Overall I can understand where the story was going and what message it was trying to bring across. I know why the film ended the way it did and it was very easy to follow.
However, the cast, although it looked very promising, didn’t make it believable enough for me. Hou Minghao did very well, I thought he played his role as intended but for some reason Peng Yuchang didn’t deliver his character to what I think he could’ve. He’s a generally good actor but I don’t think the rebellious teenager role really suited him which is a shame because I think he could’ve done much better.
I cannot remember the music at all, which just means it was neither good or bad. So no huge complaints about it.
Overall, a movie with a good message but not perfectly delivered. Couldn’t really remember the character’s names and CG effects could’ve been done better. No need to rewatch.

Far too many issues
I’m going to start this off by saying I absolutely adore all the actors in the drama and I believe they did as well as they could’ve with the really poor writing and plot development. Now, where do I begin.
When I watched the drama for the first time, I thought it was a relatively good drama albeit some confusing timelines but overall I actually really liked it. However, I revisited the drama to refresh my memory before the second season and I was so shocked at just how awful so many things were.
First of all, the entire relationship between Tharn and Type makes little to no sense.
Type, someone who was sexually abused as a child, falling in love with Tharn, someone who forced/molested Type. There is absolutely nothing wrong if Type had fallen in love naturally by realising Tharn was a good, caring person but Tharn was not.
I was shocked when rewatching just how much Tharn forced himself onto Type despite knowing how much Type dislikes gays and for a very justifiable reason. While Type was drunk, Tharn makes hickeys on his neck. For what reason was that necessary?? Later on, Type is still not okay with Tharn and for some odd reason, Type is perfectly fine with receiving a blowjob and not only offering to sleep with Tharn but also being on the receiving end. This just makes absolutely no sense.
These issues were all in the first few episodes of the drama, I won’t even get into the other issues that also occurred.
Lhong was crazy. How he didn’t go to prison for what he did is still a mystery and once again, doesn’t make any sense. They tried to justify some of his actions with his special episode but no amount of justification should exempt him from prison or at least a mental ward. I won’t go into detail but you all already know just how messed up he was.
I’m not even going to address Tar and Tum’s situation as that is even more mental health issues that just was not handled well.
As I never read the books, I cannot say whether they were better explained or not but for the original author to come up with all the characters and have them all have a traumatising background definitely rubs me the wrong way. At points it seems like sexual abuse is being romanticised and in no way is that okay.
Overall, I liked the actors and I am grateful it has brought us MewGulf but I cannot support just how wrong all the relationships were and I cannot continue to enjoy the show as much as I did the first time I watched it.

The cast was perfect, Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo did the characters justice and both just played their roles perfectly, I could never imagine anyone else playing LWJ or WWX. Although the acting in the beginning was a little stiff, they adapted incredibly well to their roles and made the story come to life.
Due to the ban in China for BL’s, many parts were changed so it would be able to air but don’t be disheartened because the writing really captured all the emotions between the two male leads that were acted out wonderfully.
The music is something else I need to applaud. Basically the entire OST soundtrack was sung by the cast themselves and the music was beautifully timed during the drama.
I would definitely rewatch the drama, I’m currently in the middle of rewatching it and am 28 episodes in again. Rewatching it makes me realise I missed some important parts that I will not spoil so you guys should definitely watch!

An okay drama with not a lot of substance
After finishing the series, it almost felt like a relief because I watched every week hoping there would be a little more to spark my interest but after 13 weeks I can say that overall it was just a plain drama with little to no conflict at all.If you enjoy a light hearted drama with not much to think about, this would be a nice one to watch over a weekend but if you want depth and quality, this would not be for you.
The simplicity of the story was really lovely to watch and the relationships were just pure and cute with no 'am I gay? No I only like you' trope which was refreshing. The relationships between Solo and Gui as well as Phu and Kao were overall really enjoyable and both couples had cute chemistry. The third couple was just shambles, I could not care less about them, I wouldn't even be able to name the doctor. Often feeling the need to skip their scenes, the third couple really did not add anything to the story except frustration.
The only actor I think that did a good job is the one who played Kao. He was very natural and played his part incredibly well. All the others were lacking in some aspects, whether that was facial expression or delivery of their lines. I am not sure whether it was because of the actors or the director not helping them and giving them enough guidance.
The OST of Oxygen was really nice to listen to and I found myself not wanting to skip it very often, however, the other aspects of the drama in terms of music were pretty awful. The sound effects were bad and at times the background music was abruptly cut with no real transition.
Overall, an okay drama with not a lot of substance. I wouldn't personally rewatch.
