Both shows are interested in different kinds of romantic pairings and why they work or don't work.

Can Get Married has a couple going through a contentious divorce and custody battle; an older couple falling in love; and two couples in their 20s who form somewhat of a love square, with the central couple facing challenges (mostly parental disapproval stemming from class differences) to their desire to get married.

My Merry Marriage is also interested in why and how some romantic pairings work and others don't. The central love square features two plutocrats/chaebols and two white collar/working class people, and in the first sixth of the show (I'm writing this as episode 23 airs) we see one chaebol x white collar couple break up to form two couplings where their socioeconomic backgrounds align—but we know these are not the endgame couples of the show. So like in Can We Get Married the question being posed is how will these people (Gonghee and Dansoo, Mingi and Jina) be able to overcome the social obstacles to their romances and be together?

Both have a slice-of-life sitcom feel about them, and both feature a chaebol living with a family pretending to be middle/working class. I Live in Cheongdam-dong is a proper sitcom and therefore incorporates situational comedy as well as screwball and slapstick, while My Merry Marriage is of course more influenced by the daily drama formula, so it has tragic pasts and family mystery; but both are invested in portraying a light tone, and I wouldn't be surprised if My Merry Marriage were influenced by I Live in Cheongdam-dong.

Here is Sunny Again Tomorrow's synopsis: Ha Nee has been working in part-time jobs after graduating from high school. One day, she gets a job at a TV home shopping channel but gets fired from that job. She then decides to start her own fashion company and becomes involved with Han Kyul, a merchandiser for the TV home shopping channel.
