You think you stole my heart? But it was already yours to begin with!
This is the story of a righteous potato and a dumb fox who met each other at the right time but in the wrong place. Later, the series delves into their chaotic lives to show that separated, they're miserable, but together, they're sunshine on earth.✓Things that I appreciated:
• The main lead's natural chemistry is what brought us here. Storyline is important, but without camaraderie between the actors, establishing good content is impossible. Yin and War's portrayal of Jack and Joker showed us that with mutual understanding and support they can conquer the world!
• The main motto of the series was not to make a goofy light rom-com but to create an everlasting impression on the audience. The thrill, suspense, comedy, and romance it delivered were equally divided into parts that didn't outshine each other.
• The brilliant side characters Ama and Toey Ting. They were those supportive pillers; without them, the series would be incomplete. Ama's wisdom and Toey Ting, the Smarty pants, brighten up the mood instantly whenever they're on screen. The best supporting role goes to them!
• In the era of "who's more dominant" talks, we got our vice kings! One dialogue, "Let me lead today," warmed up my heart. This proves they're not showing what the audience wants but what they should expect. They set the bar high; no chance of defeat!
• This is not just a BL drama; it's more than that. It's a story of rays of hope finding their way through the darkest corner of hell. This is a tale of unprecedented happiness you get for fighting for your loved ones, i.e., family. Outside the blood-related family, you create bonds, which lead to an orientation of a family that accepts you for who you are and makes you shine beyond your shortcomings.
• I loved how the storyline was not entirely dependent on romance but had a proper story to tell, which created a huge anticipation throughout the episodes. The audience didn't get bored but rather was immersed in it the whole time.
✓Room for improvement:
•I would really appreciate it if action scenes were shown more naturally than memorised steps. Although they improved a lot from the first episode till the last one. This was my only problem; otherwise, it was a perfect series from start to finish.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the rollercoaster ride of anticipation, disappointment, sadness, and joy. It was thrilling to begin with. All those comedic elements did give a moment of relief and rehabilitation from the series of serious situations. Highly recommend. If you're looking for something fun and thrilling with a dollop of romance blooming, then this is it.
9/10 and 0.5 for my immense love for Yinwar (≧◡≦) ♡ they'll be dearly missed!

