A must watch
Before I started watching the series, I didn't really know what to think. Every review I've seen by far was that it was supposedly "the best kbl so far" so I decided to give it a try, and I can most definitely tell you I wasn't disappointed at all, it stood up to the reviews and even surpassed my expectations. I'd definitely recommend it.
I don't have much experience with reviewing so I'll just divide it into two categories, what I absolutely liked and what I found odd.
WHAT I LIKED:
- The production was really good, in comparison to most small series, it's most definitely outstanding. I like the way it doesn't feel that rushed at all, and it's noticable if you compare it to other kbl series. Bonus points go to episodes actually being 20+ minutes and not barely 8-10.
- The acting was, in my opinion, amazing. It made the series more enjoyabe.
- I like the set of boundaries between characters such as when to touch and kiss, as well as Jaeyoung actually giving Sangwoo time to think and not forcing him and saying he must be with him.
- Side characters not being completely ignored, love the way it isn't focused on the main characters 24/7 and that we can actually see the friendships more than just a few seconds of screentime - I loved every scene where Yuna would talk to Jaeyoung and Sangwoo + being pretty much straightforward. It's also quite new to me to see a sapphic character and I love it!
- Absolutely loved the way Jaeyoung adjusted to Sangwoo's way of thinking and finding a way to communicate with him, specifically all the 2 week trial scenes.
- I like the way plot wasn't ignored. The main idea of Sangwoo looking for a designer, making a game and fixing errors was present throughout all episodes.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE
- The stalker-like behaviour from Jaeyoung at the beginning of the series, just because he had to retake the semester? I get that he was mad at Sangwoo for not being able to go abroad (which was his own fault) but going out of your way to find out what Sangwoo likes, doesn't like and all the info about him is beyond weird. As well as constantly sticking around Sangwoo even though he stated that he wasn't too comfortable with him being around almost all the time.
- The kiss while Jaeyoung was sleeping. Even though we later find out that Jaeyoung wasn't completely asleep later, you don't go around kissing people who are, especially without clear mutual liking towards one another, it's creepy.
Overall, definitely an improvement in the bl industry, I wish to see more series as well done as this one.
