Disappointed
I loved this show. The first 10 episodes drew me in and I loved every minute. I was always looking forward to the next episode and couldn’t wait until Netflix would air the next episode. Then it went downhill. I saw a comment that said there would be no plot if the characters would just talk to each other properly. Now this is totally true but I didn’t mind because I enjoyed the show.Episode 11. The most annoying worst episode I have ever watched. This is where the previous comment especially comes into play. The lack of communication was so god awful I almost quit watching. (I apologize for summarizing but I need to make my point). Noh Ae Jung refuses to tell Oh Dae Oh why she left him even though he begs her and when it is finally revealed to the audience, it's all just a misunderstanding. Noh Ae Jung claims that her and her daughter didn’t need Oh Dae Oh yet her daughter is trying so hard to find out who her father is and won’t ask her mother for help because she knows she won’t tell her. A couple episodes later when the daughter finds out, she says that her and her mother are better off alone because he left them WHICH HE DIDN’T and Noh Ae Jung doesn’t do anything to correct her! I just cannot believe it. Then Joo Ah Rin wants to destroy Noh Ae Jung because Oh Dae Oh won’t love her back? It’s not her fault??!? But she blames her?!? Just take the L and move on! And it isn’t just them, ALL the characters had just the worst communication I have ever seen. Even at the end with the controversy of the movie being made. Just no proper communication at all.
And to me, I just felt really bad for Oh Dae Oh. This poor dude got dumped for (in his view) no reason, actually got dumped because this girl he didn't like wouldn't leave him alone, his friend ruined the chance for him to resolve the issues with his girl, finds out that he was considered the bad guy in the relationship, finds out he has a kid, kid doesn’t want him in her life because he apparently abandoned her and her mother, gets blamed that he wrote a book for "hating" on Noh Ae Jung when she actually broke his heart, I could go on.
Also, just a side note. One thing that really pissed me off was that Noh Ae Jung’s hair was always messy. Now I don’t mind having “realistic” hair that gets messy after running or after waking up. But her hair was just always messy, like that was just part of her personality. No one else had hair like her and it irritated me so much. Maybe there was a good reason for that and I apologize if there is one, right now I just hate it.
I will not lie, the first 10 episodes I liked a lot, loved it actually. I would even say that they might've been some of my favorite episodes of all the dramas I've watched. Even when other people didn’t like them, I did. But just way to mess it up so badly. I mean, I guess there was no other way to write the rest of the show. Doesn’t mean it didn’t suck. The ending wasn’t that good either, not satisfying at all. Don’t waste your time. The only reason I’ve rated this as high as I have was because I enjoyed the first few episodes a lot.

Sooo... yes I did compare it to the drama. How could I not? I’ve already finished the show so there is no way I could not compare them. The story was definitely rushed as a lot of things are explained later or in a weird flashback that lasts for around 4 minutes. When watching it, I found it amazing how they condensed 4 episodes into 10 minutes for the movie. I originally thought that they would cut some information (such as Mo Yuan and everything before that) but nooo. They just had to cram everything into the movie. And I mean everything (except for a couple small things).
I saw this from another review and I completely agree-- if a person had not watched the show before, it would be complicated and confusing to understand. For someone like me, who has completed the show, it would be easier. When I was watching the movie I always wondered where I was, I'd figure it out and then things would make sense. I suppose this is why I'm rating it higher than it should probably be.
The acting was fine, it was more of the casting that was my problem. I wasn’t a huge fan of actors portrayal of Bai Qian and Ye Hua. If anything I believe it was their looks that was the problem. They looked too young, considering they are supposed to be thousands of years old (Ik it works differently but still) you’d think that they would look a bit older. I’d especially highlight Bai Qian, 1. She’s older. 2. Her personality at the time the film takes place in was this strong woman who likes drinking, a lot. She also as this attitude of not taking crap from anyone. I could not see Crystal Liu as this woman. I fully believe this is due to the fact that she looks perfect for a role as a high school student in a romance drama. Not her fault ofc, I just would've preferred a different casting decision.
Not to mean that I wasn’t entertained. It was actually an interesting movie to watch. Would I recommend it? No. Rewatch it? No. But I didn’t think it was bad. That's why I gave it a 7 (a 7 for a movie is average in my books).

My reviews are not usually long but for this drama.... I have a lot to say.The overall story was a good concept. There was a parallel universe with some minor/major differences and a portal between the two, not a bad idea. The characters, however, the characters and their relationship... not very good. The main romance has got to be one of the worst relationships I've ever seen in a drama. Their chemistry was awful. They never got a chance to develop an actual believable relationship. When she found out that everything he was saying was true, she immediately fell for him. Like?!?!!? In the beginning, she is seen as a strong female that won't take crap from no one, yet here she is falling head over heels for this man she was literally hours before, calling crazy. I also cannot count how many times there was a scene where she was crying because she missed him and then he shows up and there's a slow-mo scene of them running into each other's arms. Normally, that would be cute. Here, it's cringy and repetitive. The only chemistry they had, was at the very last episode. In my opinion of course.
Main couple aside, the whole arc of time travel was also awful. Surprise surprise. Time travel is not that difficult to understand, but I can see why it's hard to write about time travel. Even though it is difficult to write about, that is no excuse for how the drama played out. To me, it was just lazy writing.
The Prime Minister! Oh, they did her dirty. I never hated her, I never thought that she was a bad guy when it was so obvious that that's what they were trying to push. To me, she just seemed like a person who had goals and would do a lot to achieve them. I didn't like the ending they gave her, it was a bit disappointing. She could've easily been cut from the drama and it would be exactly the same.
Product Placement! There was a crap ton of product placement and I think everyone knows that. I personally think that product placement in dramas is hilarious, it always gives me a good laugh when I see how the writers wrote the product in. This drama, though, had soooo many product placements. I've seen a lot of people complain about it, and while yes, it was at times annoying, people gotta make money! Maybe they were greedy! Maybe they had a reason! Maybe they didn't! Oh well! I wouldn't say that it absolutely ruined my watching experience, it really isn't that big of a deal. But I know it is for some people, so if you hate that sort of stuff, don't even bother watching this one. I don't think I've ever seen another drama with this much product placement.
The best positive! Joyeong and Eunseob easily the best characters in the show. They're complete opposites but are still equally as lovable. You got Joyeong who's firm, has nice slick hair, and speaks formally. Then there's Eunseob. He has messy hair, is very fragile, and has one of my favorite accents ever. I freaking love it when he speaks. Now THEY had personality.
The soundtrack was beautiful and played at the right time. Sometimes it would make the scene 100% more dramatic or emotional and it was fantastic. The Fantasia of Another Dimension was incredible and makes me want to cry whenever I hear it and Orbit by Hwasa has got to be one of my favorite kpop songs of all time. There was one song that seemed out of place and I didn't like it at all. But that would be the only one.
One last thing. I believe that the cast was great, great choices with great actors. However, most of the characters were bland. It doesn't change the fact that they are good actors, but it didn't save the drama either.
I don't believe that this is one of the worst dramas ever. Did it suck at times? Yes. However, there were some times when I was looking forward to the next episode. And there were even times in which I enjoyed watching it. That's why I gave it a 6.5. To me, 6.5 is not bad, it's not good either. Equally bad and equally good in my opinion. And while I give it a 6.5, I would definitely not recommend this drama to anybody.