Winter Is Not the Death of Summer but the Birth of Spring

It is not original, and sometimes it tends to sugarcoat the reality of prisoners in Thai prisons
'A Prayer Before Dawn' is a prison drama directed by Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire. Based on a true story collected in the book "A Prayer Before Dawn: My Nightmare in Thailand's Prisons", by Billy Moore, it tells the life in prison of a young British man with a problematic past and addicted to heroin, who ends up being confined in one of the Thai prisons, considered among the most dangerous and inhumane in the world, for drug possession. In the film, the relief for the self-destructive life and mind of Billy Moore, masterfully played by Joe Cole, known for his role as Luke in the series 'Skins', John Shelby in 'Peaky Blinders' and Sean Wallace in 'Gangs of London', comes in the arms, lips and the inconstant sexual attentions of Fame (Pornchanok Mabklang), a ladyboy, with whom the main character will maintain a homosexual relationship, and the discipline of Muay Thai and boxing practiced by the British citizen.
The image that the West has about the life of a prisoner in Thai prisons, such as the Bangkok Hilton, which many call "The Great Tiger", one of the harshest prisons in the world, is consistent with the reality shown in this 2017 film: institutional corruption, extreme violence, overcrowding and unhealthiness where prisoners fight to survive in inhumane conditions.
The recent sentence to life imprisonment of chef Daniel Sancho, the son of renowned Spanish actor Rodrigo Sancho, for premeditated murder, dismemberment and concealment of the body of Colombian plastic surgeon Edwin Arrieta, on the tourist island of Koh Phangan, in southern Thailand, in August 2023, has once again brought to debate the inhumane situation experienced by prisoners in Thai prisons.
In addition to living with drug traffickers, pedophiles and murderers, between 30-60 prisoners survive in each cell, without water, electricity or hardly any food, with a single hole in the floor to relieve themselves. Fights over a crust of bread or a piece of soap, or to avoid being raped by other inmates and even by the guards themselves, are constant. If the prisoner runs with good luck, he will be cared for by a doctor and two nurses, alone, to provide medical care to thousands of inmates.
While in other prisons around the world convicts spend their time with the aim of reintegrating them back into society in most cases, going to prison in Thailand is simply a punishment.
In this scenario where the days are tremendously difficult and hard, in which crime and daily violence outside prison continue inside it, and survival is the greatest challenge, 'Winter Is Not the Death of Summer but the Birth of Spring' focuses on showing the life of the main character already inside a cold and hostile prison in Thailand. A voice-over, which tells us, during the first minutes of the plot, how he ended up there, helps us as viewers to become familiar with him from the moment he crosses the threshold of the prison and leaves his routine life behind.
The series follows a true love story between two inmates: "Jed", sentenced to one year and six months for a check fraud law, and Bible Khamphi, a young man who seems indifferent to life but who possesses a magnetic attraction that attracts Pathomkan.
It is precisely the approach of anguish, oppression and confusion that Andy Rachyd Kusolkulsiri, known for directing numerous BL series and films, such as 'Love Sick Season 2', 'Make It Right: The Series' and 'Tom Gay', turns to tell us the story.
From the first scenes, the audience is able to perceive that the director does not stop to explain anything to us, he builds his main character as he goes and at the same time he inserts the other characters and subplots. The series manages to keep the viewer stunned and disoriented, holding Jed's hand in a prison that looks at him with brutality, leaving this peaceful and dejected man alone in the middle of a violent place, waiting to be rescued by a pious soul... or loving.
In addition to a love story, 'Winter Is Not the Death of Summer but the Birth of Spring' is a story of survival in very extreme conditions.
Andy Rachyd Kusolkulsiri's camera takes us into the warlike Thai prison world. It shows sweaty and tattooed male bodies like emaciated flesh eager for violence, blood, nicotine, drugs and sex, a voracious hunger that never sleeps, where you have to fight to get a few drops of drinking water with which to quench your thirst, sleep carefully open and where a visit to a latrine can end in a gang rape, since the guards are not there to ensure the safety of the prisoners.
The explicitness of the acts of institutional corruption, authoritarianism and physical and psychological abuse, both by the guards and by the prisoners towards other prisoners, in a hierarchical order of supremacy, seek the truth, the reality, that the eyes of the viewer learn first-hand what kinds of underworlds inhabit our own planet.
Jed is going to end up in prison for a crime committed, he will cry out for bail, and the most terrifying thing is not the room, but the sea of voices and screams of other inmates and guards who look at him with contempt and will humiliate him without contemplation.
The intrusion does not remain in the auditory, but also in the visual: down there, in the depths of hell, among dark men with elaborate tattoos, pronounced abdomen or extreme thinness, their pale skin and innocent gaze, in contrast to those around them, shine like a beacon, bringing to light the sexual desires of those who have not enjoyed sex in a long time.
It is the unfavorable side of justice, stuck within four narrow walls of an underworld, stuck inside the purest shit of the environment that surrounds him, Jet will try to find the light, that is, freedom. Or at least a relief for their tormented days.
His fall is long, painful, above all painful, reinforced by self-deception, outbreaks of violence, and cruelty not only on the part of others in his condition.
Another aspect to consider is the acting, where for obvious reasons, the majority is either novice actors or are not professional actors. Likewise, we have a notable work by Art Pawaret Prapapornvorakul, who plays Bible Khamphi, and Mark Methasit Aiyakornkul, who plays Jed, both in their debut in the entertainment industry.
Although it is original for a Thai LGBT+ series, its premise is not unique in world cinematography in telling a homosexual relationship in a prison in that Asian nation, nor is the label "based on a true story."
On the other hand, at times it seems to offer a sweetened and complacent image of the harsh conditions and life of the convicts, such as Jed's quiet walks through dubious and improbable reading and music rooms full of convicts.
Still, the story moves in two directions: that of survival in a brutal environment, and the love that Jed finds in another inmate. That is to say, on the one hand it is an unpleasant series in substance and form that evolves in a rude manner to feed on violence and hostility, while on the other hand it offers the romantic rapprochement of two beings destined to suffer confinement.
Loaded with intrinsic dirt, the viewer waits anxiously to see if the next frame shows us even a drop of tenderness and redemption.
'Winter Is Not the Death of Summer but the Birth of Spring' has very powerful bases, since the presence of ladyboys is added to the above, which gives it an exotic touch.
If I have to question something, in addition to what was previously said, it is the lack of a budget that allows us to satisfactorily guarantee that all aspects of the production are managed effectively and efficiently, in order to better develop the story, and the division of the plot in short episodes, about 8 minutes each.
Due to its crudeness, because it does not tell a romantic plot as lovers of the genre wish, it is not suitable for all audiences, but that does not mean its effort to tell a true story should be detracted, which despite its flaws, contributes to make visible the harsh reality of prisoners in Thai prisons.
I will return to the review later. It is recommended.

I don't know why the review score is only 8.3
This comedy-drama is one of the best, offering incredible rewatch value. The actors deliver outstanding performances, making it absolutely hilarious. While the music isn’t extraordinary, it’s decent and fits well. With its perfect blend of humor and drama, this show is a must-watch for any fan of the genre!

