Recommending this only for the warmth this drama leaves you with. My mister generates warmth after completing it, so does reply 1988. This drama will show how relationships were, how the korean culture was in 1988 and how families in a neighbourhood take care of each other!!

1 . In both of them main leads are broken and pitiful and when they met each other , they start to heal themselves and understand that they are not the only one who is tried of living in this world
2 . there is no romance between main leads in both of them
3 . female leads is an outcast in both of them

I felt like the male lead from my mister and the female lead lead from liar game were pretty similar in the sense that:
-both were kind
-both were seen as weak due to their kind natures
-both proved in the end that being kind is a strength despite most people telling them that they are being stupid

The female lead from my mister and the male lead from liar game were similar:
-both have gone through a lot of pain which has made them cold and uncaring to others
-both get frustrated with the kind nature of the other lead
-both protect the leads at all costs
-both are incredibly intelligent

In both dramas, towards the end the leads find out that they had been deceived/lied to by the other lead but don't jump to misunderstandings conflict. They choose to keep trusting the other person because they know the other person.
There's also a huge debt to be paid by the female leads in both dramas.
There's no blatant romance in both dramas. Its left to the viewer's interpretation (and I choose to believe that the leads ended up together in both dramas)

The first 9 episodes of The Light In Your Eyes are very similar in tone to My Mister. There's a certain destitution and downtrodenness, but at the same time, the show has moments of levity and emphasizes genuine human connections and relationships. The characters in both shows feel real, but they also both feel quite suffocated.

1. Both of them are heart-warming dramas which make viewers cry

2. The growth of friendship , what starts off as a sour start to their relationship turns into a sweet friendship is similar in both

3. There is a character development in both of them

Although it's not a school drama, the leads in these dramas are super similiar. They both have to do illegal things to earn money, they have no parents in their life/ have a parent who treats them horribly, they have to keep secrets from the people around them, and they are both really smart. Both of these dramas have dark undertones and smart female characters

Both are about an older man and a younger woman who, through their shared connection, learn to work out their personal hurdles and become a better person.

The format is different (one is a movie, the other is a drama), but I found SLSYT pretty similar to My Mister in some ways. They both use beautiful symbolism to add to the story.

Both are centered on the MC’s introspection and explore through them regrets that pile up in one’s life and the inner self you never let out all this time. The desire to become somebody else or to disappear out of self-hatred is one of the main themes of both stories.

SLSYT shows the journey of one character, My Mister the meeting of two characters at the lowest point of their life.

The two stories are filled with melancholy and just as Shim Hee Sub in SLSYT, Lee Sun Kyun and Lee Ji Eun/IU portray it in a compelling way.
They both depict the MCs' relationship with their family.

Both portrays forbidden love and in general have similar vibes. It reminded me a lot of my my mister especially how social status is represented.

Tho it's not romantic, but the deep relationship between the leads is portrayed especially beautiful and unique, a bit ill-mannered, but kindest at heart, the two main female leads from both drama have both gone through a lot and matured a lot. they both are very reticent and choose to use the very fewest words required to express themselves.

One thing about both drama I APPRECIATE SO MUCH and CHERISHED IT while watching are the long Silent Moments where all you're exposed to hear is the ambient sound and heavy breathing (silent gazes in Lipstick).

I totally recommend BOTH!
Even tho they aren't anything alike in term of character development and story. My mister is a family drama while Lipstick is friendship. but they both are totally a HUMAN DRAMA.

The main and secondary characters are very much intertwined in both shows. The dialogues from both shows are so meaningful and wholesome, that you'll miss the appeal of the story if you're not paying attention to their conversations.

Unlike in Run On where there's a main romance plot, there's no romance between the leads in My Mister (I mean IU's and Lee Sung Kyung's characters). More external conflicts are going on in My Mister, but there is a deep emotional connection among the characters from both shows. If you like shows which are character-driven, I think you will like both of these shows.
