Must watch for Unique, Crisp Story & Flawless Acting | Mixed feels for Ending
This drama blends superheroes, con-artists, and time travel in a rom-com—a unique mix that works surprisingly well. Weekly episodes kept me intrigued with their perfect balance of plot, acting, short format, and music. Rated 8 (Great with Few Flaws) because the ending, while fitting the "atypical" theme, left mixed feelings.➥ Strengths:
✦ Unique Story: Fantasy, romance, suspense, comedy, and heavy topics (trauma, depression, death, school bullying, body image) are all given proper attention with satisfying conclusions or hints for the future.
✦ Pace: Loving the short formats. Initial episodes build the foundation, then the plot picks up, giving answers and introducing new suspense/twists.
✦ Acting: Flawless. Main leads have natural chemistry. Supporting characters also shine, offering insights into their own stories/challenges/motives.
✦ Music: "Lee Sora’s I See You" is haunting and perfectly placed, adding to the drama's mysterious and atypical nature (Link Below)
✦ Cinematography: Aesthetically pleasing with well-blended fantasy effects. Visuals of characters' clothes, make-up, and settings are balanced and fitting.
➥ Weak Points:
Ending 5 Minutes: True to the atypical theme, but the implied conclusion leaves mixed feelings. Some may want a more detailed explanation, though the time jump is lovely to watch.
➥ Overall:
Highly recommend binge-watching this drama—a neat package of romance, suspense, superpowers, family/friend support, scams, comedy, time travel, and action. The cinematography and music enhance the viewing experience, making it a delight to watch!

bittersweet and full of powers!
Overall I really liked it!For me it has been one of the best dramas that has come out in 2024
an original script, outstanding performances and very interesting plots
The chemistry of the leading couple was very good ?
in love with the bok ina characters and their plot of friendship, power and possible love interest in the future ?
The ending was bittersweet and confusing... I interpreted it in the way that he was happy and everything fell into place.
I'm sorry I need more chapters, 12 weren't enough for me... apart from that, everything was very good!

Equal parts enjoyable and frustrating
Probably the biggest drawback for The Atypical Family is that the FL is unlikeable at first and then the ML starts becoming more and more unlikeable so I was never excited for them to get together. I was getting frustrated first with the FL's character and then annoyed with the ML because of his callous behaviour towards his daughter. For that reason, I could not properly enjoy the series as a romance. On the plus side, I enjoyed many of the side characters especially the daughter. What an amazing potential she has. I am glad she got a good chunk of the storyline. Else the main plot would have been more boring. I also loved the sister Dong Hee and Grace's back and forth. They livened up the series.
The plot itself was good. Pacing is slow but 12 episodes were good for it.
Personally, the ending was a bit over the top. There was no need for that but if you like fluff then you might enjoy it because if you want logic, it leaves you with many questions. You will just have to accept it at face value. Let's just say I didn't hate it.
Till the end, I wasn't super thrilled with the ML. I find him quite clueless, stubborn having a one-track mind who did just the bare minimum.
The OST is nice. Nothing exceptional that stood out for me.

