Side couple carried this average drama.

Hear me out, I know Cha Dal Bong and Kang Seo Wool are supposed to be the main couple, but from the first viewing and subsequent ones, I have always felt the urge to skip their scenes. When I did, I enjoyed this drama a lot more. Cha Gang Jae's character felt like a plot filler. I neither enjoyed nor disliked his scenes. His character created a lot of drama through his overreactions and how he is written in general. He and his female interest are equally boring and are used to cause drama to extend the show. Let's talk about the family. Secretary Cha and the director are one of my favorite Kdrama couples ever. They're funny, cute, romantic, and not written overly seriously, which I love a lot. Kim Sang Kyung's comedic timing was incredible. I lost count of how many times I laughed during this drama because of him. Lastly, the father's acting in this drama is some of the best in Korean dramas.

Hidden Gem!

I initially approached this drama with the expectation that it would either be the best or the worst Kdrama I'd ever seen. However, it turned out to be neither. In my opinion, this is one of those underrated shows that seems to go unnoticed by many. It's a shame because it's actually really good. While the story isn't terribly original or a masterpiece of fiction, it was carried by the cast. I appreciated that the main female character didn't fall for the typical rich, handsome, successful guy and instead chose the poor and not-so-handsome guy, breaking away from the usual drama trope. The music was my favorite part of the show, as it made the scenes feel more cinematic and significant. Additionally, it was just generally pleasant to the ears.

I don't get it why people don't like this!

My take on this drama may differ from most. I really enjoyed it and don't understand why it received such a low rating. It blends sci-fi, medical themes, adventure, and memorable characters, along with a great mix of history and fantasy. It's a well-written and enjoyable drama that deserves a higher rating. While it may not be a masterpiece, it fulfills its purpose of being enjoyable and creative. Additionally, those criticizing Park Min Young's acting in this drama should get their eyes checked. This is clearly one of her best works, and her performance in the romantic scenes was exceptional. The entire cast's acting carried the show, even though I didn't particularly like Kim Kyung Tak's character or the actor's somewhat mediocre acting. Despite this, I stand by my opinion. The entire cast's stellar performances overshadow any shortcomings. Watching this drama is definitely worth it; you won't regret it at all.

The drama was way too long and historically inaccurate!

Let's address the elephant in the room first, okay? The drama was way too long. They should have cut it down to 100 episodes. For a third of the drama, they were scrambling to keep the show alive. Even if you can handle watching a very long drama of 134 episodes, it is clear by the overall writing direction that they stretched the story as much as possible. Now, onto the main issue. I felt that we were deprived of an epic relationship between Princess Seok Young and the main character because of Cho Rin's character. The Princess and the main character had great chemistry, but it was overshadowed by the romance and plot involving the main character and Cho Rin. The few moments we got were not enough. I will also take points away for not being historically accurate to the point of it being a fantasy. During their conflict with the Khitans, the Turks and Goguryeoans cooperated, showing peaceful relations between the two. It is not accurate to say that the Tang helped the Turks and Goguryeoans to eliminate the Khitans.

Really good but not great!

The story is captivating, you learn a lot about Korean history! It started with ML's childhood days and adult youth, which was the most boring part of the show. The second half was an action pack extremely well-paced and the writing was top-notch. Four issues held this series back from being the best history Kdrama. The pace and story of the first half was awful! It's a truly boring watch! Second not including the fact that Admiral Yi Sun-Shin had three wives in the drama. Third Im Chun-Soo's storyline and character were a massive unnecessary snoozefest to the drama! Lastly, the most jarring thing about the show was that everyone was indispensable without the main protagonist! A good one could've been great Kdrama but still one of the best historical Kdrams ever.

The ending left me feeling hollow!

