RECAP: Gu Family Book ep 10

Bu Wan asks Gon Yi to remove the painting while Yeo Wool and Kang Chi are anxiously waiting behind the secret door. Yeo Wool trips (over a flat surface?) and Kang Chi twirls around to grab her before she falls. He suddenly realizes that Yeo Wool is female (duh) because he grabbed her chest to steady her. The two stare uncomfortably at each other before quickly turning away.



The sound doesn’t go unnoticed as Bu Wan orders Gon Yi to move away from the painting. Bu Wan examines the painting and notices that there is a lock in the lower left corner. He unlocks it and the painting slides into the wall. He tries to push the panel but Yeo Wool and Kang Chi are pushing against it from the other side. Bu Wan gives up but says that the door is suspicious and orders some guards to keep watch, as well as halting construction.



Cheong Jo is seated across from Satan in the gisaeng house. Wol Sun suggests that they take a walk but Gwan Woong ignores her and simply stares at Cheong Jo. Gwan Woong asks Cheong Jo to come closer but she stays seated and ask him if he’s making fun of her or wants to see her commit suicide by biting off her own tongue (so basically no). She says that although she was sold to the gisaeng house she will not become a rich man’s plaything. Gwan Woong wonders how she can remind him so much of that girl (Seo Hwa).



Soo Ryeon enters to bring Cheong Jo back to her class but Gwan Woong says that he asked her to come. He says that until the construction is done at the 100 Year Inn he will be staying and wants to “play with Cheong Jo (creepy). Soo Ryeon says that Cheong Jo is still learning but Gwan Woong promises not to touch her until she becomes a courtesan and just wants to look at her.



Cheong Jo is seated across from Soo Ryeon saying she would rather die than spend a minute in his presence. Soo Ryeon warns her that she doesn’t know what he may do if she refuses him again. Cheong Jo asks must she become the plaything of the man that killed her father? Soo Ryeon asks her what she would do if that is her fate since she can only do as she’s told and just to be wise and patient. Soo Ryeon tells her that it’s an opportunity for her to let out her anger at being unfairly judged.



Soo Ryeon orders the head maid to add one glass of Myoanjoo to Gwan Woong’s drinks.  The head maid asks why and Soo Ryeon places an envelope with the arrow symbol in front of her and says that they have to keep him at the gisaeng house for the next four days.



The gisaengs entertain Gwan Woong with song and dance while he eats. Bu Wan brings out a pitcher and watches as Gwan Woong drinks a cup. He remarks on it’s wonderful taste and asks for another cup. Bu Wan arrives requesting Gwan Woong to return and investigate the picture but Gwan Woong is perfectly content and doesn’t wish to leave.



Yeo Wool and Kang Chi are still trapped in the secret treasury room and the atmosphere is quite awkward. Kang Chi attempts small talk and keeps asking if Yeo Wool is okay. He notices that her arm is injured and remembers attacking her previously.  He says that they have to leave or she’ll get an infection but she refuses saying that they need to protect the money in order to ensure that the 12 naval ships get built.



Gwan Woong is getting very drunk and moves closer to Cheong Jo-he tells her that she’s beautiful and begins touching her face. He tells her that he never forgot about her , calls her Seo Hwa, and then proceeds to try to kiss her. Wol Sun tells him that he has had too much to drink as he lays down next to Cheong Jo.



His head minion suddenly comes in and demands that Wol Sun wake Gwan Woong. She tries but he simply rolls over and places his head in Cheong Jo’s lap. Soo Ryeon tells the head minion to return in the morning and has some servants carry Gwan Woong to a room to sleep.



Cheong Jo walks to her room and sees petals falling from a tree. She is reminded of the kiss she gave Kang Chi and starts to cry. She also thinks of Gwan Woong’s attempted kiss and falls slowly to the ground sobbing.



Back in the secret room, Kang Chi notices that Yeo Wool’s condition is getting worse. He keeps calling her Mr. Dam and she tells him to call her Yeo Wool before passing out. Kang Chi grabs her to keep her from falling and remembers that she was the girl he saved when they were children and she teased him about his fear of spiders. He also recalls all the moments that they’ve spent together up until this point.



