Zombie Fever: Top Korean Dramas and Movies of the Undead
If I were in a life-or-death zombie apocalypse scenario portrayed in these movies and dramas, I think I'd probably be a mix of the realist and the empathetic one. I'd try to stay grounded in reality, assessing situations logically, but I'd also likely be deeply affected emotionally by the challenges and losses around me. What about you? Do you see yourself as more of a leader, a fighter, or maybe something unexpected?

Students Fight For Their Lives Inside Of A School Overrun By Zombies
The zombie series I just watched is honestly the best ever. It's got such intense effects from the bites—super fast zombies that keep you on edge about survival. The characters are amazing; they fight passionately no matter what, trying everything to survive. It's not just about action; there are deep messages about how we interact and think ahead, not just act rashly on feelings. The friendships are incredible, showing deep love and trust. Family bonds are portrayed beautifully too, unbreakable no matter what. The romantic relationships are touching—Nam-ra and Su-hyeok's love is so sacrificial and supportive. On-jo and Cheong-San, growing up together, have a special, protective love. Every character leaves a big impact; it's changed how I see things and handle challenges. Grateful for this heartfelt, lesson-filled series, especially Gwi-Nam's unexpectedly cool zombie role. Can't stop rewatching it—each character's heart, their actions, and kindness in chaos, all make it unforgettable.

Neighbors In An Apartment Building Band Together During A Zombie Apocalypse
Surprisingly hopeful and heartwarming amidst its monsters and death, Sweet Home focuses more on action and character relationships than its basic survival plot. It poses a crucial question about humanity's essence and explores both its noble and dark sides. While billed as thriller, horror, and psychological, it leans heavily into action with poignant character development. The ensemble cast, led by Cha Hyun Soo, shines with standout performances from empathetic Yoon Ji Su, brave Jung Jae Heon, resourceful Han Du Sik, and level-headed Lee Eun Hyuk. Despite initial reservations about CGI and pacing, the show's emotional depth and genuine stakes captivate, making it a binge-worthy experience, albeit with intense themes like abuse and self-harm. Expect a rollercoaster of emotions and real consequences, but be prepared for its action-oriented focus rather than pure psychological horror.
Note:
- I cried a lot. I got attached to each and every character. I cared for what's going to happen to them. I was curious about their past stories and how they affect their current decisions and actions. The show simply made me engage in whatever was happening on the screen, to the point of me binge watching it for 10 hours and forgetting to eat.

An Immune Woman Investigates The Zombie Outbreak
I had quite high expectations for this drama and it completely is living up to my expectations or even higher. The plot is so interesting and intriguing it is making it hard for me to wait for a whole week. Talking about the characters seabom is literally the best character she's very determined, cool, funny, brave doesn't get swayed by anything love her <3 her actions can be very dangerous at times but she still manages to come out of it. Park Hyung-sik as jung yi hyun is a treat to watch everything about his character is damn attractive him being all chubby and mature looks so attractive I'm drooling ?❤️ can't wait for further episodes. Their chemistry is already off the charts seabom hasn't realized yet that Yi Hyun is madly in love with her and I'm sure she loves him too but she's just not paying attention i just wish these two have a happy ending. The fact that it'll be only 12 episodes long makes me so anxious
Special Note: Han Hyo Joo has always been a phenomenal actress, and her ability to bring depth and authenticity to her roles is unparalleled. As a fan, I'm constantly amazed by her versatility and the way she effortlessly connects with her characters, making them memorable and relatable. Her dedication to her craft shines through in every project, and I can't wait to see what she brings to future roles. She truly deserves all the praise and admiration she receives! ?

A realistic portrayal of teenagers in an apocalypse
Damnnn.. now this is what i call a movie beyond any other. It had a great story all through and the writer always killed one of the important characters In an episode. The sacrifice of Lt Lee, the bravery and improvement of the students after his death, the conflict after the truth on the rigging and walkie talkie and the most beautiful part is the scene were the writer used Yong Su to kill almost everyone depicting total human nature when unwatched (taking us back to what the only survivor from prison said.. that the spheres were here to do clean up of us humans). I was sad but indeed when kimchi reiterated that were they supposed to fight the spheres or was it something else they were suppose to fight (thus supporting my point) i found it interesting that the writer was bringing it all to how we treat one another especially bullying and more. Totally this might just be the best i have watched!

