I'm fairly new to Korean dramas and music but I'm definitely hooked!
Reasons I love KDramas in No Particular Order:
1. Having to read subtitles means I actively watch the show (instead of surfing the net while half-watching and missing most of a show!)
2. I love the tropes! I love seeing tropes you otherwise don't see in Western shows and I actually get a lot of mirth out of predicting what trope will happen next. I especially enjoy when they subvert the tropes.
3. They aren't too long... my favorite series are the 16 episode ones. We get a nice story arc, and then it's over and I am free to go on to the next one!
4. I love seeing the food. I am celiac and on a restricted diet, I'm not really a 'foodie' in my regular life - but I love the 'food porn' aspect of Korean (and Japanese) dramas.
5. I love learning about another culture & language through media. I know real life in Korea isn't like a Kdrama (I mean, I'm a grown woman and I know the difference between real and pretend LoL) but getting a peek into another culture and soaking up some language is really fun. It's even inspired me to learn Hangul and while I'm still a total beginner, I get a kick out of being able to sound words out if they are on screen long enough.