Pyeong Joon discovers that Tae Seo is missing and none of his men can find him anywhere in the academy. Tae Seo walks toward the 100 Year Inn with a sword and enters. A servant spots him and tells him that everyone is looking for him but Tae Seo tells him to find Gon and create a distraction to save those trapped inside.  He then engages in battle with some of Gwan Woong’s guards while the servant alerts the guards standing watch and they rush to join the fight.



Gon Yi goes into the secret room and carries an unconscious Yeo Wool out. Tae Seo continues to fight the guards while Gon Yi places Yeo Wool in a cart and tells a servant to take her to the academy.



The servant and Kang Chi end up scaring each other when the servant opens the secret door. Kang Chi tells the servant he needs his help-the servant tears down a large piece of cloth as Gon Yi and Tae Seo fight the guards. Tae Seo tells Gon Yi to leave or else the academy could be at risk of being found out.



Bu Wan then walks toward Tae Seo and he remembers that he was the one who hypnotized him. He gets a painful headache and falls to the ground while remembering how to stop the hypnosis. He attempts to slice the Bu Wan’s throat but his sword stops before it even makes a cut. Bu Wan tells Tae Seo that he cannot kill him and commands him to lower his sword which he unwillingly does. Bu Wan then commands Tae Seo to tell him the real reason that he is there. Tae Seo involuntarily points toward the room under construction.



Bu Wan then takes a large hammer and starts pounding the panel/secret door. After making a hole he kicks the door open and walks inside to find the money.



Gony Yi relays the news to Pyeong Joon that secret room was discovered, the security tightened and Tae Seo was captured. Pyeong Joon fears all is lost but a servant says that they still have one hope left-Kang Chi is still in the secret room.



The Teacher is checking Yeo Wool who is still unconscious. Pyeong Joon repeatedly asks questions about Kang Chi while the Teacher tries to tell him about Yeo Wool’s condition (it’s really not cool how her dad is so unconcerned about her). Pyeong Joon asks if he sent Kang Chi to the secret room and the Teacher answers that they made a bet.



Bu Wan goes to the gisaeng house to get Gwan Woong but Soo Ryeon tells him that he doesn’t want to be disturbed but the Bu Wan demands to see him. Gwan Woong is sleeping with a gisaeng on his arm but awakes when Bu Wan mentions Lord Park’s secret room.  Gwan Woong heads back to the 100 Year Inn to see the servants packing up bundles onto carts-when asked Choi says that it is military food collections. the servant says it is a custom for the wealthy to collect food and deliver it to the navy.



Gwan Woong and Bu Wan enter the room and Bu Wan reveals the secret door. Gwan Woong takes a candle and enters the secret room. He stares and then angrily yells for Bu Wan. He enters and lights some torches around the room only to discover that the money is completely gone. They both ponder what could have happened when Gwan Woong spots a few bundles similar-looking to the ones that the servants were packing onto carts earlier. He orders Choi and Hong Man to brought to him immediately (oh dear).



The servants are brought to his room and thrown down at his feet. He asks them what was actually put in the carts. Choi once again says it was military food collections but Gwan Woong kicks him and warns that if anything besides food is found on the carts, that he will personally twist his neck and cut out his tongue.



Lee Soon Shin is conducting a meeting when a soldier comes in and tells him that there is a commotion outside.  Gwan Woong and his minions are gathered and he is staring at the carts packed with bundles. Gwan Woong asks to personally inspect the bundles because he believes that something was taken that shouldn’t have been. Lee Soon Shin tells one of his soldiers to let Gwan Woong see the carts and Gwan Woong’s minions rush to search them. They tear the bundles apart only to find that they’re full of straw and rice.



Choi heads into the secret room and tells Kang Chi that the plan worked and Gwan Woong and his men chased the carts. Choi asked if the silver is safe and Kang Chi pulls down a large piece of cloth that was covering the money.



