The ending of Love Alarm Season 2 does make sense :)

I honestly don't write reviews on dramas and this is my first time writing, but I have to stand up for Hyeyeong. No matter what others say, I will stick with what I believe.

I am rooting for Hyeyeong right from the very start of this drama even most of the viewers were rooting for Sunoh. I agree that Sunoh and Jojo had a great chemistry but in terms of rooting the one for Jojo, I am for Hyeyeong. From what I have noticed, some people are just rooting for Sunoh because his character was played by Song Kang. But if you have watched both season, I know you will understand that Sunoh did nothing for Jojo and Hyeyeong is the one who deserves to be with Jojo.

It was Hyeyeong who first liked Jojo. Sunoh knew about what Hyeyeong feels towards Jojo and he is the first one to know but look at what he just did? He kissed Jojo. He kissed Jojo not because he is inlove, but because of curiousity. I honestly felt so bad for Hyeyeong at that time. I mean, how can Sunoh do that? Hyeyeong is his bestfriend but he kissed the girl his bestfriend likes.

So, fast forward. When Sunoh and Jojo oficially got into a relationship, Hyeyeong didn't try to come between them even once nor confess his feelings to Jojo until their break up.

In Season 1, we saw Sunoh and Jojo's love story but Season 2 is a new start. I am glad that there is no 2nd Lead Syndrome in this drama and Hyeyeong got what he deserves.

That's all I've got to say. PLEASE focus on the drama's story, not on the chemistry between the actors. Try to deepen your perspective and you will understand that the ending of Love Alarm Season 2 does make sense.

A trainwreck of a show

Where to begin?
This is the kind of show where every single person watching has its one perspective and insight of what it means and what the characters feel (mostly because the writers failed at their one job and we’re the ones left to pick up the pieces), so bear with my personal opinion.

First of all, I feel like this season is a whole nother drama. Almost as if they didn’t know in season 1 how the series would evolve. There’s no conductive line, it’s like the first season had its own place in time and then you start the second season with a whole new genre and essence. I think the fact that it was divided into 2 seasons didn’t help at all. For 2 years we were sold this love triangle plot that seemed like the main thing and then in the end of season 2 we find out the real purpose of the show (in my opinion) was to show what happens when someone who has a lot of trauma in her life tries to find comfort in romantic relationships to help her cope with her struggles. The result: heartbreak up and down, to that person and everyone around them. I actually think that’s an interesting approach actually and I think if they had done it on purpose, the drama would be a lot better and people would understand it more.

some highlights (good and bad) on the season itself:

-stunning cinematography in every single scene!

-the symbolism of the seasons (of the year and of the show), season 1 being the comfort of autumn and the second one being the spring, in which the cherry blossoms connected with the blooming of a more mature love and the cleaning up for a new start, the healing of the past and moving on to the future

-the production was on another level on this one and it showed the power of netflix, every single scene was shot incredibly with so much detail into it

-they way they disregarded Duk-gu and his suicide experience, making me him come back just to serve the plot and as mean to help the lead screw eveything up once again infuriates me. He was always negglected by his peers and by the writters aparently. i would really love to see more about his side of the story and understand him a little more. I also think he could have been more explored in this season regarding his come back and the relation with his brother. But i guess they really had to make the whole season about the never ending toxic and unhealthy choices of the FL.

-the main villain (Gul-mi) of season 1 became the comic relief of the second, it was a good call, she was much more likeable but i still think they ended up not going far with her character development

-I really liked the depth they gave to Hye‑yeong, it explained a lot of his actions and personality, and we didn’t just have to accept him as the typical best boy just because. The best written character of the drama in my opinion, the only one you actually came to know, what he liked, his hobbies and interests, and the way he saw the world, very real and tridimensional, unlike the other characters that to me just served the plot most of the time

- the dystopian shit they pulled with the app and how it affected the social interactions of an entire generation, where people don’t even rely on their feelings and trust in the app more than their own hearts, this was a plus, sometimes more interesting than the main plot, could have been more explored tbh, they could really went further with it.

