The main characters are similiar and the story is rather similiar. Orthros also has an almost supernatural element like HTE does. That's the most I can say without giving away spoilers.
There is the same concept of a student following the aspect of being a detective. Yamada Ryosuke is also one of the supporting student detectives, and there is a similar amount of suspense.
They are similar in how the plot revolves around two brothers; one good, one bad. The 'good' brother is the one who aids the police in solving crimes, whereas the 'bad' brother likes to create chaos and drive the police around in circles trying to catch him. Both shows have the good brother trying to turn the bad brother over to his side, never giving up hope that there is some good left in him. Both involves mystery, murder and action.
With 'Hello Monster' however, the older brother is the good guy.

Both shows have a lot of suspense and action. The story is about a teenage boy that is involved (because of blood ties (in HTE) or by being a talented hacker (in BM)) in a struggle of law enforcement against terrorists. In both shows the protagonists gradually, step by step, find out the real intentions of the criminals and (may be) "save the world" in the end.
