Wait, so maybe Gun never jumped into the water…

Wait, so maybe Gun never jumped into the water to drown. How much do y’all wanna bet that he argued with Shin who took his medal and threw it in the river? And in trying to catch the medal, Gun falls into the water. And uh-oh, is Tae-oh going to figure out Ju-yeon’s first love lie? While we want Gun to learn the truth, we don’t want Tae-oh to have any ammunition. We may not like Ju-yeon but we hate him more. Bro led her on for months, not very mindful, not very demure of him. And we doubt he is telling the truth about the misunderstanding that he brings up in Bad-Memory Eraser Episode 6. If he always meant to date her, why did he gift Yeo a gold necklace while giving Ju-yeon the same keyring he got the rest of the staff? But there’s something off with Ju-yeon too. She’s rude to everyone around her from Gun to Sae-yan. Yet they keep bending over backwards to make her happy. Sure, when Shin does it, it makes sense since she has been there for him. But with the rest, it doesn’t work. And fine, we are getting a hang of her personality – she is the grumpy sunshine protector but her sunshine isn’t Gun, it has been Shin so far. This will lead to a rushed and/or convoluted storyline if the writers plan to make Gun and Ju-yeon endgame.

Okay, has Bad-Memory Eraser Episode 5 turned…

Okay, has Bad-Memory Eraser Episode 5 turned us into Shin and Ju-yeon apologists? Hear us out, now that we have the events from their perspectives, we can’t help but feel for them as well. To be fair, the K-drama has already shown us in Episode 1 how one person’s self-pity can lead to misunderstandings. While old Gun is well within his right to feel like his family hates him as they have done nothing to prove him wrong, things aren’t so black or white. We see this with Shin who possibly doesn’t even know that Sae-yan is Gun’s first love. And the car scene that Gun happened upon wasn’t a lover’s rendezvous but a breakup. As for Ju-yeon, she never lied about dating Tae-oh. And if we see from her perspective, she has all the right to distance herself from Gun as he holds her physically numerous times even when she says no.On top of that, she is his doctor and his feelings literally jeopardise her trial to the extent that she is very likely to lose it to her cheating ex. But one thing is for sure, now that Ju-yeon is single, the romance will definitely progress more overtly with her returning Gun’s feelings, Shin falling for her while Sae-yan falls for Gun, leading to the love square we were promised.

Five Stars

Bad-Memory Eraser Episode 3 solidifies the tone of the K-drama as we get a ton of comedy, an undertone of romance and a touch of mental health issues. But if episode 1 has been any indication, the K-drama is not afraid to get heavy when needed to deal with sensitive issues which we are sure will arise once again when Gun learns the truth about everything. But we hope that is way later, at the end of the show. Let the poor guy be happy, the last 2 decades have not been kind to him.As for the characters, Gun is a solid rom-com male lead, Shin is already about to give us second lead syndrome and the parents are annoying but we see glimpses of their humanity.Unfortunately for Ju-yeon, while she is funny at times, she is still quite unlikeable. Sure, we get that she’s supposed to be the typical no-nonsense, blunt and sassy workaholic with a heart of gold. But if the writers are not careful, she will end up leaning more towards the annoyance than the loveable spectrum.

Well, a lot happens in the Bad-Memory Eraser…

Well, a lot happens in the Bad-Memory Eraser Episode 2 recap. To get things straight, the Nevertheless girly is Gun’s first love and also Shin’s current girlfriend. She also happens to be somehow related to Ju-yeon. Well, that’s a whole love square. And Shin seems too suspicious but also a little too worried for the older brother he took for granted. Is it guilt out of neglecting his brother or guilt from pushing Gun in the river? Since we have the mother’s point of view, it seems that Gun’s suicidal tendencies could have been overridden by his anger towards his family. While it was satisfying for viewers to watch him lash out at his mom, it must have been similarly cathartic for him. So, why would he jump? It is also quite strange that it was Shin who found Gun and took him to the hospital. Then there is Ju-yeon whose thinking is a little convoluted – Gun’s pain is linked to his trauma which means no trauma equals no pain. But if he doesn’t find his true love, he will keep digging into his past till his bad memories once again resurface. So, to stop him, she pretends to be his true love. A very messy move, but consider us hooked.