-the scene where Yuk-jo says “we can't go on like this anymore can we” looking at Sun-oh with her eyes in tears and a smile… it really broke me inside, I think she did an incredible performance, since I saw her on season 1, I really liked her and the fact that she wasn’t your typical SL was so refreshing, one of my fav characters this season, really glad that she ended up with Sun-oh, I think he really liked her but was just too caught up in his first love where he never got any closure. However, I must say I find it really wrong the fact that this drama always tries to push the "i'm gonna fake that i love you until hopefully one day i wake up and i really do" idea. that's ridiculous, love doesn't work like that. It's really unhealthy even for a kdrama, and they did it in every conversation,/interaction/relationship. Sending some really messed up messages to everyone watching. Dangerous and irresponsible, plain out wrong in my opinion. For a drama that wanted to pierce our morals and make us question our own actions, it really missed the whole point.

-the scene when Jojo met with Sun Oh for the last time and the flashback of them running down the same road… i was devastated, not because I was rooting for them (at that point I was really at peace with where it was going) but to me they did it in a very beautiful way. I'm a crybaby but I didn't shed a tear the entire drama until that scene. I don't know if it was because of the nostalgic feeling or the fact that I'm just sensitive to goodbye scenes. The idea of saying goodbye to your first love really moved me and the fact they hurt each other so much but are now finally able to move one... I just couldn't handle it, it broke my heart when they looked at their younger selves. They were genuinely in love at the time, and it felt so painful to see how sometimes life happens and reality strikes and your life can change in a very drastic and painful way, leaving scars that could last a lifetime. It was heartwarming at the same time, to see those memories of the past of when they made each other smile and helped each other cope with the horrible world around them. a lot of feels indeed, one of the most heart shattering scenes of the drama but also one of the most pure, beautiful and intense one.

-JOJO…. i mean they ruined her character by making “being the victim” her only personality trait.
They took it way to far, and actually made her feel less real and nuanced, they lost her essence behind that label, i think it really made it hard for anyone to relate to her, feel sorry or understand her. To me I really think they gave her an exaggerated amount of obstacles, even the one healthy individual thing she had, her drawings, was used to give her more trauma and guilt. jesus christ, the girl couldn’t even draw without causing someone to die?! of course she’s not okay and only screws up, so much trauma and never once a visit to a therapist or a sign she was dealing with all the trauma the writers put her through.

-the breakup… i’m not even judging her reasons, but the way they wrote it was awful. Even in the end I would be okay with everything if it wasn’t for that main event that kinda started the entire plot of this season. You just can’t ignore it, because they made the plot all about it. It’s ridiculous the way they NEVER actually explained the why behind it, not to Sun-oh, not to us, they just moved along, always referring to it as the cause of the entire plot of the season, without actually explaining it. It’s not only disrespectful to the character that spent 4 years of his life heartbroken and traumatized, but to us that were invested in this show for 2 years. I really can’t understand how could a drama with such a high production level could make such a blunt stupid choice. It’s obvious that doing that would make everyone feel like something was missing and that the ending and everything that led to it were just wrong and empty. This particular choice really sabotaged the entire drama for me.

-the running scene, that for me was one of the best of the entire season, I really liked the symbolism of it. Maybe this is because healing dramas are my cup of tea but I really think this is what I wanted from her character all along, no boy drama, but to see her face the past and deal with it and be able to see her move on, I think it’s a plot much more adjusted to the tone of the drama, being that they always tried to portray it as something mature with symbolisms and traumas and very introspective, much more a fitting than a love triangle plot focused. However beautiful it was, it wasn’t therapy and that’s what Jojo really needs. She can’t be in a relationship until she fixes herself and that’s a process, it doesn’t happen overnight. The drama itself was all about how someone like that can hurt other people so the fact that in the end they gave her a love interest without any real growth blows my mind.

In conclusion, it was a mess. They had a lot of potential and good content, but they just did awful decisions and didn’t deliver any real and consistent idea. It’s a shame how they managed to turn a good drama into a common joke that will always be remembered as a trainwreck beginning to end. I feel sorry for the actors because they did their best and I’m genuinely curious about who approved this script and thought it would work. I hope they fire that person or else I would politely ask Netflix to stay away from the kdrama world. please.

Far better than season 1

Is it only me who liked this one far better than season 1 ?? The first was a disaster ... The second was Ok , could have developed many other characters too .. Sun Oh fans might be triggered . I liked Song Kang in Sweet Home .. But , this one , I don't even know what his intentions are . He appears so sad, seems like he is an orphan , victim , poor fellow with tragic accident . .. . He has so many who cares for him and it feels like he is the most disappointed one in the world and that too in a fantasy world .

