Honestly, no site is reliable anymore, neither IMDb nor Google, obviously there was a very big manipulation on several sites and it is too noticeable for anyone to notice. The vast majority of people realized that there is manipulation regarding punctuation. So honestly no source is reliable for me anymore.
Ji-N:Just to want to make it clear.
1. We can’t share the a lot of details because it would make it easier for people to cheat the system but we do have rules to stop new accounts from messing with ratings and criteria requirements.
2. Reviews don’t affect the overall ratings because that would count a user’s input the rating twice.3. New users can vote, but their votes won’t count in the final rating unless they meet certain criteria.
That is something we do plan to add in the future.
Ivy:Thanks for clarifying. Actually after looking at IMDbs ratings the manipulation of them is strikingly clear, MDL might benefit from the same kind of set up, like for example IMBb shows us they have a total of 77k reviews, 51k of which are 1 star reviews from Indonesia, with 69k 1 star reviews total. So definitely seems like some kind of bot farm or something. If MDL had similar metrics it might help users trust ratings more (I know a lot of folks who don't trust the ratings on this site at this point). Would this be better off as it's own suggestion thread?
I think what MDL need is a system like on Metacritic. Two different ratings that you can see on the page of the movie/show. One for Reviewers and one for the Users. So, people can see the average scores for each, and if the gap is big, it's easy to see which show or movie was bombed with 10s or 1s.
