Interesting read. Thanks for sharing.

super interesting thank you! btw, do you feel like this drama is getting more or less hate than the typical poplar xian xia? i have never been this invested in a show before... so i've no context on how other shows do. i loved ashes but watched it way later on netflix...most of my favor xian xias i watched way after air

I love Ashes of Love too! A great story and the drama also quite well adapted. I don’t really bother much with C media platform and their social media because it’s full with bias and fans tends to dictate and make all sorts of fake news. To my experience in Xian Xia watching history. TTEOM has the most elaborated CGI, fantastic fight scenes, put lots of effort on the beautiful costumes. And of course the great casts, the story adaptation is also quite well written, although my only complain is the cut of episode, really doesn’t justify and hence some important plot points and background story may be lost. This far, it sets a different and higher level standard for future Xian Xia.

This is quite insightful to read. It turns out that those that are bashing TTEOTM are doing it not because of the actual drama per say. This explains the politics behind the entertainment industry. What really stuck to me is that producers know what people like and are happy to recycle the same storyline and cliche characters but with a new drama name and actors to get easy money. Now if TTEOTM is a success, that creates a new audience, new expectations of people and makes the job of the producers more difficult. They have to be more creative and thoughtful when creating new dramas. Basically those producers are lazy and don't want to do new things so that's why they try to take down TTEOTM.

@justjacky, that’s so true in movie and film industry. The commercial perspectives of making such film is to them is to make money. Hence even in Hollywood, you see the lack of creativity and catching the hype of what can make money. Sadly the unique type of genre or creative story will become art film and not popular. I am really happy that TTEOM has so far exceed expectation. And create a new standard for such drama.

Thanks for the information. I was taken aback by how ferocious the reviews were. It borders on personal attack and picking fault. I was wondering is audience so demanding and professional, production wise?

All I want is a nice drama and all drama is boring nowadays to me. It's been years!!! So, I was happy with this one. Finally one that is engaging, makes me sob. Although, Yexiwu and Taijin death scene makes me cringe, the overall story is still good especially the turnaround at ep 30. It is like a rollercoaster ride. Love it. Love the fight scene too.

It's about time. Do something different. Hope they makes lot of money. Then, we get to see more of good shows. Ha ha...thanks for the info.

But what you can't deny is this: a team that can produce a perfect drama could never make TTEOTM work.

Because without Otter taking this first step, they would never allow the war between demons and god to go on for an hour. They won't allow the ML & FL to not play the CP card. They won't allow the ML to be a dark, psycho character. They won't allow the 2FL to say she only cares for herself. They would never embed a big budget fight scene in a fluffy xianxia drama.

This is why I love this drama so much. So different from the usual trope.

Thanks for sharing. I was searching for a https://casinosanalyzer.com/online-casinos/vegasriocasino.com website online because I was looking for the online casinos sites through which I can make money and when I was looking for it online, I found your post as well. I will surely keep it in my mind.

I agree, especially about the new expectations of people/viewers....the thing is that the appetite of the viewer has been there for a LONG time, but the movie/drama industry in China has been stuck in a rut when it comes to taking no risks.

China has thousands of years of history and their own pantheon of beliefs and culture that can be explored and adapted for screenplays, but they have been self limiting their artists creativity for decades and what we end up with is formulaic and boring stories, with only a handful breaking free in just the last few years.

The only thing that I can see and agree to a certain point with the producers wanting to play it safe is that they have the huge and heavy burden of dealing with state censors with a capital C, the writers and producers can create a masterpiece, film it ect but if the Censors say nope....then it dies and so does all that work and money.  So their fears aren't groundless.