Not as good as expected
I was really (really REALLY) looking forward to this drama. It was for me THE first half 2024 drama (I was soooo excited to watch it, just couldn’t wait !!).I didn’t read anything about it before watching so I only knew it was about a « super heroes family » who lost their super powers. And also that Chun Woo Hee and Jang Ki Yong were FL and ML.
All episodes were finally available on Netflix, to start watching :)))
First thing I’ve really loved : the 5 stars casting !!! There is not only Chun Woo Hee (in my top 10) and Jang Ki Yong (in my top 10). There is also Ryu Abel (also in my top 10), Park So Yi (she was so great in See you in my 19th life), Claudia Kim (I’ve liked to hate her in GyeongSeong Creature), Oh Man Seo (nice father in SitR), Go Doo Shim (I’ve liked her in Our Blues) Moon Woo Jin & Kim Soo In (they were both excellent as young FL & ML in IOTNBO) !!! So just perfect casting :))))))
About the drama, the first episodes were great. The drama is about super power recovering, intra family relationships, healing, love, scams…. lot of good things/topics.
But to be honest, the more I watched episodes the more I found it boring.
From my point of view, good/big potential of story was not used… it is a shame !
The show has quickly turned into a soft, predictable and a bit boring or insipid one. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying it was not good. There was just a lack of intensity and action (remember, we’re talking about « super heroes » main characters here !!!).
Other point, FL & ML chemistry is not the best one I’ve seen (not the worst one either). I think Jang Ki Yong’s acting skills are better when he portrays « dark » characters (like in My Mister). I didn’t like his « in love » acting. Chun Woo Her’s acting was better but she cannot carry chemistry alone.
To summarize => waste of potential.
I was a bit disappointed because I expected much more from this drama. It is not a bad one nor a good one. Only a average one that won’t be part of my Top 10.
Didn’t pay attention to OST.
No rewatch value for me (I rather rewatch better dramas/movies with main actors, like Be melodramatic, My Mister, Our love story, See you in my 19th life, GyeongSeong Creature or IOTNBO)

Achei a premissa deste drama bem original e interessante.

That perfect 12 episodes drama we long for!!!
While everyone seems to be running after 'Lovely Runner' or 'QOT,' I strongly believe that this show surpasses them both combined. ??✨Despite its finale is so soon , it remains vastly underrated, and getting minimal attention from audiences. It's truly a gem of a series, having impeccable writing throughout.
Every episode has been consistently engaging and compelling, leaving no room for boredom or disappointment. This show proves how just twelve tightly-written episodes can greatly enhance the viewing experience??✨
Although some people complained about it but for me the ending was incredibly refreshing. I personally adored it. It was totally unexpected, beautiful, and filled with deeper meaning.
Anyone who loves phycological romance with fantasy genre shouldn't miss this one.

Honestly I don't know what's worse
All the fatshaming in this kdrama that was so over the top orThe fact that the ML is an alcoholic who doesn't even care about his own daughter at all. They barely talk to the point she can't even open up to him about her problems and especially about her mental health. She clearly has depression and thinks that it's her fault that the mom died. He only tried to comfort her later on, which was super awkward to watch, and honestly he could still care more about her than he did at the end.
You know why he stopped drinking alcohol? Which was by the way completely unrealistic too because he was addicted to alcohol for YEARS but then stops basically over night completely. No, not for his daughter to finally start being a better father NO no, but for a stranger woman. Sure he doesn't stop because of FL right away, but still pretty soon and just for her.
Personally it pisses me off. I have depression myself, I know how hard it can be to take care of yourself when you go through a hard time but he is clearly depressed and alcoholic for over a decade. It's not normal. He should go to therapy. I get it's hard but you can't just not care for your own kid?? In the drama she is around 13 years old which means she is starting puberty so that's when a parent should be there during such an important age. ESPECIALLY when she only has one parent. But it's pretty clear from start til end that his parents raised his daughter, not him, otherwise the dynamics would be different.
His daughter has better dynamics with the female lead, from the start til the end, despite that she is a stranger to her. She is the one who comforted her when she needed it. Who listened to her. Who took care of her once she started living there. Didn't even see her dad cook for her at all, but she did. How comes a woman that they only know a few weeks/months cares more for his daughter than his own dad??
I honestly don't understand how so many people genuinely don't care about this part, it pisses me off and I will give a low rating because it's an important thing in this kdrama not just a side story. Just a big disappointment.

