The drama isn't about who Jojo end up with, but how the choice is hers and not based unseen force

I've never written a review of a drama before, but after skimming some of the comments and other reviews I decided to just go for it.

While I understand how the second season may come as a disappointment or be confusing for some people, I have to say that I actually really liked it. I was looking forward to watching it for more than a year, but when it dropped I was swarmed in work and projects, so I ended up binging it yesterday. In the lights of that, I must say how difficult it was processing everything.

While I certainly didn't expect such ending or development, I must say that it makes perfect sense to me. The love triangle usually is such a boring, overused trope, but what I loved here was how Jojo had to work through her feelings first and not only her but Sun-oh, too. They proved something I rarely see in Asian dramas - that just love is not always enough. Hye Young is maybe the most consistent character - going through so much just to be with Jojo. What I did found unrealistic though was how easily and fast was held the conversation between Jojo and Sun Oh.

In my opinion the drama wasn't so much about who Jojo would end up with, but how the choice is purely ours and based on respect and consistency not on some unseen force (be it even a love alarm).

One of the most admirable things about the drama is the character development (while remaining some consistency of character) of Gul Mi (Jojo's cousin) and Jung Mi Mi (Sun's mother). In that aspect I definitely wish there was more plot and story. Really wish there was more to the story line of Duk Goo.

Unpopular opinion

So, I don't write a lot of reviews, but this drama had way too many negative reviews, I couldn't resist.
Now, JoJo and Hye Young pairing, though many may disagree, made much more sense. I will forever be grateful to the writers for making this into one of the rare dramas where the guy steadfastly and patiently in love with girl finally won her over. I loved their relationship, it was much more stable and mature, the kind of relationship that works in the long run.
The scene where the endgame couple said 'I love you' instead of letting the app ring felt much more genuine, after all machines are algorithm-based while our feelings are unpredictable. You cannot imagine the smile on my face and the tears in my eyes I had when this scene happened coz I was so happy for them. I like that how in the end, although JoJo and HyeYoung will never know, we get to see how many times JoJo's heart fluttered for HyeYoung.
Also, Sun Oh's ending line where he doesn't care if he makes the alarm ring but is just going to trust his feelings and keep on pursuing Yuk Jo, really brought through the message this drama wanted to convey.
In the end, it's all about our choices and feelings.
I really hope the negative reviews don't stop you from watching this drama ♥♥♥

A disappointment but not for the reason that most might think...

I actually don't mind Hyeyoung and Jojo ending up together despite being a Sunoh and Jojo shipper from season 1. I like Sunoh more in season 1 because he has history with Jojo. He was there for her when no one else was. He may be a cold character to others but when it comes to Jojo, he was so warm towards her. People may not like Sunoh because they think he's arrogant but the thing is that he was never mean or arrogant towards Jojo though. He was surprisingly very sweet when it comes to her. & I guess that's the reason why I initially shipped him with Jojo more.

On the other hand, I grew to like Hyeyoung in the last half of season 1. He was super passive in the first half so the change in his character in the second half was great. I find that change very welcoming because it was also the reason why I like Sunoh more than him initially because Sunoh was so much more proactive. So the more confident and proactive Hyeyoung definitely won me over. Hyeyoung is a nice guy and he treats Jojo well and I think that's enough for Jojo. & also feelings can change with time so it's definitely plausible that she would move on.

Not saying Sunoh deserves Jojo less though because he was actually an incredibly sweet boyfriend to her but Jojo unfortunately ruined the relationship herself. I say that, in this context, she actually does not deserve Sunoh so it's better this way. Sunoh deserves someone who loves him unconditionally and who won't break his heart without giving any reasons like Jojo did. He's way better with Yukjo and all that's left is for him to finally open his heart up to her and forget about the past.

However, I do have to say that season 2 was a bit of a let down. & I'm saying this as someone who supports the end game. People assumed that some don't like season 2 because of the end game. While that is true for some, but I'm pretty sure there are a lot more who share the same sentiments as me.