 Lee Soon Shin berates Gwan Woong for ruining the food supply that would have lasted a month. He responds that there is no need for military rations when the country is not at war and promises to replenish what was ruined. Lee Soon Shin declares that the food is still usable and orders his men to pick up all the grains and take the sand out. He tells Gwan Woong that he may have owned the rice but was cultivated upon the sweat and blood of the people. He also adds that no food is to be received from the 100 Year Inn or people from there allowed on the Naval base. Kang Chi walks up and admonishes Gwan woong for wasting rice. Satan is irritated and asks why he keeps bothering him. Kang Chi replies that he was running an errand for Lord Park and walks past Gwan Woong leading carts full of chests. Bu Wan tries to chase after the carts but is stopped by the soldiers since no one from the 100 Year Inn is allowed to step inside the Naval base. Bu Wan questions how Kang Chi was able to get the silver out from the room and he replies that he’s not human.



 Gwan Woong returns to the secret room and throws a temper tantrum (I can’t wait until he dies a horribly slow and painful death).



All the chest of silver are now safely in the Naval base and Lee Soon Shin thanks Kang Chi for keeping his promise and asks Kang Chi how he likes staying the academy. Kang Chi says it’s fine except for a really uptight old man. Kang Chi then asks for the proof that Lee Soon Shin promised.



The Teacher is holding the Admiral’s hat in disbelief as Kang Chi says that he doesn’t lend it to just anyone and to be careful as he has to return it tomorrow. The Teacher tries on the hat and says that one of his life goals has come true. Kang Chi is overjoyed as he finally gets to eat chicken. Pyeong Joon and Gon Yi watch the pair and Pyeong Joon says that the Admiral might have been right when he said the Kang Chi was a lucky variable. A soldier asks Lee Soon Shin about his hat and he says that it will be returned tomorrow.



Tae Seo is brought before Gwan Woong who asks him if he has been hiding at Moohyung Martial Arts School. Bu Wan says that the academy is closely tied to the Admiral and that kang Chi is also staying there. Gwan Woong says he is letting Tae Seo go to find out what they plan to do with the silver and then report back. Tae Seo replies that he would rather die than be Gwan Woong’s dog. Gwan Woongs tells Tae Seo that if he doesn’t find out about the money and report back by the following night, that his sister will pay the price.



Tae Seo watches Cheung Jo from afar as two men bump into her and make her drop the liquor she was carrying, then they proceed to berate her.



 Yeo Wool awakes and remembers after passing out in the secret room. She rushes to talk to Kang Chi but suddenly recalls their awkward encounter.  He tries to feel forehead and says he was worried about her but she pushes him away and asks about the silver. She asks if the plan failed because of her. Kang Chi leans in close and answers that the reason he was fooled was because a woman wouldn’t be concerned about silver in a situation like this. She asks again and he assures her that he delivered it safely to the Admiral. Yeo Wool is overjoyed and grabs his hands and pats his hair before realizing how awkward this behavior is now that Kang Chi knows that she is female.



 She steps away from him and notices that he has a wound on his hand. She asks if it’s because of her and we flashback to her passing out in his arms. The blue lights appear and hover around her arm. Kang Chi then takes out a knife and cuts his hand, squeezing the blood onto her wound and healing it. Although he tells her not to worry she says that she doesn’t want him to get hurt.



Gwan Woong demands that Cheung Jo be sent to his room tonight despite Soo Ryeon‘s objections saying that he will take her first time tonight (oh you creepy, psycho pervert). Cheung Jo drops the tray she was carrying as she hears the news.



A blinded Tae Seo asks Kang Chi to take Cheung Jo out of the gisaeng house because something bad is going to happen to her (that’s the understatement of the year).

Good episode, I thought the trick used getting the silver out was pretty cool. Kang Chi skipped a few bases and discovered Yeo Wool’s true gender--finally. I kind of hope that Kang Chi doesn’t become human and learns to control his inner gumiho.

I loved this episode. Kang Chi finally knows Yeo Wool is a girl and progress in the romance department can start being made. I thought it was too funny how he kept looking at his hand like he was saying "what did you do?" Its interesting how he never mentions Cheung Jo or looks like he is thinking of her at all until Tae Seo asks him to save her. He should try of course but bummer for Yeo Wool who finally had his attention. What is Tae Seo really planning though? It sounded like a trap to me.