In order for China to really have presence on the world stage as a leader in creativity and vision, they have to loosen the reins a bit. They have a huge pool of talent that aches to shine and it can only do that in the light.

the thing with hollywood is, even me, a diehard fan of the marvel universe since 2008 , and since RDJ played Tony Stark aka Ironman, i am tired. I mean I felt very satisfied after the conclusion of the 2parter infinity war.

if it were just the movies, maybe i could go on, but of course, disney will not stop, and creating huge and TONS of tv shows out of marvel too. ... and for me , well that was too much.

on the other hand, if, IF c-dramas hasn't entered into my sight with Nirvana in Fire a couple of years ago? who knows, i might still be caught in the marvel web.

alas, i am all good. my hero tony stark died as a hero with all his flaws etc, but hero nonetheless.

i can leave US Shows behind, then and there watch Hollywood movies (still looking forward SO Much to fast & furious 10, still cant wait for DUNE 2, and OGOSH, BARBIE! the trailers so far promises a FUN summer, and thats what I need after depressing 2 years of covid, and then ukraine war. and thats also why i adore and worship Chinese dramas. they have nothing to do with reality, they are an escape for me. no talks about race, war, gender, (in)equality, climate change, or whatever. just pure escapism.

uff that was way more then i intended to write. sorry for derailing/ Hijacking the topic.

the so chinese drama and movie industry. and the fanbase of idols and stars. totally toxic and crazy.

are the chinese fans more crazy than fans from Korea? from Japan? do those countries have the same toxic fan culture?

just wondering.  and thinking, well in Germany we say : die Geister die du riefst...

meaning , sure, the industry might use the fans to push their stars, and idols, but fans are also people , they can be used, and manipulated, but i guess, once they turn into a mob, and mobbing culture , they can easily turn against those, that want to use them as well.

I agree, ender1979 , the 2 part Infinity War was the last one of those I watched, I just considered that as the end, I can't remember if I watched any after it but I feel like I didn't or at least nothing made an impression on me. I felt like they just kept seeing it as a cashcow and going after every last penny they could squeeze from fans and I was kind of over it by then.

To digress further on your point. I used to be a huge fan of Marvel universe and DC too. And it also ended at the Infinity War. I feel that this industry is now so commercialized that whatever it’s money making, it gravitates towards it, as it has become such a money making industry. More CGI, more epic scene but compensate on good story. The more money pump in, the higher the expectation and return is expected. And whatever is not making money will be dropped like a sack of potatoes or become an art film that will hardly see light. Film industry is a delicate balance between creativity and money making, but now it seems to be the latter. Another example, like Star Wars, re-making and experimenting different characters and see what picks up. Even those with good script will be dropped or change because of its lack of commercial value. And we have Lord of the Rings series by Amazon, completely ignoring the fans’ perspectives and flopped. What we are getting as audience are often disappointment as the intention of making film is wrong. So this industry whether in Hollywood or China or Hong Kong, it’s so hard to see good script and great production as it’s all focus on just making more money. Not a lot of small film can afford and stand their ground on making good film now. I agreed about DUNE, I am also eagerly waiting for part 2, but I do hope it sticks to what we have been shown in part 1.
Back to China scene, it definitely has a huge potential money making market, as you pointed out, China is such an huge market of consumers, (the fans based) and not forgetting international fans. But China is different because their government has a lot more power over what can or cannot. Like in recent heat-up discussion in the commentary of this drama in why it’s cut so drastically. A lot of us, were upset how this good drama were subjected to China policy, etc etc etc.
but in China, people can only make noise in social media and create fuzz, hopefully someone is listening. But yet to China, it’s never a democratic view on setting film legislation. So as for the fans or drama lovers, we can only shout out, but I don’t think it will change much. And sometimes making too much noise can cause an opposite effect of legislation  being cramped down tighter. E.g. ‘no time travelling theme’, allowed now; reduction of ep., etc.
However over the years, I do noticed more small production film in China trying hard and are being given a chance and able to produce decent drama like this one. It’s a lot of effort to find that balance.
Just hope that this drama can set a precedent of a certain standard and continues to encourage good script, fantastic production and great cast.
Apology for my long rant.…this drama is ending soon and we are just subjected to factors that are uncontrollable…hahah.