Season 1 was full of tension, fast-paced and actually has an interesting plot. There was also a sense of suspense in some scenes that incites curiosity. Season 2, however, felt rather meaningless and easy? The pacing was super slow and the plot was quite non-existent. It almost felt like a completely different drama from season 1 because the pacing and even the directing and vibes felt so different this time round.

All in all, it just feels like a super long music video to me.
6 episodes of just endless wistful staring with a few 'romantic' moments between the leads with music playing in the background...

Story-wise... it was just super bland.
The actors and OST were great though!

might traumatize you for life

I was so used to the second lead not getting the girl at that point that I was relaxed and was sure that the main lead would get the girl but oh was I wrong. I was so annoyed with how Jojo thinks, she literally never had feelings for Hye Yeong but still chose him? KNOWING how that would hurt Sun oh???? SIS U HAVE FEELINGS FOR ANOTHER MAN AND DECIDE TO URT HIM BY DATING HIS BEST FRIEND WITHOUT ANY REASONS???????????????? anyways I do not recommend this Kdrama unless you are a second lead shipper.

disappointment

I liked love alarm quite a lot and I had big expectation. Probably that is why I’m so disappointed. Season 1 ended with a big cliffhanger. I was really curious to see the ending of that scene. But no. We just jump ahead. And after that, everything is just crazy boring. I simply don’t get how the characters thinks and their motivation and therefore most of the drama between them. And in the last episode, possibly the worst, it look like the screenwriters weren’t sure if their message come across, so they make the characters explain everything, just in case you weren’t bored enough already. The secondary storyline about the murders is totally forced in this contest and unnecessary to the main storyline. Don’t watch this, just imagine how you want love alarm to end end stick with it. Song Kang, i still like you, can’t wait for you next project.

Worst romance kdrama i have ever watched

When someone tells you "it was good but i hated the ending" do not watch it because nine times out of ten you'll hate that ending even worse. That's how i feel about season 2. I absolutely detested jojo. She is so selfish. After hurting the guy who loved her for her own personal problems and then trying to act like she was doing it for him, she then proceeds tO fAlL iNlOvE with his bestfriend. The guy she literally didn't even know existed. Smh. If you're considering watching it, don't. Garbage. The only reason this doesn't get 1 star is because of the ost-literally saved the entire season.

Don't even think about Love Alarm 1

Honestly, I feel SO BAD for the people for waited two damn years for this ending. I only waited a few weeks but it's not compared to what other people had to wait for.
Let me start off with Season One. This was my first kdrama so I had zero idea what were ML's, SML's, FL's and SML's. (Male Lead, Second Male Lead, Female Lead, Second Female Lead) I initially thought Sun-oh and Jojo were gonna have this happy ending sh*t because they got together in Season One. It wasn't clear that Hye Young was even a first lead in my opinion. Throughout Season One, Hye Young and Jojo had no screen time with each other. So I was puzzled on even how they got together out of the blue in Season Two. Honestly Sun-oh was some what of a bad friend. Sun-oh knew that Hye Young liked Jojo, no matter how much Hye Young said he didn't. Yet kissed her. Not saying I ship Hye Young and Jojo because those two have no chemistry with each other. They only have one thing, is that they're hard workers. That's it. Honestly, for my first kdrama that I watched months ago. It wasn't all that bad. It taught me that I have to now watch the hell out for other kdramas with the ML and FL.
Honestly, unless you didn't ship Jojo and Sun-oh, watch this if you want something to laugh at. And no I'm not giving it a bad review because Jojo and Sun-oh didn't get together. It's just that this shit felt like a different drama.
ALSO! Jojo was one of the worst FL's I've come across from. In Season One AND Two. Jojo NEVER told Sun-oh the reason they broke up. Jojo walked away from him for a lousy reason. My point across that Jojo never cared about Sun-oh's feelings to beginning with. I'm glad Sun-oh was at least with somebody who didn't give up on him. Not saying I love Yuki and Sun-oh but I'm happy for Sun-Oh.
-- Also, this is an old review so I might not agree with this so much but I'll keep it here and edit it sometimes! (6/25)

A Hit or a Miss!