6. Invasão Zumbi
Korean Movie - 2016
Survival, Sacrifice, and Humanity: The Epic Journey
HOW is this type of film exist back in the 2010s this is now considered as one of the best horror and thriller movies ever made. HELL THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER MADE PERIOD. I have never watched a film that can bring so many emotion and like near the end any of you that are like me that are considered as "cry babies" this will make you SOB LIKE JUST HARD RAIN. Incredible cinematography, an all star cast that appeals to so many generations (18+) with phenomenal acting performances, a great script and just a jugular of emotion this is something you can watch and there is something for most people, need a cry BAM, need some scares BAM, need suspense HELLA BAM and so much more. The only thing that holds the movie back is the use of CGI, though when done well it is GREAT, but like most Asian movie that use CGI it looks a lot more fake than usual, however, like most Asian films that use CGI they made up for with amazing performances, scripts and atmosphere. So all and all if you haven't seen this MASTERPIECE then you are really missing out on one of the best film of all time HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!

7. Parasyte: Cinza
Korean Drama - 2024, 6 episodes
Attention Parasyte Fans: 'Parasyte: The Grey' - A Binge-Worthy Treat
For fans of the original 'Parasyte' anime and movies, 'Parasyte: The Grey' is an absolute gem that you can't miss! I just binge-watched all six episodes, and let me tell you, I was hooked right from the start.
Parasyte holds a special place in my heart, particularly the 2014 anime. When I heard about 'Parasyte: The Grey' and the changes to the storyline, I was worried they wouldn't do justice to the original. However, after watching the first episode, my concerns vanished. This series respects the anime's legacy while forging its own path.
Every character is brilliantly written, capturing the essence of the anime. The dynamics between characters, human psyche, and survival instincts are portrayed thoughtfully. While it may not match the anime's boundless imagination, soundtrack, emotions, and extensive runtime, 'Parasyte: The Grey' carves its niche.
The series excels in character development, VFX, fight sequences, thrills, and world-building within its concise runtime. The actors' performances and writing deserve applause for making us deeply care about them. It's a must-watch, especially for anime fans, not to be missed.

8. #Alive
Korean Movie - 2020
A STRAIGHTFORWARD ZOMBIE MOVIE
I found this movie very realistic and relatable especially with the pandemic we are living in now. The loss of family, depression, suicidal thoughts, complete isolation driving one crazy, shortage of food and value of each drop of water, the need for a human connection and the need to survive. The part where Yoo Ah In just tried to drink water spilled on the table after realising that water has run out was an intense moment. There was no unnecessary action and I was glad to see that the characters were not trained fighters like many movies show. Despite it all, the action and horror was impressively portrayed in the movie. Many might expect romance too, but since the movie focused on realism, we know that romance is the last thing on your mind during a virus outbreak that you need to survive. It was just two people trying to survive...absolutely wonderful movie! Would recommend

9. Invasão Zumbi 2: Península
Korean Movie - 2020
Not as good or original as Busan, but still an entertaining zombie action film!Peninsula looks amazing on the big screen (the destroyed city). However, there is a lot of CGI and because of that it sometimes feels like watching a videogame
- The story begins during Train to Busan and makes a time jump of four years.
- There are some English spoken scenes in the movie and frankly they're terrible. I can accept that Asians speak English with an accent, but there are also "English" or "American" characters in it and they act very badly. The interview scene in the beginning - telling us what happened in the last four years - is embarrassing
- Some emotional scenes are really over the top, but I guess that's the Korean way of drama
- There are no actors in Train to Busan in the sequel
- The film only cost about 16 million dollars to make. That's a low budget in the States. World War Z had a budget of 190 million
No, unlike Train to Busan Peninsula doesn't add anything new to the zombie genre. It is however a fun and entertaining ride and the first 20 minutes are awesome. I also liked the ending.

