I'm not going to analyze the story deeply nor will I give any spoilers so maybe if you're just trying to figure out whether to watch it or not, hope this helps.
I don't think the actual concept of the story is anything original but I'm really suprised at how unpredictable they were able to make it. The time flew by and I didn't feel that there were any dull moments in the plot. Very well written overall.
Acting was great and the cinematography was amazing. I've watched some works with Park Shin Hye and I really liked Jeon Jong Seo in Burning, so I expected good acting and I wasn't disappointed.

*This might be a spoiler, maybe not.*
Even though I didn't really like the ending, that won't affect my rating because I don't think a happy or satisfying ending has to always be the goal in movies. This whole movie made me feel pretty unsettled and anxious but in a good way if that makes sense? (my english vocab isn't the best but I'm trying to think of words to describe my feelings, please understand hehe)
If you like open endings and psychological stuff, this will suit you really well.
I finished watching it maybe 15 minutes ago and I think I need a moment to do some thinking.
In short: Not for people who don't bother to think after or aren't capable of understanding "deep" stories in the first place.

transitions of past and present

the reason I watched this movie is because of Park Shin Hye. I am an avid fan, She really did great acting in this movie. really applaud her. The overall movie was great I was so pulled really into the movie. I always like the time travel genre, this movie is so cool that it how the past affects the present time in the movie. But I have never have seen such a thrilling time journey where the lead is hunted in the past. while the lead also trying to find ways to save herself and her family in the present. really cool.

Recommendable to watch

We love a future without cancer

The actors did a great job! And i don't regret watching. But this ending was lazy.

If you just watched the movie and thought:
"This was so smart because after the credits scene you realize that the wicked one woke up faster than the lead's mom, so ended up killing her and kept the lead a prisoner for 20 years, mirroring the start of the movie."

This was exactly what the screenwriter tried to convey, but the timeline doesn't add up.

The movie only presents a new future, when things are set and done (for the time being). immediately after someone survives or dies the future adapts afterwards. Meanwhile on this brand new future before the credits, the lead had enough time to search for her mom at the hospital (idk why... cause this whole going back cured her cancer in every alternative future LMAO), at the police station and also had time to run to the cemetery and meet her mom there. So this new future was somehow set. Going "back" to hear that phone call that was made before the cop and the mom arrived, warning the wicked that she would die doesn't make much sense. Unless for the FIRST time in this movie, the writer suddendly makes it possible for temporary futures to be presented to the viewers. So the wicked didn't die and woke up before the mom and killed her and made the lead a prisoner (mirroring herself when she was younger). ok, that's cool, but that never happened before though. The future was always showed after the past scene was dealt with. The lead had some solid 30/45min in this new future though, since she runs everywhere she goes... doesn't make sense.

So to me this was lazy. They had a 3 star movie if they ended with a happy ending, so they created this poorly written new ending so that they can keep people talking about the possibilities of the ending credits, and end with an 4 star movie. And that's lazy. It works for the majority of people, but the truth it's the timelines don't always match.

Also can't someone just call 911. ffs.

When the trailer first came out people were comparing it to Signal and for that reason, I chose not to watch signal even though it was on my list on Netflix at the time because I didn’t want any comparison.

The leads gave their all to the movie and there was no dull moment, every one acted so well I felt I was watching a real life event.

The story is great, not new but unique, the cinematography is outstanding and time flew by, I didn’t even know I was already at the end of the movie until the credits rolled in.

I’m a fan of Park Shin hye but I’ll just say that this is the best acting of her career, her range of emotions in this movie is unmatched and I’m grateful to the director for recognizing her talent and giving her the role.

Jun Jong-Seo is wonderful she nailed her role and she will definitely go far in her career, she has all it takes to be great and I’ll be rooting for her.

Lee El’s appearance was short but my God, did she own her role? I loved her since I first saw her in goblin and she has never disappointed me in any role I’ve seen her, her performance is always memorable.

Kim Sung ryoung also acted her role so well, she was a great mother that didn’t mind sacrificing herself for her child.

I hope we get more female centric movies from Korea, this one was great.

"Let me tell you the story about the call that changed my destiny..."

The plot of "The Call" as a thriller hinges on the protagonist doing profoundly stupid things to initiate and prolong the conflict between herself and the victim-turned-antagonist. So much that suspension of disbelief fractures the closer the film gets to the end. The lack of rules established for its time travel do what most time travel films do: Throw ideas, like feeling past-tense pain, at the wall.

