The family, except for Lin's aunt, doesn't like Pokpong and does everything to undermine and ridicule him, but he stands strong, assuring Lin that they don't bother him. We learn that Tul, Lin's brother-in-law, has feelings for her and is resentful that she didn't choose him to marry. In fact, when making love to his wife, who is her sister, Nat, he thinks of Lin.
