero and instead gave 1.5 stars in acting is him and only him.

The plot was very slow, in my opinion. It would be a spoiler if I say anything more than this, so this is it.

Lastly, if you’re reading this review and you feel offended by it, well, I’m sorry? This is just what I felt while watching the series and it’s not necessary for all of us to feel the same thing while watching it.

Have a good day!

indeed a tearjerker!

it’s been a long time since I watched such an emotional tear-jerking drama. this drama was really heart-touching. let’s break down the aspects one by one & how it could have improved too:

STORY: the story is very good. although no major modifications are needed in the story, I do think a few more elements should have been added to make it more entertaining. I loved the drama overall, but I would not deny and say that I didn’t force myself to get through a few episodes because of how boring it was getting. the starting was good, the ending was awesome, especially the last 3 episodes. I think the idea of them falling in love with each-other *gradually* wasn’t really well executed. it just happened suddenly, kind of. also, the genre also includes comedy, which was very little to zero. at first it did have funny stuff going on, which only lasted up until episode 5, I guess. overall the drama was good, though it should not be characterized as a rom-com because they really forgot to put the “com” here. the “rom” was satisfactory though. I personally liked the story.

ACTING: I have no words. shin hyesun has never not served and I never think twice before giving her a 10/10 for acting. kim myungsoo, despite being a kpop idol (as idols have a history of sucking at acting, exceptions excluded), acted so well. supporting actors were all good, no real complaints about acting.

SOUNDTRACK: the soundtrack was very good, some of the songs are on their way to become evergreen in my playlists.

OVERALL REVIEW: good, you should watch it if you’re into tearjerkers. and sacrificial love. and tongue kisses. personally I’m into all three of these so I liked the drama.

A good thriller for thriller enjoyers (like me)

You must’ve heard the phrase “being on the edge of the seat.” That’s exactly what this movie made me do. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole movie. The first time chills went down my spine was when the FL got in her car to run away from Do-Shik and he was already sitting in her car. Damn.

Kyung-Mi was very smart. Most importantly she was good at catching up. When the first time she asked the public to help her, they didn’t because she had a knife in her hand and Do-Shik didn’t. She learnt from this. She learnt that people believe what they see. So the next time they encountered e/o in public, she injured herself and made it look like Do-Shik did it and this time “people believe what they see” worked in her favor. My favorite part in the whole movie.

Lastly, the acting was 10/10. And the situations were well thought. The scene where Kyung-Mi felt trapped and had no choice but to beg for mercy in front of the psychopath, mind-blowing. It was very relatable with a very deep meaning. Anyone with no other choice would get on his knees to save himself. There’s a hindi proverb that goes “मरता क्या न करता” lit; “a person who’s dying would do anything.” Both the leads did an amazing job portraying their characters. Throughout the whole movie it felt like those actors were really their respective characters (which, obviously, is false. Wi Ha-Joon isn’t a psychopath lmao).

Thanks for reading my review!

Perfectly-crafted, Soul-shattering!

This drama is fabulous, as a fan of thrillers I approve of it very easily. But it could have some modifications (only a little, but a little is still important).
Let’s break the aspects down one-by-one;

Story: The story was creative, although the core plot is not new. I mean we all have seen one such story before where a cop goes undercover to join the criminals and ends up sympathizing for them. But in ‘The Worst of Evil’ however, it doesn’t quite follow the same plot. it’s unique in its own way. Overall it’s great. I have one question though; in the last episode, it was clear that both Euijeong and Junmo had a soft-corner for Gicheul, proven by the fact that Junmo let him go and didn’t arrest him and Euijeong constantly telling him to stop doing bad things.
Then why did Junmo had to shoot him? I get that he was trying to stop Gicheul from killing himself so that Euijeong gets saved from the guilt of being the reason behind his death, but couldn’t he just shoot him in the leg or something to prevent his suicide? I don’t know, maybe I’m dumb but couldn’t it be simpler?
One of the reasons behind it might be that although Junmo liked Gicheul, he was blinded by the fact that he was his wife’s past-lover who was still in love with her, and Euijeong also obviously had feelings for him. So in the conflict of emotions, he might’ve decided to kill him.
The ending was very bittersweet, but all the characters received their closure so I was pretty satisfied.

I think the general idea of this drama is that the worst form of evil is deceiving somebody. As everybody in the story had deceived somebody in their life, nobody really got their happy ending. The story was well-crafted to show this.

Cast & Acting: One of the sole reasons behind starting this drama was Wi Ha-joon for me, so that pretty much tells you how well the actors did their job. This was the first time I saw Ji Changwook act, and man did he eat the role up. He was so good at it. Casting didn’t have any issues, all the actors did a great job. Bibi? Man how can she act so well as somebody who isn’t originally an actor? It’s a boon to be so versatile, really. She was awesome.

Soundtrack: It’s a webseries, a thriller one on top of that, so it doesn’t really have your typical kdrama OSTs. But the soundtrack was good, did the job for making the scenes more effective and creating an overall impact.

So, that’s about it. That is what I felt about this drama. It was a great watch for me, and I would recommend it to everyone looking for a good traumatizing thriller.

A breath of fresh air in the era of murder mysteries!

don’t get me wrong by the title — I love murder mysteries. but the thing is that, sometimes we’re just so tired of everything and want a distraction, a sweet and calming atmosphere. King The Land did the job for me.

first of all, I love rom-coms, no matter how cheesy they get at some point. King The Land on the other hand, is a very well written rom-com. just the right amount of cliché that gets all the romance-nerds curling their toes and screaming in the pillow.

it has the basic plot as you already know from the summary above, rich guy-poor girl, rivalry for position, the leads get off on the wrong foot at first and eventually get head over heals for each-other. i enjoy such plots hence King The Land was a great experience for me.

it has everything you could ask for in a rom-com — acting, comic-timing, plot, more than just one love story i.e. side-couple, enemies-to-lovers (kinda?) and I believe it’s a very well-crafted drama.

the OSTs are great, could be better, but maybe that’s just me.

the actors are great, the chemistry between Yoona and Junho hit so hard I actually started wondering if they’re actually in love (lol). Junho depicts the clueless rich guy in love so well.

Lastly I would recommend it to anyone literally, it’s a lighthearted romantic drama. So unless you have a grudge against romance, give it a try!