Uy.Hablemos de Pitbabe The Series.
Way.

Blown Away!
I just finished this series and I can say that this 100% blew me away. Everything about it was fantastic. Can I give it more than 10/10?Blown Away by:
* The story! So compelling and it kept me on the edge of my seat. It was clever, emotional, funny, intense, and heartbreaking.
* The actors were phenomenal. I have to say War (Joker) deserves a best acting award for this series. He was so incredible. He’s just so versatile. Yin (Jack) was also amazing. You could tell he put everything he had into this role. So talented and so handsome.
* The rest of the cast was great. No one was overly goofy. They were all legitimately funny, serious, and perfect for their roles. But the grandmother stole the show for me. Loved her!
This series was just so good! It was a very high quality production. For me, it’s in my top four along with KinnPorsche, Manner of Death, and The Sign. Watch it!!

Insanely amazing
Amazing first episode! It was smooth, funny, and packed so much into one hour, yet it flew by. I was hooked the entire time. The chemistry between the cast is incredible, not just the couples, but also Style and Kant as friends and Bison and Fadel as brothers. The story, acting, and vibe have me obsessed!Esta resenha foi útil para você?

Fast-paced & light second chance love story
I was drawn to this series because the female lead wanted to break free of familial expectations and pursue career in music. What I liked:
1. Passion in music - I like that male lead's personality is different from female lead's personality but both do have a common interest that they figured out later. I like that this male lead is goofy and baby-faced.
2. Romance - It's sweet but episode 2 had a slightly spicy scene. The monologue, the attempts to resist - I like!
3. Supporting characters - Su Nan and Shen Yong are such a supportive best friend. I like that both of them help out Shen Liang Chuan. Those scenes provided comedic relief.
4. Pacing - Fast-paced & light. Easy to watch.
What I disliked:
1. Chemistry - I didn't get much chemistry between Xiang Xin and Zhao Yi Bo especially towards the later episodes when their characters got back together.
2. Plot hole - I don't understand the appearance of Yun Jian Jian after divorce because I thought Yun Wan Wan never had strong feelings for Shen Liang Chuan during their marriage.
Favourite scene
When Yun Jian Jian seduced Shen Liang Chuan

so much fun
I absolutely adored this show. The characters are well rounded, nuanced, intriguing, and lovable. I fell in love with this little community. This is definitely plot/characters first and romance second, and usually I’m a romance first girlie, but this show just pulled me in. Will absolutely be rewatching this and anything that Yin and War put out in the future.Esta resenha foi útil para você?

A Whole Lot of Li Jiu Lin Goin' On!
This story, confusing as I found it at times, had some potential. The writers didn't deliver. Li Jiu Lin carried this drama. He was divine in the lead role. I drank him up in every scene. There was just enough chemistry with the abrasive FL to make me want more of them and hope for a HE.Did we get one? Well, it depends on how you think. I would have liked them to have had more time together as husband & wife OR give us some more time with them when they meet again in the present. I don't care much for those one-off meetings and then the rest is left to the viewer's imagination. That's why we watch these dramas - we want the action, not the imagining. They wasted so much time of petty kidnapping crap and fighting scenes. So, this tale isn't winning any writing awards.
BUT - I got me a good helping of watching this gorgeous ML strut his stuff in a uniform (oooh!! He carries military wear soooo well!) And enough shirtless scenes and a couple of bath scenes to make my heart skip a few beats. Shallow, I know - but these days, you take the eye candy where you can find it, and Li Jiu Lin is definitely eye candy!
Will I rewatch? Probably sometime in-between episodes of a current series I'm watching. or on a lazy weekend. Just to admire LJL!

