Overall, it was a good series but a bit painful to watch. Consent is sexy as they say. If this was prevalent in the series it would give it perfect score.

Watching this in 2024 is not worth it.
"TharnType: The Series" garnered acclaim during its release year; however, revisiting it in 2024 reveals a somewhat disappointing experience. Perhaps the series' reception was influenced by the demographic and the state of BL genre development in 2019, which may have been less mature compared to later years. The casting and storyline, while adequate, fail to leave a lasting impression, lacking the depth necessary to captivate viewers who have since been exposed to more refined offerings within the genre. Despite its initial acclaim, the series falls short in providing substantial character development beyond surface-level exploration, particularly in its handling of conflicts and narrative pacing.
Furthermore, the editing issues and excessive focus on intimate scenes detract from the overall viewing experience, making it difficult for the series to strike a balance between romantic elements and a cohesive storyline. While "TharnType: The Series" may have resonated with audiences in its time, it ultimately struggles to hold up to the evolving standards of the BL genre, leaving much to be desired for viewers seeking a more nuanced and engaging narrative.

1st Reason: The plot/storyline of the series is seemingly realistic which targeted the mainstream modern era of society, where the LGBTQ (especially gays) are still ridiculed by homophobic persons. It tackled some of society's real issues on how the gay community must pave their way to gain full trust and acceptance to those people around them. It was amazing how the writers made a punch in delivering this plot to the audiences wherein they will understand better the LGBTQ community.
2nd Reason: The portrayal of the emotions given by each actor of the series is commendable. The conflicts of emotion on how a straight man finally overcame and accepted a proud gay man was dynamic. I was appalled by the fact the series showed that there may be cases wherein straight people don't need to be "gay" in order to fall in love with gay people. Simply overwhelming.
3rd Reason: I was in awe knowing that there are straight people who're willing to be bottom. O_O
4th Reason: The elements of the story are almost seemingly perfect.
5th Reason: If for any reason you don't want to try to watch this and choose to ignore, then be my guest. I can say that you're already missing half of your lifetime.
Simply, PERFECTION! I cannot wait to have the TharnType 2, that's why I need to survive this global pandemic. Love from the Philippines! - SNP

Ok. So the non-con aspect of this show really squicked me. Where Tharn comes onto Type when he knows Type hates gay people, and he keeps pushing that line. Type crossing the line with Tharn's personal stuff also was problematic for me, but I know stuff like that really does happen when it comes to roommate conflicts, even when they aren't about such personal issues. But Tharn giving drunk Type hickeys and then forcing a BJ on Type in the bathroom was bad. Especially after he's witnessed Type's Trauma and Nightmares. Some of Gulf's expressions are weird. Like when he's at the bar (especially in the 2nd special) listening to the band play. But I actually love what Gulf brings to Type, that he gives Type a harsh accent and abrasiveness.
I like that Type doesn't take shit from anyone. I like that he's a bossy bottom. I hate possessiveness but somehow I like it on Type. But I don't like that he hits Tharn. That really annoyed me. I mean I get that it was alluded to they were a little into pain play, but I'm pretty sure Tharn did consent to being kicked in the nuts of punched or slapped just because Type was jealous. If that happened to a female, it would be partnership violence, so that same goes for a male partner. There are ways he could have expressed it without being abusive towards Tharn, I feel. IDK. Maybe I'm being too pedantic. IDK.
I like Tharn, for the most part. Apart from the non-con in the beginning. I love that he's a monogamist - that he puts all his eggs in that one basket. I love that about him. Also, he cries so pretty (that scene from the intro when he's all red eyed and nosed and hugging type from the back because of reason that are spoilery). I don't know why they put so much make up on Mew though. I get that they were trying to make him look younger, but they just made him look so cakey because of it. They should have just let him be. He's gorgeous as it is and some guys look older. It's a thing.
Techno. I LOVE THIS TECHNO. He is ADORABLE! I Also love this Champ.
Tum - This Tum was HOT like BURNING! That smoldering glare he gave Tharn in Episode 1. *shivers down my spine*. I didn't know their history. I totally thought they were gonna have a go at each other in the bathroom at school. hahaha.
Overall, I really enjoyed this series. The chemistry between Mew and Gulf is amazing. And they are really beautiful together. The story was interesting. I enjoyed the time skip as well - and finding Type more comfortable in his own skin. I look forward to the second series.
I really liked the title track. It is so catchy (even if the lyrics are a little sketchy). I also like the song Tharn sings to Type in the final episode. <3

