Kim Da Mi has been an actress that has stood out so far this year for me. She appeared in her first major main role in the k-drama Itaewon Class as Jo Yi Seo. Also, she has been in many other roles prior to that. The point of my article is to help you learn about this wonderful talent and why you should add her to your list of new favorite actresses.
WARNING: This article may contain spoilers from her work/roles
Some Information On Her
Name: Kim Da Mi
Native Name: 김다미
Nationality: South Korean
Gender: Female
Birthday: April 9th, 1995 (25)
She went to Incheon National University.
She has been acting since 2017.
Her Many Roles
Marionette
This was one of her first roles and I have to say she aced the character very well. Her character was a younger version of the female lead and what made me love her every scene, which wasn't a lot, was that she showed very realistic actions that can happen to a high school girl that goes through this experience of being taken advantage of and being r**** by a group of young boys (which is and will always be disgusting). I empathized and felt bad for Yoo Min Ah.
The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion
My gosh...I have no words for this role she took on. This movie is a MUST-WATCH! Again, I'm mind blown by her portrayal of the character. She plays a young high school girl named Goo Ja Yun; a young couple discovered her abandoned and beaten up with bruises all her body when she was eight years old. They took her in and raised her as their own. People tend to call her a "witch" because of her being different and strange in certain areas. This honestly brought so much amazing acting out of Kim Da Mi since we got to see a cunning side to her. Once again, I just want to recommend this movie for everyone who wants a good thrill (especially made by Kim Da Mi)!
Itaewon Class
Now her character, Ji Yi Seo here has to be one of the strongest, badass woman I have ever watched in a Korean drama. She is tough, never takes crap from anyone, and always gives people a hard time for what they deserved when they are wrong. Yet, she also has a kind, sweet side to her that is loyal to the people she loves. This was how I discovered Kim Da Mi and will always be one of my favorite roles from her (well that can change; only time will tell and the more dramas/movies she is in...).
Upcoming Roles
Hi My Soul Mate
Two girls first meet at the age of 13 and become friends. For the next 14 years, the two girls experience love, jealousy and personal growth. (Source: AsianWiki)
So she will be playing one of the main characters that will probably have lots of conflict with the other female lead. I'm really excited for this movie. I also found out that this will be based on the Chinese movie Soul Mate. I recommend watching that one before this Korean adaption comes out so you might have a better idea or be able to contrast what both films will shine on. You can also wait for this production to come out and watch it then. Either way, I'm looking forward to this!
The Witch: Part 2
A continuation from the first movie: The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion. No known information on what the sequel will be about yet. But stay tuned and keep an eye out for that...
I'm really looking forward to this. The first movie was amazing, and again I do recommend watching that since it was too darn good with Kim Da Mi! I wish there was more information on what will happen next, but I guess we will have to wait to find out. What makes me really upset is that Choi Woo Shik may not be in the sequel, because they made it seem like he was killed off, or maybe it was fake and she really didn't kill him... So maybe. I'm hoping!
Why You Should Give Her A Chance
Over the past three years of her acting career, she has shown so many different sides of her personality, acting, roles, and mostly what she has to offer. She's amazing and I want to share her talent in any way I can. Hopefully, everything I have expressed in my article has made you interested or kept you wanting to watch more of her work. I look forward to her growth through the years to come, and I hope you do too!
Thank you so much for reading my article!
Until next time~
