His (2020)

Both take place in the Japanese countryside, so very beautiful scenery and shots. They're very calming shows that unpack a lock of individual development. They also both deal with family themes.

Though they depict very different relationships (Restart being a slow, new romance and His being a complicated, "finding each other again" romance), the feeling of a heartwarming, beautiful love is strong in both.

Both movies are about an LGBT parent or parents forming a bond/family with a child and the pressures/criticisms they all have to face due to the prejudice and discrimination present in society.

This a prequel which could be watched before or after His (2020). Both of this could be a stand alone feature. However, I recommend them as to familiarize with the characters.

Both films are about highschool boys who fall in love. One ends up leaving the other despite the other's being deeply in love with him. Years go by, they meet again, and old feelings rise to the surface.

Years later around the time Shun is about to graduate from university, Nagisa tells him that he can't see a future with him. They make the decision to break up despite Shun’s still strong feelings. Years later, Shun lives alone in a rural area, working as the owner of his own store. But what happens when Nagisa unexpectedly shows up with his 6-year-old daughter Sora, and Shun still harbours feelings for Nagisa. As they begin spending time with each other, can Nagisa accept the feelings he knows have been there all along.

Kosuke and Ryuta become attracted to each other and they sometimes spend time with Ryuta's mother. Kosuke is happy to share time with Ryuta and his mother, which makes him remember his late mother. Kosuke and Ryuta make an appointment to go for a drive together, but, on that day, Ryuta does not show up.

Both films are quite similar in many ways. The stories in both films are based in countrysides. The films are about the gay struggles which most LGBT couples experience in real life. I love such kinds of films. One of the male lead is gay father with daughter.

These three people have connections to the man in different ways, including his ex-girlfriend, the manager of a rugby club where the man played, and his ex-boyfriend. While struggling with their own lives, these three people begin to meet and have meals together. Oda Chiharu worked as a designer for a company she has long coveted to work for, but, due to bullying by her boss, she quit her job. She finds pleasure in cooking and serving her food to other people. When she is alone, she often eats food from the convenience store. Nakamura Seiko works in the PR department for a cosmetics company. Being influence by her family, she has grown up with the idea that marriage is mandatory and not optional. She now has a strong desire to marry, but her fiancé, who works in the same department, suddenly breaks off their engagement. Amagai Eiji worked as a designer for an advertising agency, but he was suddenly transferred to the sales department. He doesn’t know what he wants to do anymore. He is a gay man, but he hasn't revealed his sexual orientation to his parents.

They both are calm, beautiful shows. There're relationship and family problems to be solved + realistic character developments.. two shows with mature love stories

Both have a similar feel to it. One is old love (His) and one is unrequited love, but soon find themselves in a complicated relationship of sorts, both stories have good slow pacing and have good cinematography. TCMDOC has a more open ending for the couple, whereas His is definitely a happy ending. Both films close, leaving you with a sense of optimism for the couples. I truly enjoyed both films, I’d definitely say if you liked one then you should give the other a try :) I definitely wasn’t disappointed!
