Murphey's Law

If I had to explain this drama in one sentence, I would say Murphey's law. If anything could have possibly gone wrong, it went wrong. It became actually laughable; there were so many misunderstandings and confusion. I have never hated yet loved a drama so much. Ugh.... how to explain it. The storyline was predictable and mediocre. The drama started off strong; it had good potential, but it just kept going downhill, which was very disappointing.

The acting in the show is okay—not amazing, but also not terrible. I appreciated the realistic storyline, but the numerous misunderstandings by the end were frustrating. There were just way too many of them.

I really have to mention the female lead (FL). In the 14th episode, she decides not to go with the male lead (ML) on a trip they had planned for a long time. She chooses to do her own thing without consulting him, and later, she breaks up with him for no apparent reason. Then she has the audacity to cry about it! It’s like, girl, you did this to yourself. The ML just accepts it, but I can’t help but wonder why the writers chose to include this storyline. It felt completely unnecessary.

What to do about the childish/b*tchy/oh woe is me FL. There are times when I just can’t stand her and the decisions she makes. First of all, she can’t move on from her first love, which I can understand, but then she goes around playing with other guys’ hearts. It’s frustrating—why is she acting like that? When the male lead returns, she still loves him and confesses her feelings. He declines her confession and asks to be friends, which is totally understandable; you can’t force someone to have feelings for you. Then the cycle repeats—she kisses him, and he discovers his feelings for her. After that, she proceeds to toy with another guy’s heart and emotionally "cheats" on him with the ML. How am I supposed to like this character when she literally causes her own heartbreak and messes with other guys' hearts?
The only sensible thing she did was decide not to date either of the guys and focus on her career. But eventually, she falls for the male lead again and starts dating him. OMW! This woman needs to get her priorities in order and figure out what and who she truly wants in life.

I genuinely appreciate the male lead's character. He is honest, straightforward, and doesn't mince his words, which feels refreshing in the drama world. I admire that he didn’t play with the female lead's emotions; he clearly stated that he didn't have romantic feelings for her and only wanted to be friends. While he exhibits selfish behavior and much of what he does is for his own benefit, he also encourages the female lead to stand up for herself and pursue her dreams. When he did develop feelings for her, he was honest about it. Overall, he is a relatable and solid character.

Also, what is with all this drunken behavior? I swear, in every episode, someone is drunk and acting like an idiot. Please, why is this necessary? Even at business/friendy dinners, people get drunk. For people who are almost 30, the characters in this story feel like a bunch of teenagers.

Even after everything, I still kinda liked this drama, which is a bit surprising. I probably won't re-watch it; well, I might, but the chances are low. I would recommend this drama, but please don't set your expectations too high.

Mixed Feelings

Let's talk about the romance—or the lack of it. For a drama that is classified as a romance, it didn't feel like one. By the end of the series, I found myself more interested in Dae Young and Myung Jeo’s relationship than in that of Shi Jin and Mo Yeon. They seemed like the main couple, while Shi Jin and Mo Yeon felt secondary.
There were almost no truly romantic scenes, and the few that existed were repetitive and dull. Strangely, for someone like me who is a romantic at heart, I was more invested in the action than the romance, which was disappointing. Every interaction between Shi Jin and Mo Yeon felt uninspired and lackluster. By the end of the drama, it seemed like their relationship hadn't progressed at all; in fact, it felt stagnant. Instead of improving as they got to know each other, their connection seemed to deteriorate. The chemistry they had at the beginning just seemed to vanish.

The acting was a mixed bag. Yoo Shi Jin portrayed his character as a boyish yet badass Special Ops Captain, but at times, he came off as more childish than mature. There was a point where it felt like he was acting like a teenager in high school, which was disappointing given the character's potential established at the beginning of the story. Additionally, he took very little initiative in the romance between his character and Dr. Kang.
Mo Yeon, who played the doctor, delivered her role well, but I wasn't particularly fond of her character arc. Her emotions seemed inconsistent; one moment she was angry, and the next, she warmed up again. She would push Shi Jin away, only to run back to him shortly after. This back-and-forth was quite confusing, and I struggled to connect with her as a character. It felt like she couldn't decide what direction she wanted her character to take, which ultimately frustrated me.

In my opinion, the story was well-written. After finishing the drama, I found myself wanting more, particularly regarding the action. I was curious about the events that occurred during the year Shi Jin and Dae Young were missing. I wanted to learn more about what exactly happened to them, how they managed to escape with the help of Shi Jin's "friend", and the impact it had on their mental states. The ending felt rushed and downplayed. Additionally, the reunion between the two couples seemed bland and lacked emotional depth. I also found it strange that Shi Jin got promoted while Dae Young did not. This was really odd for me.