First of all, I would like to mention that the story of the second season would either be a hit or a miss for most people.

I usually avoid writing reviews as there are many already for this drama but since I really liked the story of this second season and there were mostly negative reviews I felt strongly to write it.

The second Season of Love Alarm portrays a highly sophisticated and mature theme, unlike the first season. As already mentioned in many reviews this could be a result of a change of directors but since I watched both seasons in one setting I did not feel that was the case and felt it natural as part of the time gap of the drama and that the characters are now older and mature.

The most realistic and nostalgic drama that I ever watched

I understand that most of the views may be form teenagers, so I understand most of the frustration. But I mean it when I say that this drama is beautifully and sincerely made. The ending is so so real. And I thank to all the production for giving us this drama, as it is.

The story is strong and for some people it may be boring, but life is as boring as it is. We don't always know what to do or what to think about our feelings or others. Life is about choices and situations. And so it was for Jojo.

I'm really happy to watched this drama and I hope everybody can understand this story beyond the pretty faces.

Love,
Mariana.

Not a satisfying watch

This is going to be more of a rant than a review so those who like this series please skip reading.
What worked well - the beautiful cinematography, ost music, new concepts being explored.
However instead of a feel good romantic drama as one would expect based on the title, this one turned out to be melancholic and weepy. Most of the time the FL is seen crying or silently ruminating. Sun Oh who was the main FL in the first season is understandably angry, confused and upset, unable to move on from the sudden end to his first close relationship - he never got closure from JoJo despite repeatedly approaching her to understand. All he wanted and was entitled to was an honest conversation with JoJo so that he could make sense of the past and move on in life. Kim JoJo was an immature coward, that too a selfish one who didn't care to give any explanation. Sun Oh was always kind to her and saved her from public humiliation by openly offering his hand to her in the classroom in the first season. However towards the end she is seen publicly humiliating him by showing that her alarm does not ring for him any more, despite having her own selfish reason she never clarifies why nor cares how much heartbreak her decision and lack of closure would cause. I couldn't empathise with her idiotic decision as Sun Oh had been nothing but kind and supportive of her all the while, and an honest conversation with him him would have been enough to keep the relationship alive.
As for Hye Young, he was the only character which had some development. From being a creepy stalker kind of person who loved JoJo without even being on speaking terms with her, he went to openly expressing his interest and courting her. He was also a lousy friend to Sun Oh, cutting off all ties with him and moving out of home without even informing him.
I felt all the sympathy more for Sun Oh character more than the JoJo or Hye Young. He lost his love, his friend, his smile and his girlfriend in between because of lack of open communication from JoJo. If JoJo could be excused for her fears, why couldn't Sun Oh be excused for his justified anger? If JoJo could love someone again, why didn't she choose Sun Oh who was still in love with her, someone she is attracted to and had left in the lurch. Why go for Hye Young?
Using the sword and the shield for selfish reasons is cheating. Hiding the reason from someone you like is also a kind of betrayal. I wished both Sun Oh and Hye Young had walked away from her towards the end and taught her a lesson to be honest to deserve a relationship with either of them.
The only satisfactory part is that Sun Oh deserved a warm and honest girlfriend rather than JoJo and therefore in a way it was good he didn't end up with her. The gloomy reticent JoJo and the morose glum Hye Young deserved each other.

disappointed

tldr: im no drama producer but the change in director threw this show down the drain. don't change the tone to seem more adult and mature if you can't follow through with the character development and dont add dystopian type elements if you're going to leave the storyline hanging. oh and holy shit please give sunoh a real apology??