What started out as a cut-and-dry time travel narrative about two women connecting across time, and one of them dealing with an abusive and superstitious mother (whose abuses end up being justified by the story, ffs!), quickly devolves into run of the mill thriller with lot of shrieking and yelling women.

On top of that, the ending invokes a kid kicking a monopoly board and screaming, "You didn't win! You didn't win!" when they're caught cheating. By all means, end on a bad note. But make sure you've actually built a narrative that justifies that sour note, otherwise you risk exposing weak storytelling (which this ultimately is full of).

Performances are decent, and its entertaining enough that it kept me engaged. Overall? Nothing remarkable (especially in terms of time travel movies).

acting,plot

well this is my first review, so I hope I have put my views in a proper way
I decided to watch this movie because of park shin hye , as i expected she did not disappoint me and what came as bonus is the rest of the cast especially Jeon Jong Seo
As the plot says the story unfolds with a call but the call is not just all. The connection of the past, the present and the future reminds you of the butterfly effect.
The movie will always take u by surprise which is very needed in a thriller.
Their is dialogue where in Lee El tells her daughter that she is going to die many deaths in her life, u will not understand it in the starting but later u realize why said so and also u will understand why she did what she did. She is great mother and the actress did justice by her amazing acting
The background music when she (park shin hye) realizes that something happened is just awesome.
The ending is kind off a cliffhanger but its not a problem. If not anything it only gives hope for a second season
All in all its a decent movie to watch

Stupid Movie But Nice Cinamatopgrahy

I mean, I suppose people who don't care for a strong plot and things that make sense would like it. It just seems like a movie for the villain. They have all the power and the protagonist is struggling to breathe. You can make this a metaphor for shit but I don't buy it. We also have another case of DUMBASS COPS. Convenient moments in the plot that gives power to the villain such as the Dad arriving right at the moment the protagonist rejects the villain's instructions to tell her how she gets caught.

The whole timeline and time travel made no sense. Our protagonist is stupid as FUCK. And our villain is able to overpower three men but stood no chance against one mother who was strong and determined because of her love for her child. She was stabbed multiple times yet the villain didn't get one vital point on her???

Then we have the real stupidity. Our protagonist GETS NO MEMORY of past events as they have changed only the scars and consequence which makes no sense. If she had the memories she could at the very least have a fair chance to outwit the villain. BUT NO, the villain is OP.

What is even worse is that ALL the protagonist had to do WAS SHUT HER FUCKING MOUTH UP once she knew this bitch murdered two people and not tell her she got caught. LIKE WHY? You have proof she KILLED TWO PEOPLE. WHY WOULD YOU EVEN TRY TO CONFRONT HER. Like WHO THE FUCK TELL A KNOWN MURDER THAT THEY WILL GET CAUGHT KNOWING THEY CAN CHANGE THE PAST.

Anyway, that is the review.

Super intriguing storyline, excellent acting!!!

I can’t even begin expressing the feeling I felt when watching the movie. It was good, but it confuses me at the same time. There are some scenes that really needed some more explanations, but I managed to understand the whole plot til the end.

You need to pay attention to every detail of the characters carefully to understand the storyline. Since it moves from the past to the future frequently, it could be very confusing at times. The writers and producers did a very good job portraying the scenes... it felt so REAL and terrifying.

Park Shin Hye’s acting were undoubtedly good, as usual. But Jeon Jung Seo’s acting caught my eye. She portrayed the ‘psycopath’ character so perfectly. It gave me chills when watching her scenes. Lee El’s acting were also very very good, despite the fact that she came on a very short time.

Overall, it was a nice watch! Totally recommended for all of you who needs something thrilling!! A little reminder: Don’t skip the ending, there are some extra scenes in the credits that could give you more plot twists! ;)

Watch it for the actors

This movie was on my Netflix watch list because of Park Shin Hye. I don't regret watching it. . .but if I'd never seen it then I also wouldn't be missing anything.

The film is about Kim Seo Yeon (Park Shin Hye) who finds a landline phone in her home and begins getting calls from a mysterious caller, Oh Young Sook. Seo Yeon figures out that Young Sook is about 20 years in the past and the two begin conversing regularly. Seo Yeon soon realizes that Young Sook's timeline is close to when she loses her beloved father. In a quick reversal of fate, Young Sook ends up changing the past by saving Seo Yeon's father. Unfortunately, this one good deed becomes a catalyst in which life begins changing drastically for both girls when Seo Yeon warns Young Sook of an event pertaining to Young Sook's own lifespan. Seo Yeon learns too late that her revealing of future knowledge will have dire consequences for her and the people she loves.