10. Buraco Negro
Korean Drama - 2021, 12 episodes
A Mysterious Hole Omits Smoke That Turns People Into Zombies
Dark Hole" takes a fresh spin on the typical zombie genre by introducing a mysterious and deadly sinkhole. In this series, a massive sinkhole opens up in a city, releasing a strange smoke that turns people into terrifying monsters when inhaled. The story follows a group of survivors who must not only escape the smoke and their now-zombified neighbors but also find a way to shut down the sinkhole to prevent further harm.
What makes "Dark Hole" stand out is its unique concept and execution. While it brings something new to the table, it still includes all the classic zombie elements fans love: intense chase scenes, scientific mysteries, and gruesome zombie characters. In fact, "Dark Hole" takes the zombie genre to the next level, making it even scarier and more dangerous.

11. Desenfreado
Korean Movie - 2018
The movie delivered, but you have to bear with a slow first half.
Rampant truly deserves more recognition. It's underrated despite having an incredible cast and a gripping story. While it follows a typical zombie plot, it's executed with impressive detail and avoids the pitfalls of many other zombie movies with nonsensical endings. Hyun Bin leads the cast with his remarkable acting skills, embodying a bright, witty, yet reliable character. His dedication shines through, keeping viewers engaged and on the edge until the very end. The intensity of the movie keeps you hooked without falling into clichés or making foolish plot decisions. It delivers heartbreaking moments while exploring themes of loyalty and heroism, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre. Pay attention from the start; the first 15 minutes set the stage for a complex but ultimately rewarding experience.

12. Detetive Zumbi
Korean Drama - 2020, 24 episodes
A Newly-Turned Zombie Becomes a Detective to Investigate His Change
This show is a complete comedy from start to finish, and it's absolutely fantastic! Going in with no expectations except for a ludicrous premise, I was pleasantly surprised. It embraces its absurdity wholeheartedly, delivering non-stop laughs through ridiculous situations, slapstick humor, and quirky characters.
Despite the bizarre concept of a self-aware handsome zombie, the drama never takes itself seriously. It's comedy gold, with moments that will have you laughing out loud. The characters, especially the zombie lead and his clever partner, are endearing and well-developed. Even in serious moments, the show maintains its lighthearted tone, which keeps you engaged and entertained.
There are some weak points, like a terribly miscast villain and some loose plot threads, but overall, it's a fun ride with genuine moments of laughter. For a comedy, it hits all the right notes and leaves you wanting more!

13. Uma Odisseia Coreana
Korean Drama - 2017, 20 episodes
Horror, Comedy, Romance in the same time
The TV show is quite unique and the concept is pretty interesting. It has a lot of funny moments and it is really an amazing experience to watch it. The acting is quite good and so is the story. It combines romance, drama, comedy and also horror in the most unexpected way which makes you feel like you are on an emotional roller coaster. It is a very balanced mix and you end up wanting to watch more and more. The characters are very interesting and have the potential to grow. If you want a lot of CGI and a lot of special effects - this is not the show for you. There are some special effects and they are not that awesome, but they are not that important to the story line.

14. The Odd Family: Zombie On Sale
Korean Movie - 2019
A rather adorable little zombie comedy
I absolutely love zombie movies, and adding comedy to the mix just makes it even better! Initially skeptical, I thought this movie might disappoint, but being a fan of the genre, I gave it a shot. The beginning felt awkward, but as the story unfolded, it surprisingly became more enjoyable than I expected. It's a refreshing take on zombie films, offering a unique story that sets it apart from the usual apocalypse survival plots.
The actors did a fantastic job, delivering their roles with skill and making the characters believable. While the music wasn't prominent, the chosen songs suited the movie well.