I even thought jojo and sun -ho should end up , so that Hye-Young can get someone better . lol .. Fantasy , rom com are all genres i watch , but this show had no basic plot even , no character development , nothing ..The first season was so bad i rated it 5 and did even wanted waste reviewing it .. Also ,didnt want to watch season 2 and when many told its very bad , i thought it would be better .. They could have made it to a single season without Sun ho character and little more time in game development and family issues and school life ..

What a poop did I just watched!!!!

I never wrote any reviews before, but after watching this series I had to write one. I was so excited about Love alarm2. First one was nice but this season?!? Oh boy!! I WAS NOT SONGKANG FAN BUT AFTER FINISHING THE FIRST SEASON I BECAME HIS FAN ONLY. I hate Jojo and Hye yong both. What kind of terrible persons are they. They both used San-oh. They both and their chemistry was super boring. I skipped maximum of season 2. San-oh was the life of this show and he got nothing except crying. The ending was pathetic. Jojo was forcing herself to love hye yong, like why man why? She's nothing but a selfish bitch. He was the one who loved the girl first so what???? BULLSHIT!!! And the director and the script writer re you guys having weed while you were writing and making this show? Even my 12 years younger sister could write something better than this. You guys just used Songkang's face value and his fandom.

We supposed to enjoy K-drama not frustration, so wtf is this???
Ahhh! Such a DISGUSTING series I've just watched and highly recommending you to not watch it. It's not worth your time. This series will provide you nothing but HEARTACHE, FRUSTRATION, DEPRESSION, and obviously will make you HATE THIS DRAMA.
So if you watched the first season just stop there.

Waste of time. Do not watch.

I feel like this second season was a complete waste of time seeing as nothing changed between the end of season 1 and the end of season 2. The situation remained the same so season 2 might as well not exist. There was no character development whatsoever, unless you count Jojo becoming more and more irritating.

She's honestly the worst female lead I've ever seen in a drama. Are we supposed to feel sorry for her because of what her parents did? In season 1, because of the way Gul-mi and her aunt are treating her, we're led to believe that she did something terrible, but it turns out it wasn't her fault. I thought we'd learn something new in season 2 but nope, so I guess the way they treated her never made sense in the first place. She did nothing wrong, and also they kept saying she was mooching off of them, even though she worked two jobs and paid rent? Also, her aunt suddenly being nicer to her in season 2 was kinda random.

The whole Duk-gu plotline was so dumb. It was really obvious from the beginning that he and Brian were brothers because of the last name and how Jojo's friend says "they could be brothers" when they do the face analysis. Not sure if we were supposed to be shocked? And it looks like Duk-gu is supposed to be the good guy, but to me it just seems like he gave Jojo the shield so Hye-yeong would have a chance with Jojo because he felt sorry for him. So basically, he meddled with Jojo and Sun-oh's relationship? What a great guy.

Then there's Jojo acting like she liked Hye-yeong from the moment she saw him in the nurse's office in season 1, but there was no sign of her liking him at all until halfway through season 2, and all of it felt so forced. It felt like she was just pretending to like him out of pity. Seriously, what a boring character. He's dull and plain-looking and has no redeeming qualities. He's obsessed with Jojo and it's honestly pathetic how he's willing to date her even if she never likes him back just because he wants her by his side.

Jojo clearly liked Sun-oh up until she got the shield, and even after season 2 it's still not clear why she installed it other than "I was scared". Scared of what? Sun-oh helped her through her trauma on Jeju island, and then she just dumps him for no reason? She never does give him a decent explanation. Also, they mention her meeting Sun-oh's mom after the accident, but we never find out what happened or what was said. So many plotholes and things that lead nowhere. What was the point of Hye-yeong's dad being in prison? What was the point of the crazy guy who killed people because of The Ringing World? Why is Jojo suddenly this great artist in season 2? It's never mentioned at any point that she likes to draw, and no one is impressed by her talent when they discover that she's the artist. We know nothing about her other than she works two jobs to pay back her mom's debt and she's a compulsive liar who doesn't care about other people's feelings.

All the characters were awful, except for Sun-oh and, surprisingly, Gul-mi. She was believable as a mean girl (even if her reason to hate Jojo made no sense) and she was passionate about things. First, becoming an idol, then becoming a content creator, and then becoming a member of the Badge Club. She had more character development than all the other characters combined.

