when i was fifteen  i sat through the film love exposure and started branching away from just watching asian horror films and started watching sion sono films, and then meiko kaji films like stray cat rock, sasori 701, lady snowblood, etc. originally i wanted to check out more "pinky violence" exploitation films but it was a bit harder to find those at the time, so i somehow ended up watching tokusatsu tv shows like kamen rider w.

after that, i finally watched bruce lee's films and then branched out to other hong kong martial arts movies. i kindof wish that martial arts movies were still the default nerdy interest in asian media, because i've only enjoyed about 3 anime shows that have come out after the mid-2000s. 

 i don't have that much time to watch tv/films in general so i don't have impressive d/hr/min statistics.  if i watch something that can be logged on here its usually a random japanese or hong kong movie from before 1985. my 'favorite decade' for movies is probably 1970s and for tv its probably the 1990s.  i've watched a few modern "bl" shows but if the overall production (editing, screenplay, acting) is just terrible (which has been the case in many shows) i won't waste too much of my time on them. most of my 'dropped' series are bl series.

i love watching a film or tv show that was 're-discovered', i am extremely appreciative of the work done byfilm preservation entities, and work done by individuals. i'm vaguely interested in things that would be considered "lost media" like the kpop film "age of peace". however, lost media really comes down to what a random 20 year old "chronic internet addict" in america/europe would consider to be important. paul naschy's fake werewolf movie and the visuals to a second doctor episode matter much more to that internet zeitgest than, for example, anything that was ever produced in cambodia.
