Japanese Korean cultural merge

It's a cute start of a rom-com with Japanese and Korean fusion. Foodie nuances made it a warm interaction between the leads & the plot is pretty good too.

Like the legend of the blue sea mermaid, FL can hear inner voices of people but with ML she couldn't understand the language of his thoughts as he's Korean and this is where the show gets interesting.

A beautifully setup office rom-com, story weaved intricately with hints at villian being someone close in 4 episodes so far. Waiting for the rest of the episodes.

Some subtitles are missing when the ML thinks in Korean & FL couldn't understand.

The premise sounded interesting, about someone who possessed the ability to read other people’s inner thoughts. Don’t we all like to be mind readers sometimes, but the reality of that ever happening would be scary for both parties. With this ability, not only would the listener be overwhelmed with unsolicited thoughts (especially if they’re negative), but they wouldn’t have to make an effort to understand the other person better. For the non-listener, their confidentiality would be violated. I believe that some people should be granted privacy, especially if they have no intention of disclosing their true intentions without filtering them first.

In this drama, Motomiya fortunately used this power mainly to communicate with her voiceless, quadriplegic father. She also used this ability to help her business, and she did not use them against others. Also, because of this talent, she gained a better awareness of other people’s sufferings as she tried to assuage their fears. But her reliance on this ability was tested when she encountered Yoon Tae Oh, who thought in another language that she couldn’t understand.

Motomiya tried to interpret Tae Oh’s internal musings, but she shouldn’t have worried though, because Tae Oh was forthright about his feelings. Whatever that was in Tae Oh’s mind, he voiced them and was sincere about it. Yuri doubted this, because in her experience, what one says aloud doesn’t always reflect their innermost thoughts. She developed some trust issues because she couldn’t believe that some people can be actually that pure-hearted and kind.

I loved Tae Oh’s character specifically because of this innocence about him, that he’s open and that he wears his heart on his sleeve. I also loved the interaction between Motomiya and her father, how their bond was so close despite the tragic accident that befell him. Motomiya could not get over her part in her father’s disability, but she kept forgetting that he would have done anything to protect her, and would not blame her for it.

I wasn’t keen on the other characters though. Even the story-line of the second couple was ho-hum for me. The plot, though simple, was not fully explored, as I would have liked it to be. I would have been interested in the fantastical nature of how she came to possess that ability to hear people’s thoughts. Though the drama made some reference, albeit briefly, it wasn’t enough for me. The saving grace of this drama was truly Chae Jong Hyeop’s portrayal of this mild-mannered, happy-go-lucky man who refused to let his chance at love be consigned to fate.

Easy Japanese - drama edition

The number one reason why I watched this show is the simple & clear Japanese language.
Except for the business talk, I almost did not have to rely on the subtitles.
As an intermediate Japanese learner, it was pretty rewarding.

That's actually the only reason.
The story can be summed up into: "They should not be together. Will their love triumph?".
The reason why "they should not be together" is quite silly. It doesn't make sense, even considering the supernatural aspect.

In conclusion, it's a good study tool, but a pretty average drama.

Enjoyable after turning brain off

The drama is one where you turn off your brain and just enjoy what is presentenced on the screen.

Story = A nice story worth watching

Cast= You will love Chae Jong Hyeop as his adorable self. Nikaido Fumi is quite good in her role but it is weird watching her here after seeing her performance in shogun.

Rewatch Value = None , just enjoy it once.

One Time Watch!!!

Act One divine, act two runs out of fuel

I enjoy a little magic as a catalyst, and this manages to apply it in the best way: it shapes the story, but the characters still make decisions that anyone could make. For better and for worse.

That said, I find our heroine to be a bit bland, and the introduction to aspects of her character beyond the magical premise were slow to materialise. Both male love interests are by turns beautiful and charming, which certainly keeps things afloat.

This dropped in two parts on Netflix in my country and my experience of watching was that the first five built up well and the last five could have been a tidy second act but it felt like the action was split between several plot lines, which took the punch out of the eventual resolution. Cute, but not essential viewing.

This quaint Japanese drama is a great surprise hit for me.

Fumi Nikaido as Yuri Motomiya and Chae Jong-Hyeop as Yoon Te-O. This is a May/December pairing.

I believe that Chae Jong-Hyeop did a great job. He was very good when speaking Japanese, but his cadence is a little slower than native speakers. Don’t worry about the origin of this drama, most everyone will adore it.

