Extremely poor writing.

This is one of the worst first episodes I have seen in a long time, it does absolutely nothing to introduces us to the characters, setting or world at large and instead throws us into what feels like the mid point of a story and just keeps throwing what are admittedly some really impressive and aesthetically pleasing visuals on screen. The only hints we get at what the is supposed to be going on is the main character saying that she is indeed the main character in a couple of really awkward and added in feeling fourth wall breaks and a bit of awful exposition where we're told the villain used to be a good guy and one character is kinda sad about it now, but those bits do absolutely nothing to tell us what the stakes are, who these characters are and why they're doing what they're doing or even what some of the rules of this world were. And while I don't expect a show to give me absolutely all of those things in the first episode, when it doesn't give me any in favor of a punch of very pretty nonsense, I feel no reason to continue with it or to recommend it to anyone else.
