A Shoulder to Cry On (2023)

Vale la pena mirarla.

Historia.

-Es una historia que desde el principio me llamó la atención e hizo que quisiera continuar viéndola, lamentablemente creo que no se aprovechó lo suficiente.
-Me hubiese gustado que profundizaran más en el pasado de DaYeol. Por qué tenía miedo de dejar el tiro con arco, por qué era TAN importante para él y por qué de un momento a otro terminó dejándolo después de llevar años solamente centrado en eso.
-También me hubiese gustado saber cómo fue exactamente que TaeHyun empezó a vivir solo, y más adelante cómo terminó su ''amistad'' con el chico que molestaba a DaYeol... lo que me lleva al siguiente punto;
- ¿Por qué el amigo de TaeHyun odia tanto a DaYeol? Es un problema que nunca se resuelve ni se explica, sin razón aparente lo odia y molesta toda la serie, y jamás se resuelve el conflicto lo cual es confuso.

El episodio final se sintió extraño, un tanto inconcluso. ¿Cómo se declaró TaeHyun? ¿Cómo reaccionó DaYeol? ¿Reacción de sus amigos? ¿Por qué DaYeol eligió ser policia? Nunca hubo indicios de que fuera algo que le gustara, igual que la carrera de TaeHyun.
También hubiese sido bonito que se dieran un beso, pero únicamente lo acepto porque al menos en los últimos momentos pudieron decirse mutuamente que se gustaban, en la cara y felices.

El que expliquen tan poquito en poco tiempo también juega en contra. El día que hagan series BL coreanas que duren la misma cantidad de tiempo que las series heterosexuales u otros BL de diferentes países, se solucionarían muchas cosas.
No entiendo por qué empeñarse en hacer series de 10-25min y pocos capítulos cuando se pueden desarrollar de mejor manera durando 45-60min y los clásicos 12-16 episodios.

Actores.

Creo que fue una buena elección. El hecho de que YeChan y JaeHan pertenezcan al mismo grupo y sean amigos en la vida real hace que conecte más con los personajes y sus sentimientos.
Tal vez hubiese sido diferente sin conocerlos, pero afortunadamente sentí cada una de las emociones que ambos transmitían. Me hicieron sentir feliz y triste a la vez, lo cual aprecio muchísimo.
Los dos lo hicieron muy bien para ser la primera vez.

¿La volvería a ver?

Probablamente no, creo que es una serie bonita para ver una sola vez y recordarla tal cuál está, sin darle muchas vueltas y simplemente disfrutar del momento.

Aún así quiero que los dos en algún momento hagan alguna serie, ya sea juntos o separados, lograron que me interese y me gustaría verlos trabajando en este ámbito por más tiempo. Mientras tanto a disfrutar de su música en OMEGA X.

Are dramatic beach montages all they can do?

They sort of had me in the beginning, but it gradually got worse as the story progressed. It got boring, and the plot is kinda shit.

This might be a matter of genre and target audience, but I think that the time they spent running at the beach and playing with water, should have been spent developing the characters and their stories on a deeper level.

It would have also been better if they leaned more towards the psychological part of the story, but they rushed it, and even completely brushed it off in some cases, where they could have dug deeper into it.
Jo Taehyun is such an interesting character, with a traumatising past that still haunts him in the present, and yet it feels like his story was cut short. An example is the flower pot scene. They could have made a bigger deal out of the incident, or even dramatized it.
The plot had potential, but a lot of things were simply executed badly in this series.

And would it kill them to show a little skinship? Okay, they spend the final episode going on a trip together, after yet another time skip. And if I’m not mistaken, they are now a couple. So why are they avoiding physical contact, and acting like they despise the thought of touching each other? Is this a matter unfortunate chemistry, or bad directing?

Cinematography was basic and nothing special, and so was the OST. Would not watch it again.
It felt like the creators left a huge stuffed luggage unpacked, and that really bothered me.