I found the ending to be quite disappointing. I couldn't bring myself to support the main couple; in fact, I ended up disliking them! As the story concluded, I couldn't help but feel sorry for Choi Kwang Il. He seemed to be the true victim among the entire cast. "A Place in the Sun" is a complex tale encompassing love, romance, deception, envy, jealousy, secrets, pride, arrogance, greed, anger, frustration, joy, and misery. I'm puzzled by the idea of living with someone solely to make their life miserable. I particularly disliked the character Shi Wol. Her intent for revenge was destined to fail from the start. All she achieved was deceiving a man who loved her and was innocent of his father's wrongdoing. In the end...well like I said it left me hollow!

One of the but the best!

The first half of the drama was a literal masterpiece of fiction. The overall quality of the writing is good, but the latter part of the story felt rushed. This was a letdown because the build-up to an epic battle between Goguryeo and Tang didn't deliver the expected action-packed epic and instead kept it on a smaller scale. Despite this, the drama did a good job of exploring and explaining Korean history during that period, and the cast's performance was stellar throughout. The unfinished feeling of the story wasn't necessarily a negative, as it seemed to be intentional and fitting given the historical events that followed. Finally, I have to admit that even though I love Choi Soo Jong, he is one of my favorite actors. However, the fact that he is too old for his character cannot be overlooked. Every time I heard him say "Hyungnim," I cringed. He did a great job in terms of acting, but it still feels like a miscast, no matter how you look at it.

It is the best historical drama!

It is the best historical drama in terms of historical accuracy and accountability. It's not just another historical drama or another eye-candy drama made with a bunch of pretty boys in costume who can't act to save their lives. On the contrary, it has great acting, fighting scenes, and great pacing. Choi Soo Jong's acting in this drama is top-notch as usual in this drama. He is the true master of this genre. Now here are two major flaws of this drama Wang Gun's reluctance does get annoying and was becoming beyond unrealistic at a point. Secondly, the last 1/3 of the drama pace changed dramatically and the storytelling began to go all over the place with little direction. The ending felt like a race against a clock. The ending somewhat saved the last 3rd of the drama had not been for that great ending trust me my opinion on the drama would have changed. Lastly, as a Christian, I hated the force of the Buddhist narrative throughout the story. Nevertheless, this is still one of the best dramas I have ever seen.

The best historical drama from an entertainment standpoint

The best historical drama from an entertainment standpoint may not be entirely historically accurate, but let's not dwell on that. This epic drama is filled with action, romance, and the story of the rise of an empire. Despite being a lengthy Korean drama, Jumong kept me engaged throughout. The characters were given ample time to develop, making their eventual success all the more satisfying. Unlike most Korean dramas, Jumong strikes a good balance between romance and plot development, avoiding excessive emotional drama. Overall, Jumong ranks among the top ten Korean dramas of all time.

It was a very good but extremely flawed drama!

I watched Itaewon Class, and although the story isn't exactly original, it was told in a unique and special way. I was initially drawn to the show because of the cast, but what I loved the most was the unique vibe of the characters and the world the writer created. The drama felt so woke that I seriously wondered if it was a Kdrama or a typical American show. It starts out as a motivational story of misfits coming together to fulfill their epic revenge plans, and in the last few episodes, it focuses on romance, which felt a bit forced even though I did enjoy the couple. The villains started as run-of-the-mill entitled characters but became more over-the-top and cartoonish, especially Jang Geun Won. The ending was poorly handled, feeling like things just happened instead of following a coherent narrative flow. The saving grace might be the main character, who is extremely likable, even though at times he felt like a lucky idiot, and I say that with love.

Trash!

I despise this show! The plot was extremely poorly written and all over the place. The acting by the female leads was unbearable, and the use of body swapping as a plot device was the worst possible choice. In all my years of living, rarely - and I mean rarely - has this plot device worked. There was zero chemistry between the lead couple! The lack of a satisfying ending, where the main actress wakes up in her own body and gets the man, and the second female character learns a valuable lesson and becomes a better person in her own body, left me feeling extremely disturbed and disappointed! This is the worst soap-style drama I have ever seen! Please do yourself a favor and don't watch!
