Hi guys!
I'm looking for a historical drama that was shown on CCTV a while ago (like 4/5 years ago). I think it was about traders and one of the main characters was called Chen Tiansong and it shows how he grows up being poor but he was a very clever boy and he was top of his class etc. Later in the drama he became an influential man in his city. It maybe was set in the 1880s - early 1900 (I think).
I'd very much appreciate your help :-)
It may be this one not sure

The title is Xin An Family about a tea trading family. The version you watched would have been this:
http://tv.cctv.com/2012/11/30/VIDE1354276362893523.shtml (30 min trailer)
http://tv.cctv.com/2012/12/01/VIDE1354368861482804.shtml (episode 1)
Which I will refer as the CCTV 39 episode 'happy ending version.
There's also an extended version of 49 episodes which contain scenes deleted from the CCTV version and continue the story of Chen Tiansong and other characters follow the 'happy ending' until the eve of Japanese invasion in the 1930s.
