On par with the series but for different reasons!
This movie moved away from the experimental filming style of the Gameboys series but the quality remained. In this instalment we see more of Gav and Cairo and their struggles as a couple, and also an update from the usual characters such as Pearl, Terrance, Wesley and the briefly introduced Achilles.
I loved that the style of filming now allowed us to see a more organic, less showy version of Gav and Cairo's relationship. The plot this time focused more on Gav and his struggles, which I loved! He was so positive in the series that I wondered when we would get more honesty from him, about his life outside his relationship with Cairo, and we got it, it was so nice, but often heart-breaking to see. There was a genuine progression to Gav and Cairo's relationship too, no rushing, and the actors did a good job of relaying this. There was still lots of crying, so expect that, but it felt natural.
My main issues with this instalment lay with Terrence, Wesley wasn't so bad but Terrence was a bit annoying to be honest. His character just seemed so fake, with all the apologising, I'm not sure if this was the actors fault or if Terrence was meant to be kind of flaky? But either way, it made his relationship with Wesley seem ingenuine. I did like their story overall though, and some of their moments were cute, so I hope I can better understand Terrence's character in the future, maybe in Game Boys 2, which I am interested in and hoping to watch!
