Ending explains a lot of faults

Throughout this drama, I saw a lot of theories, a lot of praises and complaints. For me the drama overall, was really fun to watch. It was frustrating, intriguing, and saddening. Before the ending, my main complaints were that there are a lot of plot holes and a lot of rules with the game that didn’t make sense and weren’t well thought out.

I had a lot of confusion with how the mafia rules differed from the citizens and what could or couldn’t have been done. In the beginning, when the first night comes, everybody drops to the floor, including the mafia but later, on in the drama, you see that they aren’t affected by the bell anymore. and you can say that they were affected on the first night bells because it was the first night and I agree that they were just getting into playing the game and understanding the rules of themselves so that’s why everybody fell asleep the first night.

Another plot hole that I noticed was how people could die. Even after watching the drama, the rules to me where 1-mafia could only kill one person per night, and that one person had to be a unanimous agreement. 2-one person would die after the voting that took place during the day, based on a majority vote. 3-you would die if you broke any of the following rules (leaving the area, not voting, killing without agreement) by the end of the drama a lot of what I thought were the rules kind of ended up being forgotten.

In the last two episodes when Jin Da Beom kills Im Eun Chan & Choi Mina I was confused why he hadn’t broken a rule because I thought that you could only kill one person per night and it had to be agreed-upon. Even if the last two mafia agreed to kill everybody, wouldn’t it still break the rules because they killed more than one person. You could say that technically JDB didn’t kill IEC because he died from suffocation with a bag over his head. To me that seems like a grey area where I’m not sure if that’s my lack of understanding the rules or just a polt hole from the writers. There are many more instances in which situations happen that have plot holes or are left with confusion because of the rules that I thought prior. But I think the ending really brings everything together and closes all those plot holes.

The end of the drama is basically that the game that they have been playing is a literal game and it’s a simulation game that they have to play over and over and over again. They’re playing this game because of their classmate Park SeEun’s parents who want to get revenge on their class for the rumor that was spread causing her suicide. The fact that the game that they have been playing is an actual game can explain why things happen that we don’t necessarily understand or can’t find answers to. That’s because in any game that we play they are going to be errors, bugs, messed up codes, etc.. Oh Jung Won is the perfect example as to why everything plays out perfectly. Her character ends up being a programmed character into the game that ends up having some sort of error that allows her to have feelings and emotions, and make conscious decisions. So anything that has happened prior to the ending that seemed weird or confusing can basically be explained by the fact that it is a game it’s a simulation there there might be an error in the code or a bug that needs to be fixed which allows the drama to be imperfect, and have things that we might not understand.

I think this ending really rounded the whole drama into this scary yet intriguing story that can be more messed up than the murders that are going on and can have many of outcomes because of the possibility of an error.

✧I could say a lot more about this drama, but that would take a lot of writing. But if anything about this drama seems interesting to you. I would highly recommend giving it a watch. It can be gruesome at times, but there are parts of the story that are very genuine and heart wrenching.

Intriguing yet frustrating, worth the watch

To start off I had a really hard time starting this drama. I watched the first two episodes when they aired. I’ve only now completed it as a posting this. The first two episodes are pretty good, I had a hard time understanding what was going on to the point where I had to rewatch episode 1 twice. Even on my second viewing, I was still kind of confused, which is why I stopped watching on the second ep. That being said, if you’re anything like me, and it takes a while to gain your attention. Please give this drama until episode 3 to fully bring you in.

For the plot of this drama I think it’s really solid. There are some things that could have been adjusted, but I think that’s all due to how the characters acted and their motives. I don’t have much to say on the story most of my worries and problems with the story are from the characters. I will say though, the ending being opened for a season two made me annoyed, but also curious on how a season two would play out. as well as whether they will fully develop the characters that needed improvement.

