Zhang Wuji & Zhao Min!?

I really like Zhao Lusi and after watching the adorable trailers, I decided to give this drama a try and I am so glad I did! I will definitely be checking out Lin Shen’s other works. He’s a very charismatic actor who deserves more opportunities and recognition. Together, they had sizzling chemistry! It’s unfortunate that some people are passing up this drama because of the age gap, but it’s hardly noticeable and there is absolutely no creep factor about it in the drama.

Trust me, the romance was sweet and so incredibly funny! Lu Jin wasn’t lying when he said that Zhou Zhiruo didn’t exist in his story. From the moment he fell in love with his Zhao Min i.e, Gu Sheng Nan, his feelings never wavered and he didn’t take any of the nonsense from the people who tried to get in between them. I never thought I would say this, but there is finally a version Zhang Wuji that I approve of! lol

Now, the only reason why this drama isn’t a perfect 10 for me is because I didn’t enjoy the later half of the drama as much as I did the beginning. I wish they didn’t shift the focus away from the cooking aspect of the show. It would’ve been great if we could’ve seen more of Sheng Nan’s growth as a a chef, instead of the fight between the half-brothers. But that’s my only minor gripe. The ending was ultimately satisfying and I’m happy everyone got their own closure in some way (even though a few of them frustrated me to no end at one point in time).

If you are still on the fence about starting this drama, don’t be! “Dating in the Kitchen” has a great CP, the storyline is fun and breezy, your heart will for sure flutter for Lin Shen, and Zhao Lusi will make you laugh and cry with her for 24 episodes. Watch this drama! You will not regret it!

Reminiscent of TVB dramas from the 80’s

I decided to watch this because I liked Lei Jiayin and needed some background noise while I worked (I figured this wasn’t a drama that required my undivided attention… I was wrong). I usually stay away from modern cdramas as I find them a little too draggy. But, this one turned out way better than I expected and definitely had my full attention. I managed to finish all 38 episodes without fast forwarding, which is very impressive for someone as impatient as me. The love story, family conflict, and revenge plot actually reminded me of classic Hong Kong TVB dramas from the 80’s, so it was a pleasant surprise.

Jian Hongcheng and Ning You were two incredibly good people who suffered and sacrificed everything for their families. My heart ached for them and there were countless times where I wanted to shake some sense into them and tell them to live for themselves for once. But, they wouldn’t be the characters that I admired if they didn’t do the things they did. Lei Jiayin and Yuan Quan were very natural and believable in their roles. It was an A+ performance from the both of them.

But, Ning Shu ended up being the character that I rooted for and cared about the most. However, I must mention that I never liked Zhang Yixing or any of the characters he portrayed in the past. So, when I first went into this drama, I expected to dislike Ning Shu and be indifferent to his ultimate downfall. But, a few episodes in was all it took for me to become invested in his storyline and desperately wished he would get his revenge, despite knowing that it would never happen. Zhang Yixing really brought the character to life. His acting has improved tremendously and I am definitely looking forward to his future works now. He made me sympathize dearly with Ning Shu and I had really hoped that he would get a somewhat happy ending. I’m so sad the drama didn’t end on episode 33. He deserved that chance to start anew.

Aside from Jian Hongcheng, Ning You, and Ning Shu, I honestly didn’t care for any of the other characters, many of them I despised. But, unfortunately they ended up being the three people who suffered the most. And yet I am still inclined to rate this drama a 9 because the story is very well written and fast paced with fleshed out characters that make you see from multiple perspectives. I highly recommend this show for those looking for something a little more slice-of-life than idol dramas or if you’re a fan of older TVB dramas, you might want to check this out ;)

Only watch if you really like the cast!

First of all... Ali was so pretty here! I don’t think there was a single bad shot of her in the entire drama. And I’ve always loved her pairing with Moses! So, I was dying for Beauty and The Boss to air. But now that I finished watching all 30 episodes, the only thing I feel is disappointment (and it has nothing to do with the cast)!

This drama was not what I expected at all. I didn’t know I would be watching a slice of life type of drama. So it came as a surprise, however it would’ve been fine if it was executed well. But, it wasn’t.

The story felt flat and disjointed. There was no climax or anything at all that would’ve made you anxious or excited for the characters over the span of 30 episodes. Any conflict that arose was always resolved quickly and easily. The editing was also weird, jumping from my one scene to the next.

I honestly wouldn’t have finished this if not for the cast. Everyone played their roles well and had great chemistry together! I was watching for Ali and Moses, but my favorite character ended up being Kiki! Tbh, I never really liked Harriet Yeung because most of her previous roles were the same annoying slapstick humor kind of crazy, but I absolutely loved her here! Kiki was beautiful, confident, and knew what she wanted in life. Her scenes were so fun to watch! She was definitely the highlight of the show for me.

But, I am sad to say, I wouldn’t recommend watching Beauty and The Boss unless you really like the cast