More Complex Story Than Realized

This is a more deeply complex story than is initially projected. At first glance, it felt too laid back and gets lost ironically in the shortness of its story. Much ends up being interpretative. There is nothing romantic about this series. It is not a BL in the classic sense of the term. I had an epiphany and suddenly I understood their commitment to each other. The two of them found contentment with each other. They are happy with each other. Since both are complimenting each other and both find solace and a kind of ‘love’ in each other, it is a relationship like no other. Not understood by us and perhaps should not be.

I wanted to really like this series a lot.

Geez, I wanted to really like this series a lot. I kept thinking that the story is developing something, so I waited for something to happen, and it seems like what happens is usually a bridge to another development. Even the ending is a waiting game.
Also, I feel like there were a couple of things that happened that cross the line. Placing something in a drink could be a criminal offense. Even if its soy sauce.
I say I wanted to like this series because of the childhood trauma that Jos Tae experienced. A worthy undertaking for a series to do. I really am going to take issue with the Hickey scene cop-out and the lack of one decent kiss. Kids in high school and college kiss. Even same sex kids. Please don't insult your audience anymore if you (the producers directors etc.) decide to do another BL project.

Empezó mal, terminó meh...

Sinceramente esperé algo mejor de este drama, pasan muchas situaciones que podemos ver en el día a día. Situaciones que realmente necesitan una mejor manera de ser llevados, por ejemplo el bullying del principio me pareció fatal.
Y ni hablar de la parte psicológica!
(No justifiquen tratar feo a las personas por algo que sucedió en el pasado! Vayan al psicólogo por favor!)

El "amigo" de Tae Hyun se me hizo insufrible, realmente no me gustó este personaje para nada, que ser más desagradable!

La relación de los protagonistas no me terminó de gustar, van descubriendo sus sentimientos pero no saben como expresarlos correctamente.

Hasta el final, se puede decir que hay un avance en ellos 2, pero ya es tarde, me gustaron más los últimos 2 episodios que los 5 anteriores.

La duración de los episodios está decente, pocos bl pasan de los 20 minutos. Pero sí se necesitaban más episodios para desarrollar mejor la relación, 10 episodios hubieran estado mejor!

Para ser su primer drama, la actuación está bien.

Had the biggest potential but the ending was amiss!

I really liked this drama for it's characters, backstory of Taehyun, their chemistry, the music! It has that summer discovering love feeling that is so cute and heartwarming. It's just that the ending was such a let down to the point that I felt quite sad for the actors and their characters being wasted like that. The acting was great to me. Even until now, I am still captivated with Taehyun. I became attached to his character and charisma. He was just too precious. Too precious to make his backstory too short! It was such a bummer. His chemistry with the seemingly cold at first, Da Yeol, was so on point it will even make you giggle. Da Yeol's character build up by the way was done well. It was just so disappointing that this drama was so short and rushed towards the end. It could've been a breakthrough BL drama. It has huge potential, just didn't live up to how great the characters were.

However, I would still recommend this for the chemistry of the two main characters. If you are into BL couple dynamics wherein both of them are quite manly, boyish not like other dynamics wherein the other one is obviously the bottom, soft, cute and quite feminine, then give this a go. :D Also please appreciate both actors and my bias taehyun who is so handsome and charming!!!

Fluffy and cute

A shoulder to cry on is definitely a great improvement from the last few failed kbls that has been released.

Before watching the endings, I have been seeing comments about it. To be honest, I prepared myself for the worst but the ending was pretty decent in my opinion. I feel like people tend to equate Thai BLs with Korean BLs, but they aren't the same thing...

Anyhow, A Shoulder To Cry On does have some plot issues that could have been better though I must say, given the lack of budget and such. This drama is pretty substantial in the terms of how they were able to deliver the dialogue, scenery, and etc.

