Vic Zhou is a handsome, talented actor, but he could not save this drama. It was utterly boring with the characters frozen as flashbacks played for minutes at a time. The first episode starts with 2 children meeting in a hospital where the girl has been taken after a bus accident. Although no one can figure out why, it left her a mute. She can see and hear, but can't speak. That is the premise for the drama. Let's think about this for a minute. Millions of people are in accidents and are there mutes walking around using sign language?
The children agree to meet 13 years later. During the 13 years of absence they continue to love each other after only meeting for a few days, another absurdity.
The writer then uses continual contrived events to bring the two together 13 years later. For example, Wei Yi's car breaks down and Shem Shem just happens to be driving the same road at the same moment. Or Shem Shem is on a bus and Wei Yi gets on the very same one at the same time.
Around Episode 6 (this is not a spoiler, it is in the summary above) Wei Yi discovers he is dying. For the next 13 episodes the drama is set in mourning. The mood, tempo, and music slow down even more. There are no big surprises, everything is predictable.
I always cry at melodramas, but not this one. It was a relief at the end. If you want more of Vic Zhou, watch Mars or Meteor Garden.

I never did manage to understood the LMH appeal, but, even I can say that he is best suited to play this role comparing with other Korean actors. He completely owned it(except for the perm..that was dreadful and just diminished his good looks a bit).
One thing that did partly save this show for me is Kim Bum.

I rarely shed tears when watching dramas, but I already sink on the 1st ep. ;(
The story itself is quite tragic, yet the drama leads us to something more touching rather than sad.. The characters are very strong, including the supporting roles.
This is more of a slice of life drama, following the story of the murderer, the victim, and how the incident affects the people around them..
Romance between the victim's brother and the murderer's sister makes the story beautiful. Eita is a very great actor, portrayed an introvert guy drench in guilt, and how he changed from a useless guy with non-attractive appearance to a clean-cut man, haha.. This is the first time I watch the female lead's acting, and I'm quite impressed with how she can easily shed tears in every moment :)
Overall this is a must-watched drama for them who likes drama about life and about moving on from a tragic past.. Excellent story!

It was definitely the two leads that kept me watching. Jun Ji Hyun & Kim Soo Hyun played off of each other very well. Do Min Joon, though stoic most of the time, was a character with some unexpected depth. Chun Song Yi was the epitome of the spoiled Hallyu star on the surface, but was surprisingly likable, relatable, and hilarious! I had so many literal lol moments during the drama because of Jun Ji Hyun's performance. I was also impressed by Kim Soo Hyun's ability to pull off playing a character with so much maturity considering how much younger he is. To me, the best parts of the drama were when they were together, although I didn't cry once for them (and I can be a big crybaby). I was much more amused by them than really emotionally invested.
The supporting cast was also very good, but the other storylines just weren't as strong, and sometimes felt more like filler. The rest of the drama was pretty standard (devious villains, jealous friends, family greed, unrequited love, a crushable second lead...), and not as intriguing as the main couple. Still, I was entertained the whole time while watching, even during slower parts during the last few episodes. I also had no idea what the ending would be, and really liked what it turned out to be, even though it was slightly unsatisfying. The story does end with some questions left unanswered (like who in the world were they talking to? lol.), but I think the writers answered most of the ones that really counted.
Overall I really liked this drama for what it was and enjoyed watching it, but It never gave me that 'can't wait for the next episode feeling'. It's certainly not the best drama I've seen, yet there are aspects of this drama that I liked more than most. I'm not sure If I would rewatch more than a few select clips, but It's possible that I might watch it again one day, although I'm honestly not sure if I could handle listening to "You ARE my destiny..." anymore.
If you're generally a fan of romances about 2 people reluctantly falling in love, then I definitely recommend this one. Just think of the alien thing as a bonus.
***update*** I recently rewatched it and I was still very entertained so I bumped up my initial rating a little. Yes, "You ARE my destiny" is still annoying!

