Warning: unpopular opinion up ahead.

Also , for the record, it's been a while since I've seen this drama.

Anyway.

I was prepared to like this drama. I really, honestly was. But for me it missed the mark - by several miles .

First off, Yang Xue Wu is the biggest Mary Sue I’ve seen in drama (any drama) so far. She has absolutely zero flaws and needs constant rescuing from Lan Ling Wang. For all her skill with fireworks and healing she can’t even save herself ? Sorry if I find that to be a little unbelievable. No, scratch that. It’s totally unbelievable .

The costume design was amazing , but that's unfortunately the only redeeming thing for me. Special effects were rarely well-executed, instead looking obviously out of place in this historical fantasy setting.

Pretty much every other female character was either eeeeeeeevil or disappeared quickly, save for Yuwen Yong's niece who I didn't really see a whole lot. The other female characters only served to enhance Xue Wu's already ridiculous Mary Sue - ness.

I hope by now you know I absolutely hate Mary Sue type characters.I know it's never the fault of the actresses playing them, but just lazy writing. Really, what is so difficult about writing a complex main character who actually has to work for what they want?

The ending theme was repeated way too much throughout pretty much every episode . Sometimes it's just fine to let a dramatic moment speak for itself but no, every single one of them is "emphasised" by repeating the theme over and over again.

What I hated the most was that everything seemed to revolve around the idea of 'Xue Wu gets in trouble , Lan Ling Wang rescues her' . The rest of the plot is secondary to that .

Lastly, what's up with that ending ? After 46 episodes you just want to have a happily ever after for the main characters , but clearly the writer(s) had other ideas.

Every once in a while, there is a drama that can make you cry, flinch, yell in frustration and swoon over the romance. That is what 'I hear your voice' was for me.

Lee Bo Young and Lee Jong Suk have real chemistry going on; their romance is extremely cute and believeable, undoubtedly due to their fantastic acting. This was also the first time in a drama that I rooted for both the love interests, with Yoon Sang Hyun 's character being painfully honest and genuinely kind- hearted. Lee Bo Young as Jang Hye Sung is the prime example of what I like to call a 'human' character; Hye Sung has believable failings and tries to turn these around in the best way possible, while also accepting that not everything can turn out the way she would like. The latter also goes for Soo Ha, whose motives at a point coincide with Hye Sung's.

Regarding the storyline, I absolutely loved it! A courtroom drama juxtaposed against a personal quest for revenge is an excellent way to develop conflicts, and of course solutions to those conflicts that arise naturally from character action.

Some aspects of the plot may seem a bit forced, but this being a very character-driven drama I'm sure that you will not be bothered by that.

This drama is a mess. As charming as IU and Jang Geun Suk are, they have zero chemistry going on. In my opinion, this is partly due to that the storyline of this drama can not seem to make up its mind on what it wants to be ; It goes from rom-com to family drama to thriller and back. As a result, it fails to execute any of these things well. It does not do any justice to the acting skills of any of the actors either, since much of the plot rests on situations that are forced and too convenient to be believable. Don't mistake me , I like dramas that are a little bit too good to be true , but there has to be some amount of believability in it that makes me want to care for the characters.

I admit I started watching this because Jang Geun Suk and IU sounded like a golden combination , and the concept seemed nice and light-hearted enough for me to give it a go. However, it ended up being one of those dramas that starts all hilarious and from episode 8 or so it goes downhill.
Ultimately I ended up finishing it more out of habit than anything else, because the story bored me to no end. Next time I'd like to see IU in a less cutesy type of role (taking 'Dream High' into account). Here she was just random and a bit of a cheerleader to all the other characters .
She doesn't suddenly have to go all 'femme fatale' but I'd loved to have seen her stand up for herself, at least. And Geun Suk, oh... I love you , but your character did not have any personality aside from his arrogance.

I have seen my fair share of comic book adaptations , and this is definitely not the better of them .

If you enjoy romantic comedies in the vein of '100 days with Mr. Arrogant', you will definitely like this one. Gross, funny and heartwarming at turns, this movie is sure to entertain you.

'Two Faces of My Girlfriend' tells the story of college student Guchang, never kissed, never had a girlfriend. Until he meets Ahni. Ahni seems the kind of girl to charm anyone with her sweet and calm personality and the ideal daughter--in-law. Until, on a drunk night with friends, her other personality Hani emerges. Hani is irritable, controlling and even violent at times, and certainly does not like Guchang in the beginning. She is aware of Ahni's existence within the same body and fiercely protective of her.

Although the story walks a thin line between presenting plot points too fast and too slowly, everything adds up to a wonderfully emotional conclusion which makes you realise how dear the characters have grown to you throughout. Socially awkward Guchang, his circle of friends, gentle Ahni and violent Hani are characters who will stay with you long after you've watched the movie. I admit I'm not too fond of the scenes in which Guchang threatens to drop a blob of saliva on Ahni/Hani's face, but, as I've said, if you enjoy movies like '100 Days with Mr. Arrogant' that employ these same kinds of gross-but-endearing scenes, this one is definitely for you.