Five Stars

Bad-Memory Eraser Episode 1 starts off on quite a sad note with Gun believing that the whole world is against him and he is all alone. It is quite brutal especially since we don’t realise that the first half of the episode is all from his perspective. It doesn’t help that his parents and the female lead are horrible to him.But once we get that monologue from Ju-yeon to the ethics board we see the truth of it. Sure, Gun’s family is careless but they do worry about him. It also warns us about the dangers of flippantly sending hate as we never know what someone may be going through. It is unfortunate that Ju-yeon’s anger leads to Gun’s drowning. It would also be interesting on how they tackle the first love angle. It would be a little too obvious if she happened to be the same girl. In fact, it would be refreshing if we had a different girl playing the first love, Gun going after her but realising that he actually has feelings for Ju-yeon instead.

Four Stars

With only one episode left in this show, I am surely going to miss Serendipity’s Embrace every Monday and Tuesday. While this is a rather short drama, it is upsetting that the makers are rushing to conclude it when the characters have just started to open up.From what we can see in this episode, Mr Sohn and Hye-ji are now dating which means there is going to be trouble at home with Mr Kim trying to set her older daughter up with Mr Sohn.I wonder if we will see a shocking cameo as Hye-ji’s older sister. The flashbacks really make the drama interesting but we can see that Hong-ju too had feelings for Hu-yeong when they were younger.Do-seon could possibly come to see just how much Hu-yeong loves Hong-ju and I hope the couple has a happy ending!

As cute as this episode of Serendipity’s…

As cute as this episode of Serendipity’s Embrace was, it is a bummer that the show only has 2 episodes left. From what we can see in this episode, I find Do-seon’s connection with Hong-ju confusing. It is not clear what she was doing in her car that night if she informed Hu-yeong about their move to the USA via a phone call. Also, why would a parent discuss such an important detail via call? Sus.Meanwhile, the romance between Hye-ji and Mr Sohn has me so upset that we have to wait until next week for the next episode. The two are so cute and clearly in love. I am certain the two will end up together but that makes me very sad for Sang-pil.Given CEO Baek’s fling with CEO Bae, Sang-pil is the only cast member left alone. Maybe he can hook up with Jun-ho, which will surely make this a perfectly balanced romance K-drama

Serendipity’s Embrace is turning into a…

Serendipity’s Embrace is turning into a guilty pleasure every Monday and Tuesday and it is a shame that we only have 3 episodes left with this cute and fluffy rom-com. With the main couple now together, I wonder what will happen once Hong-ju is forced to work with her ex at his house. It is very natural for Hu-yeong to get jealous, considering how Hong-ju is still affected by Jun-ho. Meanwhile, the makers are trying their best to redeem Jun-ho’s character by giving us titbits of information about his emotions when he was walking away from Hong-ju. However, what he did was very insensitive and I don’t think any viewer will empathise with him given the childhood that Hong-ju has had.I wonder what will happen to Mr Sohn and Hye-ji now that he has rejected her? It seems that Mr Sohn does have feelings for Hye-ji but the reason for his refusal could be because he is Hye-ji’s colleague as well as her father’s employee. With 3 episodes remaining in this one, I am so keen on seeing where this romcom goes as Hu-yeong’s mother has returned to South Korea.

The way my jaw dropped as Hu-yeong kissed…

The way my jaw dropped as Hu-yeong kissed Hong-ju without a warning! I hope we see a full version of this kiss in the upcoming episode but to think that we have to wait for 6 whole days before that is so unfair. On the other hand, using the story about Jun-ho’s panic attacks and financial struggle is the makers’ copout to get viewers to empathise with him.It would have been much easier for Jun-ho to communicate with Hong-ju instead of the whole facade of abandoning her at the airport without her knowing what she had done to hurt Jun-ho. I understand Hong-ju’s way of pushing people away before they can hurt. She is suffering from severe abandonment issues and it makes her so much more relatable.I wish this show was longer so the makers could delve deeper into these issues that Hong-ju suffers from. Addressing all her issues well will not be possible in an 8-episode drama. Since we only have 4 more episodes left in this one, I wonder what happens next now that Hu-yeong’s mother has returned to South Korea to take him back home.

Oh wow! This episode was so romantic it made…

Oh wow! This episode was so romantic it made me squeal with joy. Serendipity’s Embrace feels like a perfect rom-com drama at a time when there is a dearth in the genre. It is a shame that the show only has 8 episodes in total and I wish the makers stuck to the 16-episode format because the chemistry between the main leads is extremely palpable. The episode ended with Hu-yeong telling Hong-ju that the frozen food was thawing but everyone watching the show understood what he meant. Hu-yeong is telling Hong-ju that his feelings of love for her have started thawing already and he is falling for her all over again. Chae Jeong-yeop is a treat to the eye and his smile is making my heart flutter. Our ‘Potato Boy’ from Nevertheless has come a long way! Kim So-hyun is perfect as Hong-ju and I am looking forward to the romance between her and Jeong-yeop’s character – Hu-yeong in the episodes to come. Hye-ji does have feelings for Hu-yeong but the bond she shares with Sang-pil is giving enemies to lovers energy and I am seated for them to turn into a side couple as the show progresses. From the first episode itself, this show has me hooked and I cannot wait for the next episode!

