Favorite Japanese Dramas

At this point, this list is by no means comprehensive, but these are some of my favorite Japanese dramas that I've watched. Some descriptions may have spoilers, but I will do my best to both warn about the spoilers and to make them as vague as possible.

Ok, so I don't usually watch any dramas that have the potential to be sad (because I get too into the dramas and the feelings of the characters, so a sad drama can ruin my mood for weeks afterwards), but this drama was incredible. It was based on a novel, so the storyline was amazing. Then, to top it all off, the lead actor, Yamashita Tomohisa, pulled off his role flawlessly. I definitely would recommend this drama to anyone willing to watch.

  • Tonari no Kazoku wa Aoku Mieru

    6. Tonari no Kazoku wa Aoku Mieru

    Japanese Drama - 2018, 10 episodes

I cried so much during this one, but it was because the characters' acting and stories were so moving that I felt attached to them. Definitely recommend watching this one.

  • O Mordomo de Mei-Chan

    7. O Mordomo de Mei-Chan

    Japanese Drama - 2009, 10 episodes

    8.0

This is probably the cheesiest drama that made it onto my favorite dramas list. This one falls pretty much into the category of stereotypical overacted, strangely animated live action Japanese dramas that some people find issue with in watching certain Japanese dramas, but it had quite a few interesting twists that made it fun to watch and a good cast. Therefore, it still landed a spot amongst my favorites.

  • BORDER

    8. BORDER

    Japanese Drama - 2014, 9 episodes

    8.0

This drama had a really interesting concept and was binge-watching material. I watched the whole thing in one day. My only complaint was the ending- but I won't tell you why. XD

  • Erased

    9. Erased

    Japanese Drama - 2017, 12 episodes

    7.5

This drama had an interesting concept that was executed well. It made me want to keep watching. The only slightly annoying part was that I found it pretty easy to figure out who the bad guy was much earlier than it was probably intended for me to. Regardless, it was still a fun watch, and I wanted to see how it ended.