This is a quaint and cute decompressor Japanese Drama about a girl (Fumi Nikaido as Yuri Motomiya) who can hear what people are voicing in their minds when she looks them in the eye. Her world consist of work and more work, since she is the CEO of her company. She does not have time for a relationship or time to cook. So she orders out constantly. The delivery guy (Chae Jong-Hyeop as Yoon Te-O) who drops off her food on a table by the door is a Korean living in Japan, while going to college. He starts leaving her little notes on what foods to buy and from where. His food choices are a hit for her and a familiar connection evolves. At first, they chat through quaint little notes. Will this Foodie and the Delivery Guy ever meet eye to eye? They do finally. However, she discovers a glitch with her hearing the voices in his mind. The Delivery Guy thinks in Korean. She is Japanese. Therefore, even though she can hear his thoughts, since she does not know Korean she does not understand what he is saying in his mind. You will rush through these episodes. The showcase of all that delicious looking food will make many hungry for Korean food.

Note: Many Japanese actors are tiny. Chae Jong-Hyeop towers above his female co-Star and other cast members. Besides his native tongue of Korean, Chae Jong-Hyeop speaks Japanese and English.

The sweetness of a kdrama pair & slice of life comfort of a jdrama! perfect combo

The ultimate comfort romcom! Yeah yeah, there are inconsistencies in the writing but who cares, when the main attraction, the couple is so cute, unproblematic, comforting, and it gives you all the fuzzy feelings?

Love main girl's obsession with food and her hangry demeanor that Tae Oh loves and cures

The mix of Japanese and Korean is giving us the nest of both worlds, the sweetness of a kdrama along with the quiet comfort of a jdrama.

Really cute, original story in the fairy tale genre. The initial idea is good.

Really cute, original story in the fairy tale genre. The initial idea is good.

10 stars for the Korean actor's acting. Cute couple.

The main actor Chae Jong Hyeop really lifted this series because he is so credible when he expresses the depth of his feelings for the FL. Thanks to his performance, we felt a great romantic intensity. He is spontaneous, very affectionate and his smile is bright.
Well done.
We literally fall under its spell. Plus, he knows how to cook with love. His Korean dishes looked quite appetizing.

I had aslo watched his other series he starred in. Particularly the Korean series ''The Castaway Diva''. A pure musical marvel.
Also a small role (Na-bi's childhood friend cook) in the realistic series ''Nevertheless''.

Here It was also nice to hear a mix of Korean and Japanese languages. This mix of 2 cultures gave a lot of charm to this story.

We are often confused by the acting of Japanese actors and the storyline of Japanese series. I completely understand the criticism.

The FL character behaves too shyly for her age and the position of responsibility she holds.

Additionally, she had a hard time expressing her feelings.

But I think that's not the real personality of this actress.

We feel that she is actually extroverted and not shy, just by looking at the quality of her manicure, her outfits and hairstyles.
A more playful, assertive, more modern attitude of her character would have highlighted her more.

It's a shame.
Because this excess of shyness greatly disturbs some spectators. I admit that it was annoying and even frustrating.

This habit of showing women with little confidence must be specific to Japanese culture. But it is confusing to Western audiences. I don't find this rewarding for these women. Points are often lost because of this.
This deserves a better thought-out second season.
Special mention to the Japanese actor Taishi Nakagawa whom I really like and to the actress Mizuki Yamashita who gave a good performance

The story was beautiful cause of Tae Oh

If they manipulated Tae Oh's character even a little bit it wouldn't be this beautiful.
To be honest when I started the episode I just clicked it cause I saw a Korean actor in a Jdrama so it made me curious but then it didn't took me even 10 minutes I mean the way Tae Oh's character met Yuri I instantly got the vibe like "it is" and I'm sure I'm gonna love it and yeah I was right, cause the further it went, the more interesting it was becaming. The cutest series I have seen in the last few months, really glad about the ending, If I have to make a complain or say something negative about this drama would be
"why they didn't give us some more sweet moments, of Tae Oh and Yuri together"

Omoinotake roubou a cena

Gostei bastante

It was a weird one, but I enjoyed it.

I don’t have much experience with j-dramas, so it might have some impact on my review. As many of you, I started to watch this one because of ML - Chae Jong Hyeop

This guy is always a BIG GREEN FLAG in every drama I watch, and this one is no different.

What is probably the main disadvantage that people will see in this drama?
Absolutely stupid FL! And yes, She is. I think I haven’t seen more stupid one before, ever. BUT! The whole concept of this show is a bit like movies class B for me… So bad that it’s funny! You can especially see that with the second couple plot. It’s bizarre… but, it’s the best part of the show!
So if you like something that’s weird and cringy funny - watch it. If you’re looking for a serious romantic comedy - that’s not for you.

That’s why, it’s not easy to rate this drama: for me it was a real fun, but I know it was not a very good drama… So it really depends on what you like and looking for.

For the fans of Chae Jong Hyeop - you should be satisfied :) He’s a charm as always. And most of the stupid FL behaviours are somehow explained so you can actually enjoy the bond between them

So yes, not for all, but can be a real fun for some of us :)
