ON POINT

I always loved Jung Hae In, he's one of those that don't need to exert too much effort to show his emotions. You know he's happy even without him being giddy, or sad, without crying, mad without needing to shout or kick you. And this is what you get from him in DP.

As Joon Ho, his acting is contained but very emotional. Even without saying a word, you can feel that he's burning up inside. I guess his partner Corporal Ho Yul knows this. He knows how he feels, what he thinks and as quirky as he is, he has this caring aspect in him, that enabled Joon Ho to finally talk to his mom. This also showed in one of the episodes when Ho Yul let go of one the deserters to enable him to bring his grandma to a sanitarium, You will love Ho Yul character here.

The story is on point. Didn't hide or sugar coat what's happening inside. It all boils down to mental torture. What else could it be when you know it will only be 24 month inside? Physical torture? They can't do that 24/7, but it will eventually damage your mental health. When you're out there, alone, with no family to turn to, you will always find yourself thinking why is this happening. I also appreciate that they showed how the higher ups have turned a blind eye to these situations and would only think of what is beneficial to them. Bum Go, who is DP's immediate supervisor, seems to be also sucked by the system, but eventually stood up for his soldiers.

The series is only 6 episodes. I wanted more and see what happens to Joon Ho, but I know the series is not about him. It's about doing the mandatory military service and why you have deserters. And that what the series will give you.

Opposite Attracts

Got curious with this drama since I've been seeing it on my recommended list. First reaction was, "oh, so it's starts with an online game again" since I just finished Love Scenery, but unlike LS, the female lead has no intention of hiding her identity. I found it amusing on how Jing Jing was able to lure Yu Tu in becoming his coach, talk about air purifier!

As one review said, it's a slow burn romance, it's true. Yu Tu discovering Jing Jing's real personality, which he totally ignored during their younger years. Here is one person, who he thought would never help him achieve what he dreams of, would be the one person who would understand and give him encouragement in the end. Jing Jing may be lacking intellectually, became his emotional fortress.

Aside from the story, Yang Yang's visual presence also got me hooked to this Cdrama. Even Dilraba's doe eyed face came in second to his handsomeness! His acting also didn't fail, he did justice as the smart uptight aerospace engineer who's torn with his emotions and later loosing it because of Jing Jing's loyalty and her mischievousness!

I also liked that the drama didn't have too much conflicts, no exes who keeps popping out to keep the lovers apart, no manager who prevents her talent from being in love, or parents that would love to contradict their child's happiness. The conflict really is how these two people with different personalities and background would eventually harmonize and complement each other. And yes, there was no second couple story line! Honestly, this second couple syndrome in Cdramas are sometimes uncalled for.

I watched this for 2 days, that's how I got hooked. Didn't skip any scenes or episodes. So I guess, you reading this, should go and watch it.

pure and simple

the story may seem to be mediocre, what with 2 individuals getting attached by just playing an online video game. but what hooked me into it was how Lu Jing's admiration and young love was reciprocated by Liang Chen and developed to a mature one. their chemistry just lightens up the screen and you wanted them to just move on to the next level in every episode.

about the cast:
- i can understand that Jia Yun is supposed to be Liang Chen's senior, but i still cringe every time he intends to show his love for Liang Chen. he looks too old for the role. i also don't understand that as an actor he's always involved with Liang Chen business, was he a part of the management team?
- on Taro and Shan Shan, thank God for Taro, that the 2 leads got together, but does he have to be a goofball all the way? as for Shan Shan, i have to skip most of her scenes.
- the rest of the characters are lovable though. the room mates and even Gu Fei Ming! they added to Lu Jing's character development.

if you want a simple love story, that would make you smile and hope for the lovers success, give this a shot.
