Animal Abuse - Crew tied rope to horse's legs to pull it down.  Actor sustained injuries & horse died a week later due to injuries sustained from the filming.  Kawa an animal right group took actions.

Chinese unhappy that Chinese characters written on actress's face which is a humiliation.  Korean production company say language is not Chinese, but Han Ja (a Korean language derived from Chinese).

Historical omissions - Romanizing a historical figure that was also bad.

Petitions started to stop drama from airing due to political inaccuracies.

Historical Inaccuracies - 700 complaints to Communications Standards Commission.  Additionally the author of the story this drama is based on is known to paint Koreans in a negative light.

Episode 13 - too Vulgar

Director a hypocrite.  A bully at age 17 in the Philippines and only now at age 46 has asked his lawyer to reach out to victims so he can make amends/apologies.

Drama planned to air 2 episodes but drama was postponed on KBS during allegations that FL was a bully in middle school.  Text messages proved these allegations to be false.  

Last 3 episodes removed from IQIYI.  BL with homosexual scenes.

Production staff offer apology for racist representation of Indonesians in an episode.

Final Scene - ML character refuses to give Saudi prince concert tickets but then gives them seats in the very back row.  Middle eastern viewers targeted the show giving it a huge number of 1 star ratings.

Standards Commission issued a warning after after thousands of complaints were received asking for it's cancelation.  Issues were a racist depiction of a character, kiss between minor + adult, suggestive content. Some content was removed from drama.

Episode 7 - Misrepresentation of Chron's Disease got viewers riled up

Episode 8 - Misrepresented a Korean food (bibimbap).  Used a Chinese food product (Zi Hai Guo) as the prop.  What is weird due to strained relations with China, Chinese products scarcely available in Korea.

Intimate Scene - FL in interview said it was added.  Her fans up in arms thinking she was bamboozled, however script was unfinished at time of recording so actors had input/say in characters' development/actions.

Shower scene w/ Lee Min Ki -  His whole backside nude w/a peach emoji over his bum.  Made many feel uncomfortable & his fans attacked industry for sexual harassment.

Episode 5 - Indonesian players & the Indonesian spectators were portrayed in a racist way.  Indonesian audience expressed to SBS their disappointment/distain for the portrayal betrayal via Instagram.

Cultural Appropriation/racism - Alex character tattoos all over, gold teeth, dreadlocks, & African American slang.  Actor issued apology on his Instagram account.  Network changed Alex's appearance & mannerisms.

Footage from 2017 Pohang Earthquake & 2021 Gwangju building accident removed after victim's families complained.

Excessive product placement.

Suriname misrepresented - foreign minister Albert Ramdin lodged a complaint saying Suriman doesn't participate in those practices anymore & their image has been distorted to the public.

Episode 15 - Insensitivity towards 911 survivors.   FL character smiles at ML character reporting the news on TV...unfortunately the scene he is covering is the 911 crisis.  Many Americans viewed this as insensitive.

Netflix used real phone # on invitation card.  In real life the innocent man with that phone # received hundreds of calls, some for harassment.  Producers asked him to change it.  That # tied to his business so he could not change it.  Scenes with that number had to be edited.

Episode 9 - FL likens her beauty regiment to the prisoners of Auschwitz concentration camp.  Producers issued an apology for the insensitivity of that scene.

Production staff offer apology after a group photo posted by Cha Eun Woo was criticized by netizens.  Staff wasn't taking Covid-19 precautions seriously.

Choi Jin Hyuk - spotted at bar during Covid -19 restrictions. Removed from show & edited out of future ones.

Na In Woo replaces Ji Soo after about 6 episodes recorded. Kim Ji Soo embroiled in bullying scandal.

April Lee Na Eun is replaced due to bullying scandal.  Lee Hyun Joo's brother posted how April's bandmates bullied his sister (a band member).   

Kim Jung Hyun (ML) left show prematurely for health reasons which was found to be mostly untrue.  ML's girlfriend Seo Ye Ji dominating him.  13 skinship scenes removed at actor's request.

Ryu Jun Yeol accused of cheating on actress girlfriend Lee Hye  Ri with actress Han So Hee.  Many fans boycotted drama due to him.

A fan created & posted a scandalous/explicit fanfic with Wang Yiboo & Xiao Zhan on AO3.  XZ's fan considered it vulgar & reported it + website to China which in turn blocked the site to Chinese users.  War between AO3 users & XZ's fans caused brands to drop XZ & all his projects that year were put in limbo.

Wang Yue Yi scrubbed from cast list a few days before the finale.  She posted that air in Beijing did not smell as nice as the air in Japan.  Even if true, criticizing your homeland did not sit well with nationalists / cnetizens.   

Zhang zhe Han accused of being a pro Japanese supporter due to pics of him & a Japanese shrine & talking to a pro Japanese businesswoman at the wedding at that shrine.  "

Yang Xu Wen - last person to see actress Ren Jiao alive (laughing together in elevator in hotel).  Ren was found dead & naked at base of said hotel's room balcony in the bushes.  Xu Wen was cleared but Ren's family suspected foul play.   Xu Wen's personal character came into question when he was found to be with a different girl each night.

Wu Xiubo - 7-year extra-marital affair with Ruby Chen plus suspected others came out in 2018.  Wu had Ruby Chen arrested for blackmailing him.  Wu's handling of his ex-lover issue & suspected multiple affairs were negatively received.  Projects he was working on were edited & future ones terminated/put on hold.
