This episode explored the importance of not gossiping. Jang Geum talked too much to Keum Young, while not knowing who she is, and that later got her into troubles with the other girls. Had she kept to herself regardless of who she is talking to, this would not have happen.This episode explored the theme of helping one another. Jang Geum was rewarded and allowed to go home but she fought for Yeun Seng's right to go home instead. Jang Geum wanted to help Yeun Seng.This episode explored the theme of bullying. The other girls ostracised Jang Geum because of Keum Young's issue and bullied her.

This episode explored the importance of intellect and how it helped you. Jang Geum was able to bandage Yeun Seng when the later was injured because she was good with herbs. She was able to find the right herbs for Yeun Seng.This episode explored the importance of perseverance. Jang Geum was not supposed to take the test unless she held the water until the end. Even though it was tough to hold the water as it was heavy, she persevered til the end and was able to take the test.

This episode explored the theme of how intellect is important. Jang Geum is intelligent and successfully convey the message to the person who would be the next king. As a result, she was rewarded for her intellect and got to go to the palace.This episode explored the theme of class inequality. Jang Geum was bullied by the other girls because she was of a lower status than them. They refused to let her sleep with them.This episode explored the theme of perseverance and how it paid off. Jang Geum was determined to be a palace maid and even though it was hard, she eventually got her wish and entered the palace.

This episode explored the theme of the importance of learning even when against the odds. Jang Geum loved to learn to write and even when her mother forbid her to learn, she continued to learn and this led to her mother finally relenting of her desire for Jang Geum to not learn writing and offered to teach her herself.This episode explored the theme of the importance of keeping one's promise. Jang Geum promised her father to keep secret his military status but she later broke her promise. This led to the capture of her father away from her.

This episode explored the theme of human kindness. Even though the official was afraid of women due to the prophecy that stated that he would die by the hand of woman, he still saved Myeong's life and even accepted her as his wife. That was an act of kindness.This episode explored the theme of injustice. Myeong was innocent of fidelity and yet she was falsely accused and even forced to swallow poison which almost took her life. She was framed.

This episode explored the theme of how being intelligent helps even when you were of a low social class. Dong Yi was at first rejected by the upper class lady for new year greetings because she was lowborn, but after she displayed her knowledge of hanji, the lady not only accepted her for new year greetings but approved her as well.This episode explored the theme of social unjust. The sword fraternity was founded because they wanted to help the slaves find meanings in life. Though they were innocent of the murder of the nobles, they were framed by the yangbang to take the blame of murdering the nobles and they were captured by the police as a result.

Dong Ju and Chun Soo fought for the rights for slaves to be free even though they were lowborns as well.This episode explored the theme of gender inequality and fighting against it. Though Dong Yi was a girl, she fought hard in the race to win the boy. Though she was a girl, she was intelligent and that was not the norm for girls in her time. She was able to tell the police what was the right procedure to deal with the corpse.This episode explored the theme of kinship. Dong Yi loved to eat the honeycakes but even then, she did not forget to reserve some for her father and brother. Later on, when she had the money, she bought food for her father and brother as well.

Lu Bu is so good at arrow, even though he is faithless. He can shoot such a small thing at such a long distance away. He is truly a great warrior. Yuan Shu is so foolish... he actually declared himself emperor.

Lu Bu seeks shelter under Liu Bei. I wonder if Liu Bei makes the right choice to take him in. Lu Bu seems to want to take the Xu province for himself and will have done so, if not for Chen Gong. I hope Liu Bei makes the right choice

Hur June is finally married, though not to Yejin who I prefer prefer over Dahee. Dahee seems to be a bit arrogant and pampered. She still wears silk though she is married to poor Hur June. She is also rude towards Weetae's wife. I wonder if she will ever adapt to life under poor Hur June.

The three guys who worked as assistants are mad! They don't care for Hur June's life at all. They sent him to a place wherte they knew there are tigers and did not worry for him when he went missing. I really dislike them. They are so mean!

This episode explored the theme of politics, when it gets ugly. Doji should have passed the examination but he failed because the subordinates of Yesu thought Yesu bore a grudge against Doji's father Weetae and in their attempt to please Yesu, failed him. This is politics when it gets ugly, trying to curry-favor a superior at the expense of being fair to the examinee.This episode explored the transformation of people. Weetae used to be like Doji, seeking after fame and reputation. Weetae even went to the extend of challenging Yesu to a duel. But now he changed into a doctor who no longer cared for fame or reputation but only seek after the well-being of the patient.This episode explored the theme of standing up to superior when they were in the wrong. Doji did not want to go home because he was upset that he failed the examination and indulged in wine. Hur June stood up to Doji even though Doji was his superior and forced him to go home.This episode explored the theme of being a dedicated doctor. Yejin might be a woman but she took dedicated care of Dahee and really looked after her wellbeing. That was what a doctor should be.

This episode explored the theme of what it meant to be a doctor. Weetae offered free medical care for the patients and is a doctor who genuinely cared for the patients. Doji, on the other hand, seemed to care more for his examination than the patients.This episode explored the theme of gender inequality. Yejin is capable enough to be a doctor yet cannot put what she knew into practice because Doji refused to let her do so on account that she is a woman.This episode explored the theme of class inequity. The noblemen wanted Doji, although he came first, to let them have his room simply because he is not a nobleman but a commoner. Later on, while sharing his room, they made fun of him for not knowing their area of study.