15. Monstruoso
Korean Drama - 2022, 6 episodes
Monstrous: Unsettling Potential Hindered by Plot Holes and Untapped Lore
like many others, I believe this show could have been significantly better. The central plot had immense potential, especially with the unsettling theme of religious horror. Unfortunately, most of the storylines felt half-baked, including the main one. Giving it just a couple more episodes could have done justice to the story.
My biggest issue was the lack of exploration into the lore. Comparing it to 'Svaha,' which delved deeply into Buddhist themes and lore, 'Monstrous' fell short. While the final act dealt with the possessed Buddha statue, we were left with too many unanswered questions about its origins and the characters' motivations. Plotholes abound, from the mysterious rain to unexplained symbols, leaving much to be desired.
Despite strong performances by the leads, the show's heavy reliance on Buddhism begged for more depth and historical context. Unlike 'Hellbound,' which introduces new supernatural elements gradually, 'Monstrous' missed opportunities to build suspense and enrich the storyline.
I did find the bird scene impressive and suspenseful, reminiscent of what 'Birdemic' should have been. I suspect the show may evolve into an anthology series, akin to the 'Conjuring' franchise, with Ki-Hoon and Soo-Jin facing new horrors each season.
Overall, while I enjoyed the show for its potential and premise, it ultimately lacked the depth and development needed to leave a lasting impression. -
16. A Natureza Selvagem
Korean Movie - 2024
Popcorn Action with Familiar Faces: Entertaining but Predictable
In this post-apocalyptic tale, the story unfolds predictably and lacks depth, serving primarily as a vehicle for entertaining action sequences. Ma Dong Seok reprises his familiar role as the tough fighter and savior, while Lee Hee Joon portrays the mad scientist and Ahn Ji Hye embodies the rogue special forces soldier who teams up with Ma Dong Seok. The plot offers little explanation, focusing instead on action-packed scenes that provide decent entertainment. Ma Dong Seok's character may come off as cliché with his signature one-punch prowess, but his comedic one-liners add some charm. Ahn Ji Hye stands out, showcasing impressive action skills that remind viewers of her previous roles, like in 'Slate'. Her presence adds a refreshing element, especially for fans of women kicking ass on screen. Overall, if you enjoy popcorn flicks with shallow plots, this movie might offer a fun escape for an hour or so, even if it's not something you'll remember long-term.

17. Gangnam
Korean Movie - 2023
what the hell was that....
The Korean zombie movie in question starts promisingly with a chase scene involving the male and female leads fleeing from zombies, but quickly loses its thrill. The storyline devolves into a shallow plot centered around a pretty girl and a handsome boy with a crush on her, lacking any real chemistry. The action scenes, while attempting to be exciting, fall flat with repetitive zombie-kicking and clumsy fighting sequences. The makeup effects are notably poor, with zombies looking more like humans smeared with ketchup, and the addition of vampire teeth feels gimmicky rather than innovative.
In terms of genre, despite attempting horror and comedy, it fails to deliver on both fronts. It's not scary in the least, and the attempts at humor are awkward and ineffective. Ultimately, this movie isn't worth watching, especially for fans of Korean zombie dramas and movies. It adds little to the directors' or actors' resumes and doesn't deserve a chance, much like an ex you'd rather forget.

18. Influenza
Korean Drama - 2025, 8 episodes
Influenza: Love and Survival in the Zombie Apocalypse
"Influenza" is a gripping drama set in Seoul's air defense unit, where soldier Jae Yoon and his girlfriend Yeong Ju, amidst a recent breakup notification, find themselves fighting hordes of zombies. Jae Yoon, who enlisted late at 26, initially struggles with insecurity and relationship issues. However, as he confronts the zombie apocalypse, he grows into a reluctant leader, finding strength in adversity. Meanwhile, Yeong Ju, a rookie navigating societal challenges, embarks on a journey to reunite with Jae Yoon, only to encounter the outbreak herself, evolving into a resilient survivor.
Specail Note :
As a fan of Jisoo from BLACKPINK, it's exciting to see her take on a role in "Influenza," a drama that combines the intensity of a zombie outbreak with personal struggles and growth. Jisoo's portrayal as Yeong Ju, a young woman navigating both a breakup and the chaos of a zombie apocalypse, promises to showcase her versatility beyond her music career. Her character's journey from a vulnerable rookie to a resilient survivor parallels her own evolution as an actress, making her a standout in the genre of Korean zombie dramas. Fans can expect Jisoo to bring depth and authenticity to the role, capturing the emotional and physical challenges faced in such a harrowing scenario. Her presence in the storyline might add an extra layer of interest for viewers, especially those who appreciate her talents on screen.