I think the movie took a different route with time alterations. Instead of parallel universes being created with shifts in past events, this movie shows us how the changes happen in "real time." The story had an interesting concept and the acting was top-notch. Big praises are deserved for both Park Shin Hye and Jeon Jong Seo. Both were marvelous and definitely are at the top of their game. The biggest fault for me was the character of Kim Seo Yeon. She is frustratingly ignorant. One would think she would have reservations on how much information she was willing to divulge to someone in the past. . .but no. Her motivations were selfish and the consequences backfired on her big time. To save one life meant she unknowingly caused the death of so many others. My biggest problem with her is that she doesn't learn from her mistakes. When they are at odds, Seo Yeon continuously reveals her hand and basically serves her loved ones on silver platters to the monster she unleashed . . . she really only made one smart decision yet even that backfired on her.

If you need something to watch on a Friday, check this movie out. The story is interesting and the acting stellar but like me, you may find the protagonist a bit too frustrating to the point of wanting to rip your hair out while watching her fail to protect her loved ones.

Thriller. Time-Traveling. Transitions.

The story was close to perfect. Though no other time-difference related movie can do it better than Back to the Future, this one did a pretty fair job. Of course, there were some loose ends that weren't tied. The ending was not satisfying but oddly pleasing. Perhaps it's because the good guy lost. Surprisingly, I felt little to no sympathy for Kim Seo Yeon. And of course, I didn't show support for Oh Yeong Sook either. Although the transitions were a little hard to adjust to, I think they did well. Honestly, this is one of the best thrillers I have watched. Please note that I have not watched that many movies though. I'm more a drama person :)

With the cast, there is no need to explain. Park Shin Hye? Amazing actress as always. I loved her acting in this drama. Jeon Jong Seo? After watching this, I researched everything I could about her. Too bad she hasn't had that many works out yet. I believe she will make it big one day with acting because I felt like she was perfect for this role. As for the support characters, I recognized many famous actors from other dramas (e.g. Oh Jung Se from It's Okay to Not Be Okay and Park Ho San from True Beauty, Hush, Extracurricular and many other great works).

Overall, I would RECCOMEND this movie for the genre thriller.

What happens when you... unleash the devil....

Butterfly effect.... not a new concept in kdramaland, and actually a quite revisited one. The call was an overall amazing experience and, long story short, you have 2 hours of free time and you look to watch a thrilling story that will keep you at the edge of your seat? Yes, click that play button and thank godflix that movies like this are still being produced.

But what was exactly the thing that made The call so memorable? The storytelling.

No, It's not the story itself. Yes, we know, somehow 2 people in different timelines communicate and they change things in their timeline that has a ping-pong reaction in both times. It's cool just to think of it, but it's not original. What call had was original storytelling.

The story starts a little cliche, two characters, two different timelines, both are likeable, both seem to be troubled, both could be the hero in their situation, you can't help but empathize. It all goes down midway, when the movie hits hard and it shows its biggest message. "Everything happens for a reason". You cannot play god even when you have that option you will regret it!

The movie as a movie was smart, it was fast-paced, it had cool effects, a killer story and mainly... development! Thrilling starting 20 minutes in, till the very end, and honestly what bumped this up to 9,5 from 9 was the ending... cause even when the movie was quite convenient, and a little bit too.... hollywood for my taste, it knows what it wants to be, and more importantly, it knows what the butterfly effect is and can do. Endless possibilities, multiple points of view. And yes in the very end The call had exactly that. Did not reduce itself in just another butterfly effect suspense little forgettable movie, it thought out of the box and for that i can easily deem it memorable.

Was it perfect? No. It did have its issues if we delve deeply into the whole thing and start analyzing every shit that happens, but who does that in a thriller/suspense movie (especially when we take talking with someone from 20 years ago for granted). The movie had it all, good story, great development, shocking twists, amazing cgi, and in the very end.... flawless acting!

Imma say it, never expected to, Park shin Hye is a good actress. There, i said it. If you ever accuse me of saying it i will deny it though. Jeon Jong Seo was so good, she might have been a little too much inside the role. Astonishing! And generally the whole cast which is known gave an A+ performance.

All in all, highly recommended!