Yin & War's Acting has Improved Exponentially, Grandma is MVP, Plot & Characters Sold Separately
I will always watch Yin and War's shows or films whether they do them together or apart because I think they are great actors and that was shown in this series above all else. The improvement in the last 2 years is huge. This isn't a genre I watch and therefore have only watched their stuff and nothing else; am only a cdrama watcher. Loved grandma; she was the awesome MVP but the plot and some characters were in the twilight zone. Because this is different from what I usually watch, pros and cons will be mixed together as it's easier to explain. As mentioned above, I can't get enough of Yin and War's improvement in their overall acting here as Jack and Joke. If it was just them two, grandma, Joke's family, the kids (especially Toi Ting, who was too cute for words), and some of the antagonists, it would have been enough. The first two episodes were the strongest and then it just spiraled out of control. The plot was a mix of too much flamboyance where serious words were spoken and actions taken, plot holes, complete nonsense, comedy that absolutely didn't land, and a bunch of actors like Prom, Bonz, Mark, and the dudes that played Hope and Save seriously need to take more acting classes. This just isn't their thing; I know Bonz is a serious singer so he should stick to that. Everyone else perhaps belong in other industries. The characters of Hope, Save, and Rose annoyed the ever living daylights out of me, but towards the end they matured and grew on me; still have a long way to go though.
You could tell right away who the mainstream actors were because they were actually serious and played their parts well; they didn't over act or be so over dramatic you just wanted to fast forward them. The comedy was slapstick and nearly shoved down your throat. Like this just isn't funny! Stop! The 4 Horseman plot with Sauron's Ring belonging back in Mt. Doom and the Ring Around the Rosie of more of the same was yawnsville. The finale episode would have been strong had there not been the obvious plot holes and dumbass humor of ok Jack has a gun, shoot boss but nope! Or the bomb activation tablet is tossed near a handcuffed Joke who can obviously get it but he just stays put. Meanwhile the martial arts were ground to slow motion and though Jack is great at going tit for tat with Carbon (both actors did well with learning basic martial arts kicks and punches), Jack periodically stops to run over to Joke and hug him; like what in the what? End it already! Make most of it make sense, someone please.
The actual ending was decent for all and the chemistry between Jack and Joke was undeniable from the get go so I'm glad we ended with them. I'm glad Joke's dad came around from an arrogant asshole to the father Joke deserved after Top and Jack's grandma talked some sense into him; it was a little too fast but given everything else, I'll take it. The opening theme of the series was great; it showcased what this show was supposed to be but ultimately fell short plot wise.
Would I recommend it? Only for Yin and War's awesome acting. It was believable and the chemistry was on point. Turn your brain off if you want a cohesive story that makes any sort of sense. It's entertaining enough and that's about it.

Allover I just know this is gonna be one of my fev series as soon as the series ends.
First of all let's talk about the cast. Fkt's acting have always been a top notch. JD improved in acting too. First changing of voice and attitude for the character is just so amazing. Meanwhile if you just watch you will notice that how much rage of acting need to do the character of Style. It's just so amazing and it just amazed me how good Dunk portrayed that. Joong and Khao is great as the same time. The quick changes of impression and the almost same expression with different emotions ohh God Khao and Joong nailed that accordingly. Coming to the story line. It's just so realistic. Like being gay is just not for only school going teenager or office going pps. There are so many pps who just go for ons. And no one's doing affect their sexuality. About the nc scenes. I just am so impressed with the hard work of fly. As I don't want to give spoiler. I will just end it here. But let me say if you are a bl fan and skipping the show just cause your fev isn't a part instead of caring the story line, you are missing a lot.Esta resenha foi útil para você?

Baek Sa Eon is truly a captivating figure, with his history as a political figure and his challenging experiences as both a war correspondent and hostage negotiator – he's not your average male protagonist by any means! The depiction of the strain in his marriage, with Hui Ju is incredibly moving. When she is abducted; you can sense the devastation enveloping his world.
Hong Hui Ju stands out as a character, in the storys narrative; her quiet demeanor isn't merely a device but an integral aspect of her identity that resonates powerfully through the portrayal of her resilience amidst past traumas. The inclusion of her role as a sign language interpreter adds an poignant layer to her character portrayal. Her abduction doesn't just serve as a plot twist; it also delves into the depth and tension, between her and Sa Eon—a dynamic that captivates ones attention with its intensity and complexity.
The cinematography and pacing, in this film are outstandingly well done. Each scene seems purposeful. Contributes to the narrative. There is a sense of tension and mystery in every moment that is complemented by the charged soundtrack. The exploration of themes such, as communication and love resonates deeply with the audience. Despite their imperfections they are easy to empathize with and support throughout the story.
"If you're seeking a gripping drama filled with emotion and deep themes that makes you think deeply about life—look no further, than When the Phone Rings (2024). It's definitely one of the standout shows I've watched this year! Make sure you catch it!"

Refreshing!!!
This series really did something innovative in the land of Thai BLs and it is a welcomed refresher as a whole. Initially after watching eps 1 & 2, you'd think that every episode would be a new adventure entirely. But then 3 & 4 come and it starts to tie together slowly. (And maybe you're half destroyed with tears in your eyes like me with the end of ep 4.) Then the last episodes in particular, are like a series within a series. To me, it was great and I honestly could watch 10+ more episodes. (Maybe we can look forward to a special episode at least?)And not only was the series refreshing, but the actors were just as equally refreshing and wonderful to watch. I felt like they were able to carry these different stories with the different complexities and emotions very well. The chemistry between them was incredible and I truly hope it's not the last we see of them together.
Probably one of my favorite series of the whole year.