Actors vs. Content
Im going to start wif the end, why? The plot took a drastic turn and made an (almost-perfect) love story into a mystry-blackmail-horror.If u like both lead actors, you will love this series. But if u also want good script and content, then u may be quite disappointed.
Both Mew and Gulf acted well. Gulf was superb, very likeable. Mew's character was intrusive and creepy, given the script that Gulf was sexually abused by another man before. His fear is real for a lot of people. To fall for someone who gives you hickies while you are asleep? Very creepy.
Just when u thought ok, the story is getting alright, the plot suddenly changes direction and goes into LA Law/Nancy Drew mystery. Incomprehensible.
Mew took much effort to get into character for the last few episodes and not his fault that the script ended in that direction. I had more questions than empathy for him at that point.

If you under 15 i think you should wait
this series is story between type who hatr gay and tharn who are gay. the reason why type hate gay becouse he was raped by a person who work for his family, but after tharn know's it type change day by day. the most suprising thing is when type ask tharn to have sex with him. so im not recomended this bl series if you not enough age to watch it. if you already you can watch it. i was pity with tar couse he was still in high school and get drug and raped. the reason type not do anything and can get closer to tar is they had same trauma. and can't wait for the season 2. i hope they're love is keep same for 7 years later.Esta resenha foi útil para você?
At first, i was hesitant to watch this cause the poster is not that eye catching, but when I watch until the episode 2, the story get more exciting. On how the story progress, from hate to love, enemies to lovers. Oh my God, I envied them even though its just a drama. Hoping to watch the 2nd season...
KUDOS... LOVE ... LOVE... LOVE...

The actors are on sync and the story telling was done right!
There's no unnecessary plots and the scenes are captivating and believable at the same time.
Even the OST is amazing Kaownah's "be mine" amazingly matched the story.
I've seen a lot of BL with kissing/love scene but TharnType sets it self apart by making their scenes so HOT without looking cheap!
I would highly recommend this one to everyone out there!
But I'm warning you this will get you hooked and probably live you daydreaming about it for quite a while.

I don't think I've loved a BL drama this much since Together With Me. I couldn't stop watching and stayed up until 3am two nights in a row because I couldn't stop. I've completely fallen in love with TharnType (and MewGulf too ugh help). I know a lot of people don't like Type because he's hot-headed, aggressive, and overly jealous, but I think all of those things make his character more human. Gulf's acting skills are really incredible. Gulf isn't anything like Type in real life, yet he was able to bring to life this character that is easily unlikeable because he's so human. That being said - Type's growth is incredible. From the first episode to the drama special, you can really see just how much he's grown (and how much Tharn has helped him achieve this growth). While I'm still not sure he's accepted his sexuality, I find it incredible that he's able to love not just Tharn, but himself. When the last episode jumps forward to three years later...*chef's kiss*. That's just what I needed -- TharnType openly in love, holding hands, acknowledging their boyfriend-ness. It just made me realize how much Type has grown. Again -- human!!!!
Of course I love Tharn, too. Soooooo much. Mostly because Mew is basically a god but. I mean. Look at him. That smile is enough. I felt like Tharn's character experiences less growth than Type, but Tharn still grew with him. I think dating someone that's so hot-headed, easily jealous, and struggling with his own sexuality was a new experience for Tharn, and that really forced him to think differently. Plus, the final episodes of the series worked to show Tharn that he's not "cursed" -- he just had a really toxic person in his life treating him like a puppet. That realization definitely takes weight of your shoulders.
As for the other characters -- of course I loved them. Their friends were so funny, and I loved the support they received no matter what. It was really heartwarming. Everyone just wanted them to be together and happy. I really felt this in the drama special too; the way Tharn & Type's relationship is just immediately accepted (also as if everyone shipped them all along lol).
The music was great too. I'm still listening to the OST because I just can't move on sobbb.
I'm definitely going to rewatch this. Probably multiple times, ha. I'm also looking forward to TharnType 2. I hope tons of people watch this drama and appreciate it for what it is. I didn't want to comment too much on some of the heavier subjects introduced because I think those are touchy for a lot of people (they seem to make or break the drama for them), but for me, I just spent the entire time in love with Tharn and Type and I was really happy with TharnType The Series.