-

i dont really write reviews but dear god do i have a lot to say about this drama. i dont know if im even going to bother watching episode six as i've read the spoilers but i still think i can express my thoughts without fully seeing episode six. i want to preface this with my problems dont come from the hy x jj endgame, i know a lot of negativity is being written off for that reason but for what it's worth my own problems with the drama are more than the endgame.

listen if you want to tell your writers to go off the rails and let your new director take a completely different direction i'm in no place to stop you but i dont think i've ever seen it be done as bad as this. love alarm is a fantastic concept (the forever unmuted phone problem aside) and im disappointed it turned to this. i knew it would feel different - they're adults and far more mature than they would have been in season one but it didnt feel mature. it felt like they were trying to make me think everyone had grown up and the characters had developed even though they were still being written as kids in adult bodies. that's what made almost everything about jj/so/hy's interactions feel so forced to me.

in season one i could feel bad for jojo. when she said she put up the shield to 'protect' sunoh i could acknowledge that was a stupid decision that could have been fixed with communication but i understood why she did it, especially considering she was a kid. in season two she never considered either sunoh or hyeyoungs feelings and yet jojo kept being written as the victim? like how could you expect me to feel bad for her? shes an ADULT now... why is she still doing all that running she did as a literal teenager? she put up that shield without considering sunoh's feelings but i wrote it off as her being a kid. then four or so years later she never actually apologises to sunoh properly and would probably have let him live with the heartbreak if he didn't confront her after finally finding out what she did after all these years. she never considered how hyeyoung might feel about receiving that spear. when he first talks to sunoh about it in ep5 he's clearly gutted and emphasies to jojo later on that he would wait for her as long as her actions were sincere, implying he understands how the spear's love (for lack of better phrasing) wasn't actually real.

there are going to be parts in shows where you get confused, where you think that a different direction should have been taken. but when i'm consistently confused as to why this character would keep doing this thing then there's clearly something wrong. by ep three me and my friend were barely paying attention. everything we saw just made us irritated and we were so bored of seeing jojo keep running from her problems but not before trying to 'fix' them exclusively in her favour of course! there was no attempt at all to develop her character, she kept running and adding more fuel to the fire and then running again. sunoh wasn't developed well either, he was kept as this sad teen boy who's life revolves around whether jojo likes him or not and i get that the shield situation broke his heart but they're OLDER and MATURED and DIFFERENT now. if you're going to change the whole tone of the show to try and make it seem more adult then you need to develop the characters too.

parts i did like and things that could have been tweaked a little to become better imo. i thought gulmi was super funny, especially when she was going so out of her way to gain hearts. sure she's not really a good person but i found the things she did and her personality quite fun despite being as irritating as she was in season one. somehow she feels like the only character they tried to develop. i also found the dead bodies thing and the whole ringing world instagram account interesting but it felt like they just left it at what we had in season one. they threw in a couple shots of the dead bodies in this season, had a couple scenes that referenced it when jojo looked at her drawings and that was basically it. overall, i felt like the show was structured quite poorly? parts of plots were thrown in and moved on from too quickly and some like the dead bodies were just left undeveloped. but i think that's just a me being stupid thing lmao. oh i also liked yukjo too, i wish they built her up a bit more rather than just being sunoh's girl because this whole thing must have had a huge effect on her. this was truly such a waste of a great cast.

final thoughts, im incredibly disappointed as this had so much potential. nothing felt logical, jojo did things for what felt like no real reason and there was no real apology from her for literally everything she's done. there wasn't enough character development and i really felt like i was watching a different show. in season one i was absolutely jj x so endgame because they were just so happy together but now i would've just preferred no endgame. i couldn't see her and sunoh happening again from the beginning but i really don't get why they put her back with hyeyoung? no chemistry no real love no nothing between them. it felt so forced. also dont throw in dystopian type elements (the ringing world, whatever dukgu and brian had going on?) if you're not going to pull through.

edit: just finished episode six and my opinion still stands.

Worst kdrama ever

This is what happens when Netflix gets involved. It revolves around money and their need to make a season 2 out of it. It was so slow paced and boring that I had to skip the endless flashbacks, slow motions and scene cuts the whole time. There is no character development and they skip over important parts pretty quickly, but drag out the unnecessary parts where the characters walk in slow motion. Also, all characters except for the one who’s getting nothing out of it, seem to be bad people. These characters are far from realistic.

The only reason I kept watching was because of Sun Oh’s good looks. I hate it and I don’t want to watch Netflix Original kdrama’s again.
