Outstanding comedy performance by the female lead!
I'll be honest, it took me a few passes to even want to give this drama a try...I'm not big on period pieces. I'm SO GLAD I eventually watched this. The female lead is outstanding at playing a man trying to behave like a woman. Her facial expressions and body language make for some really satisfying comedy. The other actors were fine, the male lead was fine, but the female lead is where this show really really shines. She carries the entire drama and I was super impressed by her performance. The storyline itself is pretty good, the comedy is spot-on, but it's not like it's a new or innovative story, so the acting and set really made this show stand out as exceptional. The music selections were also very memorable and they did a great job fitting the music to the activities in the drama. As soon as you hear Bong Hwan's theme song (easy to identify cause it shouts his name several times at the start) you instantly know the Queen is about to get up to some badass mischief. The costumes were gorgeous, everything is bright and colorful and clean which really helped to avoid distractions from the comedy performances.
This drama is in my top10 K-Dramas list for sure! I'd watch it again 100%.

I don't know how this drama didn't get as much hype as I expected
I haven't seen many people talking about this drama and this pissed me off a little bit because of how good it is. I just finished it and I can say this was one of the best dramas I've watched ever. I thought it would only be a comedy drama without much depth, but it was so much more than that, it was so interesting, heartbreaking and funny all at the same time. The cast of this drama is simply amazing, Shin Hyesun was the perfect choice to portrait our beloved Mr. Queen, she did an amazing job and never failed at making me laugh, and at making me love the character each time more and more.
I don't know how to say more this without getting super excited and spoiling the story, so I'll leave my review at that, and I will leave my recommendation to those who came here to decided if they'll either watch it or not.

MAMA! MAMA! Anti-Fan!
Mr Queen made me laugh. Mr Queen made me annoyed with anger, made me feel empathetic. Most of all, Mr Queen made me invested. As soon as we were thrusted in the Joseon environment, just like So-Yong, we were confused about what was around us. We were constantly learning about who the real So-Yong was, who the King was, who and what can we trust, if anyone. There was a lot of drama that was so crucial and nerve-wracking. However the drama is a comedy at heart. How Mr Queen blends the two vastly different tones is near on perfect. Any superlative would do. Tonally, the comedic elements hit hard everyone, even with the antagonists of the drama. There is one episode that is one of the most pivotal regarding the plot development, and its 90% comedy. Laugh out loud comedy. And it only enhanced the storytelling. The comedy is just as important to telling the story, explaining the characters thoughts and emotions as the serious scenes. Shin Hye Sun is the heart of all this.Shin Hye Sun and the Queen is one of the greatest performances you'll see in Television. Her character is easy and yet hard. Gender swapping characters would usually have easy tropes to go through in order to get a laugh. But Shin Hye Sun is a great mix of subtle and over the top. Not only does she have to act more like a traditional woman, she has to act like a Queen as well. To act like a lady, but with class and grace. To act like a lady, but with class and grace. There are so many layers of the character that are needed to come across to please other characters so she can stay in her position. It's quite remarkable how there are many different faces to the characters that she has to transform herself into in every scene. Shin Hye Sun’s character shined brightly not only individually but within any interaction with those around her which in turn made them stand out as well. The King, in particular, comes to mind. The King has many faces. There is a darkness there among the naive, pervy yet innocent act he has adopted. Kim Jung Hyun looked like he had the time of his life when interacting with the bizarre So-Yong, but Kim Jung Hyun delivered when it came to emotionally crippling scenes. The King has many fears and those fears become your fears throughout the drama because of the immense acting on display. The whole cast which is more like an ensemble held up their worth in weight. Bae Jong Ok as Grand Queen Dowager and Kim Tae Woo as Kim Jwa Geun were exceptional in their own right. As were the Palace employees and other friends. Chae Seo Eun, who played So-Yong’s Maid, Hong Yeon, did superbly in her debut role. Compared to those around her, Chae Seo Eun is able to stand out. Surely someone to look for in the future as a talent. The acting is well crafted as well as the writing.
There is a reason Mr Queen is one of the most popular dramas of its time and drew quite high ratings. Mr Queen, to me, is now one of those dramas that you must see. And I believe it'll stand the test of time as well.

A drama you won't regret watching but will regret not watching ?
NO TOUCH!! ( If you know you know:))
.
Finally a drama that was able to snatch the place of my favorite drama and I think it'll stay there for quite some time.
Basically, it was on my watchlist since the release of the trailer but I couldn't watch it at the time of release because I prefer binge watching. Then I didn't watch it for months because I want to keep good things for my bad days and then finally I watched it and I loved it far more than expected. Everything about it was perfect to me.
Storyline was amazing, the cast and the acting was stellar, the music was amazing.
It was filled with humor. Like it can make the viewer cry and laugh at a time. The friendship was soo soo good, the bonds formed was natural.
The best thing was the character development. I hated some characters at first but the way they evolved was so good to watch.
The Queen have my heart. She is a spectrum of acting. The King was so warm and righteous but fun at the same time.
The other characters also did their job perfectly.
The trio of Queen, Court Lady Choi and Hong Yeon is so precious 🥺and also of the King, Prince Yeongpyeong, Byeolgam Hong and Kim Hwan . Royal Chef Man-bok was hilarious. Each and every character did their part perfectly. I wish I could write about all of them.
The villians were quite powerful in acting.
I liked the end. Tbh Instagram spoiled the fun for me since it is full of spoilers but many viewers were not satisfied with the end but it seemed perfect to me.
Overall, I loveddddddd the drama and now it left a void in me.
I'm going to miss it so badly😭😭😭