Overall, this drama was enjoyable, but it really fell short in the romance and chemistry department. The action sequences were impressive, and the combination of action, politics, and military elements is what kept me engaged. I don’t think this can truly be classified as a romance drama. The romantic storyline felt quite flat for me, to the point where I found the romance between the secondary leads more compelling than that of the main characters. While I would still recommend this drama, if you are specifically looking for a romantic drama with great chemistry, you might want to look elsewhere.

How do I move On?

Where to begin… This drama absolutely captivated me from the very first moment to the very last. The storytelling was so engaging that I found myself completely immersed in the world of the characters. The romance was depicted with such depth that I was just blown away. I do not know how to move on from this drama...

Every interaction between Hyeon Su and Ji Won crackled with an almost palpable electricity. I found myself holding my breath as I observed the intricate dance of their lives unfolding together, like two magnets drawn closer by an invisible force. Hyeon Su's journey to discovering his deep love for Ji Won was just so amazing to watch; every glance and every tender touch spoke volumes about his feelings. Their chemistry was undeniable, creating countless heart-stopping moments that left me breathless and captivated.
As they faced challenges the dedication they showed for each other was beautiful. It flowed seamlessly through their conversations and gestures, weaving a tapestry of connection that was truly mesmerizing. Witnessing their love story unfold felt surreal as if I were peering into a world where love could transform the ordinary into something extraordinary. Every shared laughter and knowing glance was a testament to the depth of their bond, leaving an indelible mark on my heart.
Although I found myself yearning for even more scenes showcasing their relationship, I still felt a sense of fulfillment with how their romance unfolded. The balance of tension and tenderness in their connection left a lasting impression on me, making this drama an unforgettable experience.

Joon Gi's performance as Hui Seong/Hyeon Su was nothing short of extraordinary. At first, I had my doubts about his character, but as the storyline unfolded and deeper layers of his persona were revealed, he quickly captured my heart and became my favorite character. I found myself completely engrossed in the inner turmoil and complexities of his mind, which Joon Gi translated into a captivating portrayal. His ability to convey a spectrum of emotions made it challenging to express just how masterfully he brought Hyeon Su to life.
Equally impressive was Chae Won's interpretation of Ji Won. Her portrayal breathed life into a character that, while not as intricate as Hyeon Su, held her own significance within the narrative. Ji Won is a multifaceted woman caught in a web of conflicting responsibilities; she grapples with her loyalty as a wife, her deep-seated love for Hyeon Su, and her unwavering commitment as a detective devoted to unveiling the truth. Chae Won's nuanced performance captured this internal struggle beautifully, showcasing her incredible range as an actress.
Overall, I am truly blown away by the remarkable chemistry and depth both Joon Gi and Chae Won brought to their roles. Their performances elevated the story to new heights, and I have no criticisms whatsoever regarding their extraordinary acting skills.

The storyline of this series is absolutely breathtaking! The writer’s creativity and skill are evident, and they truly deserve a medal for crafting such an engaging narrative. I was captivated from the very first scene, and I can honestly say that not a single moment felt boring or predictable. Each twist and turn kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly anticipating what would happen next.
In addition to the gripping plot, the cinematography was impressive. Each scene was filmed with great attention to detail, showcasing stunning visuals that brought the story to life.

Amazing!

I have one word to describe this drama: AMAZING! It has set a new standard for me. Every time I start a new drama, I find myself comparing it to HL. The acting, story, and music are all incredible, and I have no criticisms. This is rare for me, as I usually have high standards and can always find at least something I don’t like.

Duan Jia Xu is my absolute favorite character. In the beginning, he portrays the “brother” role perfectly. Then, when he moves on to the boyfriend role…. Ahhhhhh. He is so hot. Without even saying anything, this guy can make you blush. Don’t get me started on his eyes. This guy is a walking green flag; no, he is a forest of green.

I really love Sang Zhi’s character. She is the epitome of a gentle, kind, and sweet person. She is loyal and strong. I have no complaints about her character. I also love her relationship with Sang Yan (her brother). I have never seen a sibling relationship portrayed so well. I love their bickering. It is so entertaining to watch and reminds me so much of my brother and me.

The chemistry between Sang Zhi and Duan Jia Xu is simply remarkable and unlike anything I’ve seen in a drama before. Every interaction they have lights up the screen, leaving me smiling and giggling at their playful banter and heartfelt moments. The depth of their connection is evident in the way he gazes at her—it’s filled with such warmth and admiration that it makes my heart flutter. If only I could experience a look like that from someone! Their chemistry truly makes the story come alive and just draws you in. ^Swoon^!

This drama is so amazing. Please watch, you will see what I mean—definitely a 10/10 from me.