I went into this with high hopes. The summary, ratings and reviews all seemed to indicate that this would be a most epic drama experience... It. Was. Not. Don't be fooled by the hype like I was.Let's start with the good:
The concept of the story was really good. There aren't that many dramas that deal with this fairly recent period of Korean history so I was interested to see how the material would be handled. Plus, everyone loves a hero with a cause.
Joo Won in a suit, preferably when he was walking away. Why? Because I'm a perv and he wore the heck out of those suits, that's why.
The first 10 or so episodes of the series laid the groundwork for a truly epic story. I couldn't stop watching those and finished them pretty quickly.
The rest:
Setting and plot:
If you're thinking about watching this drama to experience how Koreans lived and coped with the Japanese occupation, don't waste your time on this drama. The period/setting of is a backdrop to an overdone and poorly developed and relatively flat love "triangle" or square, depending on how you look at it. Very little is actually dedicated to what the occupation was really like for the average Korean but interestingly, you got a pretty clear idea what the rich got from selling their country.
The imbalance in the presentation actually detracted from the overall story since much of the story's conflict and resolution revolves around liberation from Japanese oppression. Don't get me wrong, the issues of comfort women, taxes, introduction of Shinto temples, name changes, etc. are introduced but few of them are really explored in a way that would make anyone really understand why the liberators absolutely had to fight to get their country and culture back.
Writing:
The writing overall was really sub-par. In addition to the glazing over of critical story points, a *great* portion of the drama is spent on the recurrence of a single conflict. If you thought the poisonings in Faith were bad, ladies and gents, you don't want to know who Oh Mok Dan is. In the interest of not posting spoilers, that's all I'll write. Don't say you weren't warned though.
Acting:
I've read quite a few reviews and comments that the acting is exceptional. Maybe it is and the actors were just working within the constraints of poorly-developed characters. I'll concede to that premise. However, the result for the viewer is still bad acting. I lost track of the screams of frustration, smirks and the scrunched up faces with no tears or one tear from one eye instead of real crying.
Overall:
I really wanted to love this show. However, there were just too many things about it that I really hated and the longer I watched, the more I hated it. I was so unsettled by my hatred of it that I waited a day or two before I wrote this review. Thinking about how bad it was is making me angry again that I wasted my time on it. The writers had 28 episodes to fully develop all the characters, conflicts and goals and the first part of the show set them up well to do that but they chose not to. Instead, they hyper-focused on a single conflict and left too many points underdeveloped or unexplored. It was irritating to say the least.

That being said, I don't think that it was the actors who were the problem. Yoon Eun Hye is my favorite actress, she's cute, isn't annoying, and can cry well. Although I wasn't a big fan of Kang Ji Hwan (I'm not sure if it was his voice or age, but I didn't find him too attractive), he cried on cue too and was very believable in his actions. Sung Joon was cute in the beginning when he had a good script, but kind of became annoying from the script change. He really had no purpose afterwards, and neither did the whole side girl thing or any of the story in the first half with the contract and everything. I felt like the new writers just tossed the old plot away and started a new uninteresting story altogether. Sorry, back to the acting (I can't seem to get over the script change). The friend was a good actress. I loved how believable her jealousy was with the chin quiver and everything. The aunt was pretty (just thought I'd throw that in there - it's hard for women to age that beautifully >___>). To sum it up, the acting was a 9 for me because I think they did very well to try to make such a cruddy script as entertaining as it could be with their actions.
Though some people say that the music was childish, I thought that the ending song in the first half was actually catchy. It was edgy and fit the whole "try to make your friend jealous/ in your face" concept. I also liked one of the slower songs at the end (This is Really Goodbye - M to M). While I do agree that some of the background music just faded into the background and seemed unnoticeable, I felt that the people in charge of the music for this show did a good job matching the music to the mood.
Obviously since this show went downhill, the re-watch value for this is a 1 for me. Overall I'd give it a 6 since my favorite actress is in it and the beginning was entertaining. I wouldn't recommend this to people even though it had a good beginning because it'll just lead to disappointment in the end since the story isn't really finished, but rather, they give you a new and bland love story.

Drama Special Season 3: The Wedding Planner

Story: Great example of how uncleared misunderstandings can destroy relationships. I thought the conservative view of Koreans will prevail at the end, but sadly, it didn't. It's weird that I loved the epilogue but hated the ending.
Acting/Cast: I came across the drama because of Yin Ji Han, and was surprised Hong So Hyun is also casted, whom I also liked so I gave it a go. I loved both of them, and really, I cried because they did a good job on their roles.
Music: I don't remember any standout song or music.
Rewatch Value: It was heartbreaking for me so, no.
Overall: With all these hints, I think you get what to expect at the drama. I'm not too fond of heartbreaking romances that's why I didn't gave it a high score but it is worth watching if you have free have time to spend and of course you want a moment to fangirl over Jin Yi Han. :D

