Thank you for finding me
This has to be one of the best Chinese dramas I have ever watched, so let me list down the points one by one (check number 4 if u just wanna read the story review):
1. OST - Chinese dramas generally do have good OSTs and occasionally will have that perfect song everyone uses on Douyin/Tiktok haha I would say that as a whole, this would be the best chinese drama OST I've heard. I particularly love As I Believe and Forever Shine, because the lyrics and the melody really manage to hit you in the heart somehow. When are they uploading the rest to spotify?????? I've only found Meeting You so far.
2. Casting - I think the actors are great. I can't think of anyone else who can play their parts without making the characters annoying. The characters feel quite real and if done incorrectly, would have made you so frustrated. Wan Peng was a natural, her character definitely would have been easily played out as the "dumb, annoying, extremely positive" FL, but her little movements in her facial expressions were so natural and she didn't exaggerate her movements. Her (and the FL's mom) singing is definitely proof oof their good skills haha! For Lin Yanjun's first time, I would say he was perfect. I could tell that he did his homework well. I've seen several comments saying acting blind seems easy. Nope. Definitely not. Acting blind does not mean emotionless. And as the story progresses with the FL slowly melting and opening ML's heart, you can see how well he portrayed those feelings. You can definitely see the difference before and after the eye surgery, I look forward to more of his dramas. And the FL's dad!!! I've seen him in a few dramas and I cried a bucket load of tears when he was sick. Definitely job well done. I think the second FL wouldve done better altho her personality is rly just timid so it doesnt matter to me.
3. Cinematography - EXCEPTIONAL. I have never watched a light romantic-comedy drama that was filmed the way Crush made use of the lighting and camera. It definitely contributed to the overall mood of the story. The attention to detail is also great, especially for a chinese drama. The furniture in ML's house was covered so that he wouldn't hurt himself with the sharp edges, the ML injuring himself and u can see that injury on his hand even a few episodes after, and the ML playing the first few melodies of the future song during the first few eps he will write, and many details that show they paid attention to every aspect of the drama.
4. Story - This is definitely the most important part of the drama. I read some comments before finishing it and while everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I saw the effort and dedication that the team gave through the drama so there are some of the "negative" points other people have that I want to address. Before I begin, I think before watching the drama, people should understand that it was based on a novel written YEARS ago when everyone was a sucker for cliches and everybody was obsessed with Boys over Flowers and Meteor Garden. I would definitely give the team a perfect score for how they managed to adapt it on screen because the characters in the novel were not great (borderline annoying if u read it in 2021), and the novel story progression was too quick. Some people say that they don't like the second half of the drama because of ML's character change. But ML was not nice when he was blind either. I think people just found it understandable because of his sad childhood that he became cold and unaffectionate as a blind adult, but why would that drastically change just because he got his eyesight back? He never felt "safe" when he didn't have his eyesight, and now he had it back but knowing he hurt the FL too, he wasn't going to have a 360 degree change. Also that only lasted a few episodes before ML realizing that now he had his eyesight, he had to change for the FL and turned into the most heartwarming ML ever.
Some people also said that they found the story moving too quick, which honestly I did not notice while watching. There were actually some scenes in the novel that they filmed but never showed, probably because they were trying to fit it in 24 episodes, but I didn't think it was a rush. If you enjoy seeing 2 people being in love, then it's great. The scenes they actually deleted were so cliche (love triangle cliche with the stepmom) which I'm so glad they deleted bec it would have messed up with the overall chill vibe of the drama. Also with how some ppl saying they never rly explained how the FL's situation improved in the end, I think for me it made sense bec it was exactly how loving and caring ML was to FL that their everyday interactions made her better.
Even though the general girl meets cold hearted boy, boy chases girl is not a new plot line, they brought a new twist to it with how it was filmed and the actors made it seem extremely natural. While their relationship is not perfect, it was the one you wanted and not the typical drama relationships you'd only dream about and watch.
Overall, this is one of the best chinese dramas I've ever watched. You can see how despite the lack of promotions of this drama, a lot of people watched and raved about it because the dedication, effort, and attention to detail that the entire cast and production team put into the drama could be felt by the audience. 10/10, hope to see more works like this