Sun-oh came off as a bit creepy in season 1 at first when he brought Jojo in an alley and asked if he could kiss her, but it's later clear that no one in his life has ever liked him and that she's the only one that makes him feel something positive. It's ridiculous that he apologises to Jojo after reading her instagram post as if her non-explanation somehow justifies the way she treated him. And again, season 2 didn't solve or explain anything. Sun-oh is still as hurt and confused in the end as he was at the end of season 1 and he's stuck with a girlfriend he'll probably never like, if we're to believe what Yuk-jo tells Jojo outside the store.

So, what's the moral of the story supposed to be exactly? The very first scene of season 1 makes it seem like the point is that Love Alarm is a terrible invention, which is further reinforced by the fact that it divides the population (What happened to the Anti-Love Alarm people btw?) and causes suicides and crimes, but Duk-gu says it was meant to be invented? Why is he against Love Alarm 2.0 if it helps prevent suicides? Also, how can he be against 2.0 if his goal was for Jojo to consider Hye-yeong as a potential boyfriend? Instead of giving her the shield, wouldn't she have seen Hye-yeong on the list with 2.0 anyway? I think I'm thinking too hard about this poorly-written mess.

Look somewhere else if you want fluffy romance

I was lucky enough to have binge watch this, instead of waiting for so long waiting to get the happy ending we didn't get in season 1.
This drama is definitely not for someone looking for a happy ending you expected, but there is a happy ending.
Just like in real life, you fall in love and for one reason or another you break up, and later in life fall in love again. You don't always end up with your childhood or highschool sweet heart. You may not even end up with someone you fall head over heels for. You may end up like JoJo (and Sun Oh too), finding someone that love you and support you unconditionally and you learn to love and appreciate them eventually. Criticize all you want, but love is not always about a happy ending you want, sometime it's a happy ending you need. And learn to be happy with your choice in life.
For me, Jojo learned to really love Hye Yeong proven by her effort to remove the shield, to give him the assurance he needed through the app. That's one thing I dislike from this whole theme, how people put their trust on technology to find out if someone truly love you.

Disappointed

After waiting 2 years for season 2, I ended up feeling very disappointed. This season felt frustrating and depressing to watch I almost stopped watching after ep 3. Season 1 felt lighthearted and cute with its serious moments, but it didn’t feel too serious. The soundtrack sucked and they reused some old songs from the first season which is pretty lazy imo, the wardrobe wasn’t as good as the first season, and there was a lot of unanswered questions. If they could redo the second season with the first director that would be lovely.

Disappointed

I was very disappointed with the ending and it didnt make sense. From begining of season 2 her relationship with the 2nd lead felt forced where as the 1st lead held her heart and even with that she ended up with the 2nd lead.

It felt like she was forcing herself. She never gave explanation to SO. I was hoping for a twist at the end where JJ and So get back together. BUT the writers had somethinh else in mind. I honestly did see any passion or chemistry betwee JJ and the 2nd lead.

I was hoping to rewatch it but it was heart breaking the 1st time why should i??

Oh hell, I don't even know where I should start.

I really think it's not wrong to admit that many, and the appeal of this drama, watched this for Song Kang. During the first season everything was centered on Sunoh and Jojo, but in the second season this changed completely and if you watched it 10 seconds it was a lot.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not angry because Jojo did break up with Sunoh (in fact it was for the best because she literally played and trampled his feelings. She didn't deserve Sunoh as the "second") , but because of the mistreatment the director gave him, when he was the lure of the drama.

And I want to say something, Sunoh was not a bad person. He was the most honest character; he didn't "steal" anything from his friend. He gave her many opportunities to admit that she liked Jojo and even told her that she had to choose. Her friend just fell silent, chasing her like a bloody stalker.
He was sincere with Jojo, as well as his girlfriend. He never lied or played with anyone. It was just direct and doing what he wanted to do, without lying to anyone.

His friend played good person and Jojo ... OMG, I don't even know what to say. I think her cousin ended up being a better person than her. Having a sad past does not justify playing with people's feelings. Jojo wasn't one bloody honest time, not even out of compassion. She just ran away, as always. She didn't care who she hurt in the way, only his fucking feelings mattered.

Everything was so badly executed. The ost was crap and the only thing that stood out was the cinematography. I already knew who I would end up with, I just hoped they did something decent but they had 2 years to make a fucking disappointment.
The message is lost in the face of such sloppiness. I really don't recommend anyone to see this. And if you want to see it, just watch the first season until chapter 6, which is the only recommed.