I found the romance to be cute which is still good. It's not steamy like other people have commented but I do want to remind people that you are watching a tv series that is rom-com type and not an erotica.

Still a solid show imo and I will definitely be back on rewatching it!

JaeChan did a great job!

As a ForX and BL fan at the same time, I became very excited when that JaeChan will star in a KBL serie. Ngl, I already lowered my expectation since for sure sweet moments will be lessen because of the fact that they are in the same group. (Already expected as well that there will be no kissing scene, will get shocked if there will be honestly haha)

But tbh, JaeChan delivered! They made me feel such things and their chemistry did work, surprisingly! As one of the oldest and the maknae of Omega X, their chemi really did worked and I rooted for their on-screen couple thing.

Going to the story and the entirety of the serie, its not the best. I feel like if it wasn't rushed to 7 episodes and put I guess 1-2 eps before the ending, people might like this more. I feel like the build up was good but suddenly got low when the story felt so rushed. Nice tackling of some serious issues, but I hope they further let the characs interact more or let their story grow.

The last episode? Ngl, I didn't feel that much sweetness, ITS NOT ENOUGH 😅. I feel like the crew and makers of these show can give us more even if without kissing scene, but yeah. Also it kinda got confusing in the end.

But still, its a good KBL. Sweetness is there, JaeChan worked so well. I liked how Jaehan played Dayeol's naiveness and cuteness and how Yechan played such a complicated charac of Taehyun, for the cast? They did well. (The one who playes WonKyung did a great job, his smile pissed me off big time).

Overall, this is still a good watch. Just dont expect too much. Thats it, peace!

Was cute!

I did genuinely enjoy this show- I thought the plot was decent and I loved the acting! The only issue that genuinely made me kinda iffy on the show was the time skip. It’s just my personal preference but I really do hate when shows do that so when I saw that „2 years later text“ it 100% knocked me from a 8 to a 7.

I decided to make it a 7.5 in the end because even though I did wish they didn’t do a time skip (even did it twice ㅠㅠ) I feel like they they got back together pretty quickly- which also could be said for the opposite argument- why time skip if they are just gonna get right back together? I hope you get what I mean 😅

But yeah it was a cute show- had me crying a few times but also had me questioning why everyone was doing what they were doing at times as well (like when Tae hyun called after he hit his head with the pot like he was dying but it literally was just a scratch???)

Not fluffly but interesting

Ok so I have mixed feelings about this serie,I didn't hate it but I rather wasn't fond of it because of the character of Cho Tae Hyun. He's indeed a complex character but sometimes I also don't really understand the other one, Lee Da Yeol.

I have to admit, overall, the story was well done, I can't forget the behavior of Cho Taehyun at the begining (I hate bullying, in real life and even in fiction) so even if they tried to show us another side of him, it's a bit hard to forgive him on that part.

At the same time, I found it interesting to tackle this issue and to show this character and even their relationship throughout the episodes. It's litterally a serious / psychological (?) drama with a hint of a romantic relationship between Lee Dayeol and Cho Taehyun. Well, I didn't mind the lack of skinship and intimate scene but I also understand why people seem not to like and to feel being toyed / teased.

One thing that I appreciated was kind of the small journey of Lee Dayeol being an archery athelete (as I was interested way before to this kind of sport, I enjoyed these small moments).

The other issue that I have is what's going on with the last 2 episodes, But at the same time, I kind of understand the need of doing this? I'm not that sure, it still left me with mixed feelings. lol

But after all, both of them did a great job at portraying their characters, it was my first time seeing them and I've learnt they are both part of the same group (they are kind of underrated and sadly I only listen to one or two of their songs? But I'm glad, it makes me want to check more of their tracks and activities as artist).

For the OST, I wasn't hyped at the begining although it was nice to listen but after more episodes, it was easy to listen, I started to like it more. I have also learnt that it was one of them or both? who composed and write the lyrics of those songs? Surprisingly talented.
