The characters were robust, and flowed back and forth between good and evil very smoothly. There were some epically sad moments that tear you heart out as well as some thoroughly evil moment that tear your hair out!
I recommend this drama for anyone who is looking for a new plot, truly...deeply evil characters, and the idea that hope can change the world. Also recommend it for anyone who loves Kim Sang Ho. His performance was stellar.

One issue I had was that many scenes were so dark I was unable to make out the actors or action. While that is a good trick in some situations, I felt it happened too often in this movie and I wish I could have had a better view of the scene.
I liked the internal struggle the characters went through. It was believable that they would have made the choices they did as a result of their situations. Although you had to kind of accept that the main character was so talented that he could slip in and out of just about any place completely undetected, it was fun seeing an older actor tackle the action and physicality of the role admirably. Take that young boys!
I would probably watch this movie again, although not for a while. I don't feel as if I'd missed anything in the plot, it was easy to follow.
Watch No Tears For The Dead if you like realistic interpretations of grief, a smooth mixture of different ethnic backgrounds that is easy to follow, and older actors who hand down a convincing thug with grace.

The story wasn't original, it's a theme we've seen a million times before, but it's a theme that gets us every time. The characters were complex and slid back and forth between good and evil throughout. The writers came up with characters that you could both hate and feel deep sympathy for.
The casting was interesting for me, since I've never seen any of the actors before with the exception of Chen Bo Zheng. Oh, and Shen Meng Sheng, who cameo'd towards the end of the series. The actors were fresh for me, and I think they did a wonderful job. Tammy Chen was adorkably sweet, and you quickly found yourself wishing she was your best friend. Tony Yang was a complex character who kept you guessing most of the time. Weber Yang did a great performance, making you hate him very quickly.
The music was appropriate for the scenes. There were some really lovely songs in there.
I am likely to rewatch this drama, since it was so special to me.
Overall, I rated it a 9, and highly recommend it. Watch this drama if you love evil characters. If you love deep friendships. If you love a heroine who perpetually sacrifices her own happiness for everyone else's. If you love to cry with your leads, and if you don't care if people see you talking to the screen.

This drama is worth watching, if only for Roy's fabulously fluffy hairdo. He's absolutely adorable. The characters roused your sympathy, although they didn't make my heart hurt like Fated To Love You. I do recommend this drama if you like the predictable rich guy meets and humiliates the poor girl who changes his life. There were some sad twists that kept the drama fresh.
Enjoy.

A note, if you are- like myself- squeamish about vomit...beware the marbles scene.
The actors did a great job portraying their characters, although it is a little hard to swallow that Jung Woo Sung is nerdy in the beginning. Sorry, but look at the guy. He's a beast.
If you like gangster themes, violent fights, underdogs who kick ass and lots and lots of blood...this is the movie for you.

What I liked the most is that you didn't spend every episode saying, "Oh my god, that person is so evil, how can they keep getting away with fill-in-the-blank and no one picks up on it." You know those dramas where the bad guy/girl has such a complex evil plot and everyone is just too blind to see it. Well, here the evil is clearly evil, everyone knows they are evil, and the reason why they keep getting away with it is plausible.
The casting was fun. From (Welcome Home!!!) Yoon Shi Yoon who played the ultimate devoted man to the plucky Kim Sae Ron, the ridiculously lovable Lee Yi Kyung and his perfect partner Do Hee, Evil's Evil Step-Mother Yum Jung Ah and the endearing, emotionally torn Lee Sung Jae....it was fabulous. But the icing on the cake was throwing in some final episode cameos by two of my all time favorites Ahn Kil Kang and Kim Kap Soo. I literally squee'd.
The music was typical OST. Nothing to write home about so I scored it in the middle. And as for rewatch value, also lower because I don't really see myself watching the series again.
Watch this if you don't like historical dramas but want to dip your toe in the water, if you love a good, slow-building bromance story and if you missed Yoon Shi Yoon while he was serving.