a rollercoaster show but a good one
this show honestly had a bunch of twists in it which made it all the more captivating and entertaining to watch. the only thing I saw as a downside to it was the ending. the ending was fine with it ending as a happy ending. however o feel like they could’ve concluded it better like having them all together again. instead of just having him back. in my opinion I feel like it just wasn’t the right ending. especially since it was a big suprise that they had a kid together. it honestly just should’ve ended with them all together as a big family. we also don’t even get to see I-na when she’s grown up and matured. it just seems a bit inconclusive to me. other then that though it was a great show.Esta resenha foi útil para você?
Greed kills
First and foremost love that fact this show has a different vibe that I have ever seen. Show was completely new with how everything is played out. The show was very promising giving us nothing cliche and more unpredictable scene. The only concerning part comes from FL. Her actions are highly sus but she does justify them with her attachment to the ML. The supporting cast are perfect in this show displaying multiple character development. The show gives different perception of what people do to take advantage of others although it doesn't work. This show just need work on the acting but overall it gives a promising premise to keep going and further see how the family can interact with each other.Esta resenha foi útil para você?

Prepare to be swept away by the heartwarming tale of the atypicalfamily, where every moment surpasses expectations with its unique storyline and beautiful character development. This drama is a delightful blend of love, growth, and family, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that keeps viewers coming back for more. What sets this drama apart is its refreshing and original storyline. With each episode, the drama unfolds new surprises and twists, keeping the audience hooked and eagerly anticipating what's next. It's a breath of fresh air in the world of dramas, offering a truly unique and captivating viewing experience.
The love story is beautifully unique, with a chemistry between the couple that is both heartwarming and genuine. Their relationship unfolds in a way that feels natural and authentic, drawing viewers in and keeping them invested in their journey from beginning to end.
And let's not forget about the acting, which is nothing short of phenomenal. Jang Ki Yong, in particular, shines in his role, bringing his character to life with a depth and authenticity that is truly impressive. His portrayal is so convincing that it's impossible not to be completely engrossed in his character's journey, especially as a father, where his performance is both endearing and inspiring.
In conclusion, the atypical family is a friendly reminder of the power of love, growth, and family. With its unique storyline, beautifully developed characters, and phenomenal acting, it's a must-watch for anyone looking for a heartwarming and uplifting drama experience.

Sister and ML Daughter are carrying this show ??♂️?
dropped after ep 4 , the FL just pisses me off so much , like how is this family so stupid and the sister is the only sane one and seeing her for who she really is ??♂️ I can't for the life of me get through this , the sister and the ML daughter are carrying the show ??Esta resenha foi útil para você?

My rating might have been higher with less episodes...possibly
What I loved:-Park So Yi as Bok I Na. She is a terrific young actress, I've loved her in everything I've seen her in, and am looking forward to her growth as an actress.
-The youth romance of I Na. I would have liked to see more of them.
-Oh Man Seok's character of Gi Ju's father. What a calm, warm and lovely character.
What I didn't like (not in any particular order):
-I have liked Jan Ki Yong in other works, but I didn't think he did a good job here. He didn't look depressed, he looked drugged. I felt like he was just moving through the drama. I got no emotion from him.
-Chun Woo Hee looks just like Song Hye Kyo to me. Since I'm often not a fan of SHK, I struggled.
-The timeline was all sorts of a mess. For me, the fact that she was there showed that she survived in the past. No matter how they tried to explain it, it didn't make any sense to me.
-Did the ML and FL hate each other IRL? They had absolutely no chemistry with one another and didn't like each other for so long, I never bought them as a couple.
-Can we talk about amazingly bad haircuts of Gwi Ju and Grace?
-The weight loss story for Gwi Ju's sister. We see some of her struggle, but her massive weight loss was overnight.
-Pretty much all the characters other than the couple I mentioned. Her family (and she) were awful! I get that they were swindlers, but I never really saw them turn around until the last episode. Same for his family. I just didn't like them.
-Repetitive, repetitive, repetitive script. Enough with the flashbacks.
For me (please remember, this is just my opinion), I was extremely disappointed in a show that I was so looking forward to watching.
