The cast are great too. Although their characters have been used for almost all musical drama that I've watched, all of them was able to perform their roles well.
The music sound great. It created a bit of thump in my heart but just for that moment. I mean it didn't give me the feel of researching their OST.
All in all, compared to heartstrings, you're beautiful, dream high and shut up flower boy band, this drama is lacking. BUT its worth the try :)

!
It's the usual idol lead in a school with sobby troubled teens cliches done to the cringest degree. Not cute. Not entertaining. Not funny. Not romantic. And definitely not a good music themed one. This drama seems to serve as a promotion piece for Yong Jun Hyung.Esta resenha foi útil para você?
As Monstar was the first drama series produced by music channel Mnet, expect a lot of musical interludes and "Let's put on a show!" situations.
If this description has driven you off, don't leave Monstar quite yet. These kids all have broken emotions lurking under their cool or nerdy personas and teasing those true emotions out from the silly high school situations makes this a lovely, sentimental journey. With idols! And Kang Ha Neul as a second lead!
Lead girl Ha Yeon Soo really blossoms as the new girl to school and her soulful acting brought out the (limited) best of idol lead Yong Jun Hyung from Beast. And, have I mentioned Kang Ha Neul? Another actor I'd like to see more of is Moon Yong Suk as the class president and talented pianist Ma Joon Hee.
Music wise - this was the first OST I ever bought and it is great.
Rewatch - well, I watch an episode or two almost every week. It's not complicated, the young cast is quite charming and the music is great. Give it a try!

Story: 10/10 because the characters are interesting, some more than others I have to admit, but this story-line is great.
Acting: 9/10 because I think that the actors/actresses got their roles down well. I think Sun Woo & Na Na have great chemistry! I look forward to their scenes after watching a certain episode(won't spoil who are currently watching it now(just started watching it now)). I think the main leads chemistry was cute.
Music: 10/10 because I'm loving the OST to bits. So many songs that the cast sings is amazing. They can actually sing! Love most of the songs. There are people I've never seen before and I love the actors & actresses & wish to see more of them in the future. Some I've seen before & I think their roles in this are best yet. If you want to know who I've seen before or which cast members I've not seen before let me know on my channel. Also if you want to know what are my favorite songs in this, let me know on my channe too(if you wish).
Sorry of rambling again(IHYV review memories(even if it was today LOL)) XD
Rewatch value: 10/10 because I would love to see Sun Woo & Na Na scenes, the bromance, & the music.
I'll stop writing before I get ahead of myself. This drama will probably be in my top 10 dramas of 2013.

i wish it were around when I was a teen
I loved this so much. Especially the music and the "my Song" scene. I cried so much...because she was me when I was a teen. (at least the outsider part)and when he sings "you who wish for my despair" and what follows....devastating simply devastating
I didn't care for the imagination scenes at the beginning...but they grew on me.
I'm trying to be honest and not let my love of this show affect my rating. but I love it so much. it's hard to judge on artistic merit when your heart says...
i loved most of the music - except ironically the idol parts.
the characters and how they grow. and interact...well except the baddies and the teachers.
highly recommend

But the only two characters I cared about were Kim Na Na (who was a badass) and Park Kyu Dong (who broke my heart on multiple occasions). Eun Ha was probably my least favorite—she served no purpose and many things she did just made zero sense.
I started out actually really liking the main female lead, as she was quirky and weird, very different from the typically k-drama female lead. She sort of gave me Luna Lovegood (from Harry Potter) vibes, but I liked how she stood up for herself as though it came naturally. But her character went a little downhill,: she started not saying anything and letting misunderstandings continue, and overall at some points she was just unbelievably STUPID.
I couldn't get myself to like the male lead either, as he just seemed to get more and more obnoxious and self-centered as the drama went on. I'll admit that he gave us some silly laugh-out-loud moments though, but it wasn't enough. And so I honestly found myself rooting for Seon Woo more, even shipping him with both Se Yi and Na Na.
Even though Seon Woo's character had so much more depth, that didn't bode well either, as they REALLY dragged out the love triangle in this. Every time I thought it was over...it was brought back again, with the exact same reasons. This got super tiring after a while, especially since the plot didn't have much happening anyways.
There was definitely a lot of stuff crammed into the last episode, but still, a lot of things weren't explained or fleshed out. Sometimes one thing would happen in an episode, but then nothing would happen for that sub-plot until MUCH later. I don't think it's too far off to say that the plot was pretty predictable overall.
The OST was also not really my style of music. I think the only song I really enjoyed was the first battle performance, though I will say that the actress for Na Na really had a beautiful voice no matter what song she sang.