This drama, man. It's so hard to put into words what made it so compelling, so original. But I can assuredly say that in my fairly limited experience with dramas (KoD is only my 59th), I have not watched another drama that has made me feel the way this drama has.
I was very much against watching this drama. After my disappointment with Prime Minister and I, I didn't really want to watch another drama with such a huge gap in the leads. Not because I care about things like that, but because I have noticed that in dramas with older men/younger girls, the romance is very light on the skinship aspect. And I'm not gonna lie, KoD didn't have nearly enough intimate moments, but somehow that made it so much better. In addition to my hesitancy over the romance aspect, for some reason I got it into my head that this drama was set in the early 1900s, when it is just the drama they are working on that is set in that time period.
I am not the type of person who talks to the screen very much, but with King of Dramas, one second I was screaming in frustration at the characters and the next throwing my hands up and cheering for every good thing that happened to our team. And that is the brilliance of this drama. It draws you in and makes you feel like you are a part of the story.
Now because I feel like I could go on and on forever about this drama, I also would probably end up spoiling a couple things in my eagerness, so I am going to break the rest of this review down into the score areas. It's the only way I can manage an attempt at brevity.
Acting/Cast: BRILLIANT. Everyone was so uniquely suited to their roles, and they all had such amazing chemistry together! It really did feel like you were growing and maturing along with the characters, Anthony especially. Every positive move he made, you couldn't help but feeling proud of him. Siwon as Kang Hyun Min was adorable, it kind of reminded me of a younger version of Dokko Jin from The Greatest Love. The character of Lee Go Eun was a little hard to relate to at first, just because she was so wide-eyed and naive. Luckily, you start to identify with her more and more as the story progresses.
Music: I am not someone who pays attention to music much, but I did love Big Baby Driver's song, it really fit the theme of the drama really well.
Rewatch: While I think this drama was amazing, I think a lot of it is un-rewatchable. While it wasn't as emotionally exhausting as a melodrama or a tear-jerker drama, it certainly ran you through the ringer emotion wise. One second, you are so anxious you think you might jump out of your skin, and the next you are smiling stupidly over an act of loyalty, and back to being anxious the next. That's the only reason that I think it would be hard to rewatch a lot of it.
Story: Just amazing. Seriously. The pacing, the romance, the bad guys. It was all just so expertly blended together. I usually would change a lot about dramas if I had the chance, but with King of Dramas, even when it wasn't perfect, I didn't want to change it. It was the imperfections that somehow helped you grow along with the drama, if that even makes any sense.
Seriously, if you haven't watched this drama (and actually made it to the end of this rambling review), watch it right now! It's definitely something all of us drama lovers should watch. You won't regret it!

Since i am a big fan of Sports in series i had to give it a shot!.
Let me start about the cast which is totally build of new actors from which it is the first drama they made. The acting was So-So and you could clearly see that some of them are still lacking.
The story is about a player Kang-San who is struggling his ways trough the bad era to become a successful basketball player. In the very first episode its starting of pretty good and tempt you to watch more episodes.Right after the first episode its becoming insanely slow and very dramatic,so much that its clearly not only about basketball anymore but about powers of the japanese goverment. Finally after the first 4-5 episodes the ball starts rolling and you get some basketball action which where i was waiting for.It was a very short happy time i can tell you and it went back into the pace of Govermental powers and betrayal. In that part i was very dissapointed and this series lacks allot of sport action!
However it still became kinda interesting at some point and was worth to follow trough with it and also became kinda fun to watch from episode 5 on till the end i would say.I enjoyed it atleast.
The romance in this series isn't as bad as in the comments i read but WAYYYY TOO DRAMATIC! The people cry way to much and at some point you get really sick of the over dramatic reactions and that is then exxactly the point where the acting was not so good. Its really irritating when someone Talk-Stop-talk,wait3sec and talk again!.The first few times you wont notice this but at the end of the series you will get irritated a bit and just wanna skip that part.As end-result i would say its a bearable romance but i wouldn't wanna see more of it.
I'm not going to spoil any of the series and i wont but the ending! OMFG!
i dunnow whether you would call it an ending xD.So i would highly suggest you watch it yourself and decide upon it haha.
I know the series was cut-down to 18 episodes and would leave out some after-part,but they could have atleast putted some effort in finishing it of which they clearly didn't i am not sure whether they ever will continue this series or just leave it as it is.
Conclusion: For the people who cant decide to watch it yes or no? i would say just watch it because it ain't as bad as the people say and for sure have some enjoyable time in the series however if you are looking for hardcore basketball action just stay away from the series and try to watch a good sports-anime!.

Story: I felt like this could have been longer- if there was more plot and back-story involved "Another Parting" could have definitely been a normal 16 episode drama. AP felt too short and choppy- there wasn't enough reasoning behind certain events and actions, and it felt like I was being jerked around. The overall effect was entertaining, but the whole thing gave me whiplash. The story itself was original and new, with surprising bits of comic relief thrown in.
Acting: No surprises as far as Seo In Guk was concerned- I already knew he could act. I've never seen Wang Ji Won before, but she had nice chemistry with him and carried her character well. The other characters had so little screen time they were practically nonexistent, so I don't think I need to comment there.
Music: Since this drama was less than an hour long, total, the music wasn't really a huge part of it. I can vaguely recall some ballads, but that's about all I can remember.
Rewatch Value: As of now, I don't really have much reason to, but I definitely do want to skim over it again in the future.
Overall: A bit strange and choppy, but still interesting enough. I'd recommend "Another Parting" if you have some spare time or really love the cast.