Sweet Home Season 2 Episode 8 leaves us with…

Sweet Home Season 2 Episode 8 leaves us with more questions than answers. Chief Ji’s mystery feels childish in front of the Bamseom neohumans. Her husband turned and Hyun-su killed him to save Eun-yu. As for the tunnel thing, her son probably turned too and she feeds him symptomatic people like Seung-wan. She also probably wanted to feed Mrs. Oh to her hungry son. But why did she need Ye-seul to cut the lights? And is there something to Seon-hwa’s pretence and Peter’s shadiness? Chan-young and Ha-ni may show up at the stadium though, to take down Ji’s son and Tak if he loses control. We also get the answer as to why someone as deranged as Ui-myeong doesn’t hurt Yi-kyung when she goes into labour. But this plot twist was possibly not thought of in season 1 which is why he treats her like a stranger at Green Home.It also gives us a small explanation of why their kid is so powerful, she was possibly conceived when Ui-myeong had already started turning. It also seems that Ui-myeong convinced monster Hyun-su who had blue eyes in the mall in episode 1. This is why Hyun-su changed his mind when he came back to his human self after the car crash. But there is one slow buildup we don’t mind – the cocoon monsters. Like Mrs. Im and the Bamseom monsters, they can control their monsterization. This means Eun-hyuk is more or less himself but powerful. They really blindsided us by not adding Eun-hyuk’s actor, Lee Do-hyun to the cast. Does this mean we will also get monster Ji-su in season 3? We don’t see her die either. The Crow Platoon has grown on us too and hope they are not all dead.

Sweet Home Season 2 Episode 7 is possibly…

Sweet Home Season 2 Episode 7 is possibly the best episode yet. All the characters are moving forward, in some kind of dilemma or situation. Ho-sang’s motives are finally revealed while also reinforcing Hyun-su’s faith in humanity when Eun-yu defends him. Though this may throw a wrench in the Ye-seul, Chan-young, Eun-yu, Hyun-su love square.Lim slightly disappoints us as the main antagonist but Tak more than makes up for that as we see him spiralling and giving into his monster self. Doubt he will be a special infectee but we are still rooting for him. And while we thought Seok-chan and Kim were bound to die, it seems to be the other way around. The plot twists and suspense is confusing but not so much that it irks us like in episode 4. It simply sets the stage for the finale which is bound to be complex as it goes about solving all the problems, or at least most of them. Hopefully they don’t leave us hanging till season 3 airs a year later.

Sweet Home Season 2 Episode 6 finally gives…

Sweet Home Season 2 Episode 6 finally gives a glimpse of Hyun-su though we doubt it will be a tearful or sweet reunion. Sorry, Hyun-su but Eun-yu is too busy searching for her brother. It is just unfortunate that Mystery Girl caused her to take a detour. As for poor Mystery Girl, why is Yi-kyung giving her a hard time? If you cannot handle your monster of a daughter, just let her go ma’am!There is a whole lot of conflict among the other secondary characters as well and as we reach the last stretch of the season, we doubt all of them will be solved. What is up with Ji and her secret room? And will Shady Peter’s storyline culminate into anything? Then there’s the military with each of them having different problems. Hope the writers don’t bite off more than what they can chew.

The conflict between Ji and Eun-yu is finally…

The conflict between Ji and Eun-yu is finally revealed in Sweet Home Season 2 Episode 5. But it is still not fully clear as to what’s the problem if Ji knows the truth. Why would she blame Eun-yu then? Also, Peter is extremely shady. He keeps sowing seeds of doubt here and there, though he does help Mrs. Oh by talking to her. He possibly has something going on with Ji-na as well but she doesn’t have much going on for her, so the writers better give her more of a personality. About time we got to see Yi-kyung. Wonder what happened to her and how she has the same ribbon as Eun-yu. And if the Mystery Girl is her kid, how did she grow up so quickly? Also despite being the main protagonist and antagonist, Hyun-su and Ui-myeong are missing for an awfully long time. The human survivors are definitely entertaining with their drama and pettiness, but more and more season 1 favourites are disappearing. Hopefully, we see more of Ji-su and Eun-hyuk as well in the future. It is very likely that the monster that killed Ji’s husband is Eun-hyuk.
