Hi -- can you recommend some dramas that are appropriate to watch with a 9yo ? After years of watching kdramas, I recently started watching some chinese romances and I quite enjoy them - so I'm thinking to make this a family affair - so that my kids can practice their mandarin listening skills.
My daughter has been learning chinese since kindergarten but doesn't get much exposure to the language outside the textbooks.
? Maybe A Little thing Called First Love
Its a very youthful type drama, but centers around the romance between the two leads that spans their high sschool to college days. Their romance is very adorable and innocent . Additionaly this drama also gives some focus on family, passion and dreams, friendship, self worth.
If you want a to see through or get a snippet of how youthful and how much romance it will show, checl out the original Thai Movie, Crazy Little thing called love where this drama was adapted from.
Take My Brother Away! It's a super touching drama/comedy about two siblings! (The movie is really good too!)
When I was in fifth grade I watched a lot of variety shows with my parents (I'd recommend Running Man China), and that's how I started kind of liking Chinese shows honestly.
I'd also recommend A Love So Beautiful, When We Were Young, With You and My Huckleberry Friends (most high school dramas work pretty well).
What genre(s) do you and your daughter prefer? I used to like fantasy/ adventure/ wuxia settings when I was ~9 y/o, so enjoyed Chinese Paladin 3 and The Vigilantes in Masks a lot. But the CGI is kinda crappy especially if you compare them with the dramas produced lately. Maybe try Wu Xin: The Monster Killer if she likes these genres? Your Highness is an easy watch too, with some comedy elements. Mengfei Comes Across is about the daily life in the palace, with some comedic and modern elements.
