Everyone knows there's a curse on sequels. Most times they're not good or anywhere as good as the first. Suishou no Kodou really doesn't break the curse it just lessens it a bit. It was still suspenseful and the murder mystery interesting, it's just something was missing. Or, perhaps it was that I found the lead character, Kisragi Toko, a little too much to take in some scenes. I really did want to shake and slap her a few times.
Since this is the 2nd drama in the series, I'm opting to write a full review when I finish all 3 series and the side story. By the way, you don't need to have seen Ishi no Mayu to enjoy Suishou no Kodou, but it helps explain the relationship between certain characters and Kisaragi's behavior.