I think the cast are super awesome. They all did a great job at acting and you can see that by how annoyed and frustrated I got with their characters. But my biggest complaint is how the adults in the story seemed more childish than the characters that were supposed to be the children. Almost every adult character acted in ways that I would think that the teenage characters would act. I know the situations that they are being put in were very strenuous and emotional, but for the two main teenage characters to have more composure then the adults that were police was very jarring to me. I think that this was very prevalent in any scene that had action, all the adults seem to be very hesitant an not in a safety or percautious way. The way they acted almost seemed like they didn’t know what they were doing and they didn’t have a protocol to follow. The perfect example of this is during the Hospital scene that situation was very difficult to figure out a solution, but in that moment, all the adults seem to not know how they should go about things. Although the teenage characters weren’t very prominent in that scene, they still seem to have more composure, emotionally, and with their ways of going about things. You can say that the two teenage characters have so much composure, because of trauma and having to grow up early and I can agree 100% with that. The things that they had to go through and witness, they are most definitely going to be very mature for their age. But for the adults that have had the same experiences and more, while being in position of power, acting more childish was very frustrating to watch.

Besides how the adult characters acted, I don’t have any more complaints. It was a really solid drama with a good plot and frustrating characters. But with the content of the drama, you almost expect to be frustrated, which is what made everything that happened in the last two episodes very impactful.

✧If you’re contemplating watching the drama or not, I would say go for it 100%. It’s 12 episodes super short in drama world and it has a really intriguing and emotional story that pulls you in and makes you want to know more.

Mixed feelings on this drama…

When thinking of how I could describe this drama in one sentence, all I could think about is how difficult and confusing it was to formulate a sentence. It a really good drama in the middle. Both the beginning and end are harder to watch to me. Not because of the content, but because of the atmosphere and character choices.

For me personally what made the beginning and end hard to watch was Choi Min Young, I don’t know if her character was meant to be so frustrating. But every time she was present, I found myself uninterested in the way she would go about things and her character development. That’s why for me the middle is the best part, her not being there drove the story even more, but also allowed the other characters to do things freely without her holding them back. An example of what made me frustrated, and also showed that she was kind of a hindrance to the story was when she first wakes up from being in a coma she starts pulling strings, as if she has been there the whole time. She seemed like a very controlling character that had no reason to be as controlling as she was. Maybe that’s just her personality and she’s very strong headed but for her to wake up and tell her sister “we’re gonna go back to normal” “you can’t do this anymore” etc.. was something that made her not only unlikable, but made the drama harder to watch.

Besides CMY making the drama herder to watch, how slow, some of the characters were in making fast paced decisions made me disconnect from the story that was being told. I think for the content and situations that they were in a lot of the time you had to be really fast at what you’re going to do next otherwise they would be repercussions. Yoo Seong Pil for instant did this a lot and maybe because he is a police officer you could tell those times where he would pause and think everything out. But he would do that during scenes in which you can’t pause. You could say that he’s acting this way because of the drugs, but those are also drugs that enhance thinking so it’s very weird of him to take so much time to do something. Like when Seo Ho Su’s mom was having a seizure I couldn’t tell if he was being strategic in not helping her or just froze in fright. Either way from what we know of him he’s a smart cunning person you would think that in that situation he would be on top of things without hesitation.

Despite of the characters lacking storylines, my favorite part of the drama was in the high school. There’s a lot that Choi Soo Young could work with, and I really enjoyed her dynamic with Song Jin Woo. Those two characters were the highlight of the whole drama for me. I liked how she could be funny at times with him and he would be serious but also kinda let his guard down. If drama has a season two I would love to see how the characters develop more because there was a lot of them that needed background stories because I couldn’t understand why they did what they did or how they got to where they are.

✧Overall the dramas is pretty good, if you have time to watch it, please do so. But it’s also not a drama that is a must watch. My opinion the best episodes are 4-16 so if you don’t mind how the drama kinda drags in the other seven episodes, then give it a watch. I think this drama would improve with a season two that explains why the characters are who they are. In the end it was a harder drama to finish, but at least I was able to complete it.