The Best Kdrama I Have Ever Watched!
I have wanted plenty of Kdramas, but none have pulled me in quite so much as this one. I have a thing for fantasy, romance, and historical pieces, so this fit the bill for me right of the get go.I'd never watched a Kdrama that wasn't fully released, so this was a first. I waited with anticipation for the next updates, and I truly cried during the ending.
Shin Hae Sun is the best actress I have ever watched, and that is not just for a South Korean actress. She is my favorite actress overall. I feel like, without her, this Kdrama would've massively flopped. She is now my queen, and I feel like I've fallen in love. Everything she acts in is impeccable.
The music was really fun here, and you immediately recognize the funny, romantic, and tearful scenes.
The story wasn't that easy to follow regarding the politics, during the first watchthrough. But the second and third time I followed it perfectly.
I spent weeks attempting to get over this Kdrama, therefore, I had to write my very first review. Watch it, it is truly amazing.

Brilliant
I was not expecting for this show to be as great as it is. It has the power struggle story line like most historical dramas do but with a wonderful comedic twist! The writer has a brilliant mind! I have enjoyed every moment of this drama 💗 Thank you 🙏🏼 감사합니다One more episode left! I’m excited and sad at the same time. This is one of those dramas that I wish would just continue.
When I first started watching this show I wasn’t so sure about the cast, however they each played their characters perfectly. Great job everyone, you’ve made so many people happy with this one💞

What a ride!
I find that many dramas have male leads that are jerks in the beginning, and Cheoljong is no exception in that he makes some very bad choices. However, the drama contextualizes those choices in a setting of violence and upheaval that would naturally instill a "dog eat dog" mentality in anyone. There are flashback scenes, but while they are sad, I didn't feel that they were there just to make me feel bad for the jerk male lead and to excuse his behavior. It actually wasn't difficult for me to come around to understanding Cheoljong, which is not something I can say about the male leads in many other dramas. I appreciated that the writers didn't make him unattractive in the beginning in the typical chaebol-arrogant way, but rather by making him seem like an idiot. Most importantly, it was also refreshing to see that his change in thinking is not spurred by "the power of love" but by hearing the powerful truths delivered to him by his would-be victim.I love Kim Jung Hyun and Shin Hye Sun so much!
I was amazed by Shin Hye Sun's ability to embody such different personalities within the single body of Kim So Young. She felt so real in every episode, no matter how ridiculous or outlandish her situation was. While all of the actors in this drama were wonderful, I felt that her performance stole the show. The drama makes her character selfish and lovable. I rooted for her to be better, and I loved watching it happen.
Kim Jung Hyun really took me on a journey with Cheoljong. He plays the fool king so perfectly that I really did not expect him to be the romantic male lead. This was unusual and refreshing for me. Perhaps I missed the tell-tale signs, but it really caught me by surprise to see the gradual change in my feelings towards this character as more of the truth is revealed throughout the drama.
The leads have wonderful chemistry with each other, and it is honestly one of the most believable enemies-to-lovers journeys I have witnessed in K dramas.
The story is gripping, but the drama keeps a good balance between humor and drama. I loved watching all of the main characters vacillate between good and bad, right and wrong. They felt human.

As for the female lead and male lead, they portrayed their roles very well done, they both nailed it.. They acted naturally. 👍🏼
The storyline is also unique, no cliches and I swear you wouldn’t get bored watching each of 20 episodes.
Music, acting, rewatch value, storyline, etc. good job to those directors and screenwriters...
Hoping to watch whatever upcoming roles they are into...
I’ve heard KJH issue, the way he handled it and the way he apologized, he’s forgiven... everyone of us makes mistakes, we all have our own flaws... In other words, we are not perfect individuals.... So let us move on and look forward to more of his shows... He’s an amazing actor in any way.....

If you ever watch "Go Princess, Go! (2015)" , they have pretty much the same plot. Although there were some differences in the storyline, it somewhat still feels the same. But, I must say, I personally prefer Mr. Queen. I liked the execution and the actors were great with their roles. It gives thrill and excitement one episode after another. I remember watching it and waiting for the next episode for a week feels like a decade (LOL) and what makes it worse, the one with the English subs wont be released until the next day the original was aired. This drama does not disappoint. Esta resenha foi útil para você?

Mr.queen is a MUST watch drama!!!
This is one of a kind historical drama. and I should say it's been such along time since I watched such a good historical drama. From the acting to the production to the script , everything is just perfect. 20 episodes and you won't feel time passing by.
Usually dramas that starts with comedy tend to end up not being so hilarious until the end. But Mr.queen managed to maintain the humor along with the suspense and the thrill. The story is light but you will find yourself laughing, cringing and at times even crying. This is a drama that will definitely keep you at the edge of your seat until the very end.
This drama brings out various emotions and mixed feeling and explore an area in historical dramas that were never explore before.
And as always actress Shin Hye Sun did an amazing job and so did the rest of the cast. Plus the OST!!!loooved it!!

I watched it when it was ongoing so that made me realize that I was eagerly waiting for another episode every week. I really love the chemistry of lead actors to the point that I really want them in another drama. That would be treat to watch. The surprising elements were supporting cast that stole the show especially Court Lady Choi whenever she was there in the screen that made me chuckle. And definitely, the OST were quite different from other Korean dramas.
Overall it is a must watch drama at least once and further, it makes us crave more
