It is uncommon to know or hear man harem but Ooku movie showed how is the life of men inside of chambers full of beautiful, skilled, dainty, and warrior men. An everyday life full of competition and deceit. It is ironic that their "seeds" and desire was address to wrong specie, that is a nerve wrecking man to man touching and "cold nights" without woman, while the women in the village is frantic to have men to have children. The ratio of men is 1/4 to women, whereas, there's a huge need for supply of men, in terms of labor and warriors to protect the village.

I find it amusing while watching this movie. It is no difference, no matter what gender you are, when competition is tight, everything is possible. The story is unique and I am quite fascinated seeing the fashionable Edo's trend in wearing their kimonos, specially the men with their Furisode and Sokutai, they are like Barbie doll types. It feels like while watching this, you have gone back from the old days, seeing them sitting in tatami mats floored room in Nihon Jutaku (Japanese styled houses). It is refreshing to see the old custom, culture of Japan, especially for western people watching the movie. Though it will only take less than 6 hours (by plane) going in Japan since it is a neighbor country (north part of Philippines), still this is not an everyday (and modern) setting, thus, it is fascinating to watch.

Though I am not anymore shock knowing the "man to man" relationship of Japan men, not because of the modern times, but it's been part of Japan culture if you read some of their history. I really love the cinematography, the story, the characters and the actors. They did a great job.

The movie is great no doubt but it feels a bit rushed. It leaves the feeling that something is missing. I like how the Ohoku is described and how our main hero seems to distinguish himself from the others and yet..I feel some elements are missing, it's like a story constructed on main ideas that are not fully developed.
